About Keith A. Stover

I am a garden designer since childhood and now continue my passions professionally. I little eccentric and off the beaten path, I get along with most people and belief we are all here to help each other and along the way be having a great time.

Keith A. Stover purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Keith A. Stover chose Upper Dimond

This was a unique and speacial peice of property before I purchased it. But since then a lot of love and care has gone into this property and most people would agree. From the cozy little cottage with lots of unique little features to the huge garden. There are dozens of little places to hang out in and just enjoy the surrounding. I think the property which has been well cared for radiates a lot of healing energy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Keith's cottage was the perfect getaway I needed as I was attending a retreat in the area. The grounds were beautiful and very relaxing and you can tell Keith puts a lot of pride in that. The cottage was surprisingly more spacious than I had expected. Keith was very respectful of my time and contacted me in advance if he had a question and he responded promptly to my needs. The location is very close to major highways but felt off the beaten track. And, I especially enjoyed his dog Guinness who at first glance is a large dog but was so sweet and friendly.

Peace and Quiet in the Middle of the Hustle and Bustle

  • 5 of 5

It made all the difference after a long day of playing the tourist or visiting friends to be able to come "home" and relax surrounded by a beautiful garden oasis. It was comforting to wake up in the morning to the peace and quiet of the cozy cottage and be able to start the day with a fresh pot of coffee and a relaxing breakfast. Such a huge difference from the experience of staying in a cookie cutter hotel where you have to get completely ready for the day and then leave your room to get decent coffee and your breakfast and then come back at the end of the day, having to a decide where to have dinner with the mob of other travelers.

Keith never disturbed our privacy, but was just a stone's throw away if we had questions. The cottage had everything we needed to prepare meals and have a great night's sleep. The location was perfect for a trip to San Francisco to visit Alcatraz, a drive up the coast to Bodega Bay to whale watch or for wine tasting in Healdsville.

My wife and I highly recommend staying at this property and will do so again when our travels bring us to this area.

Owner's Response: Hi Kent, Thanks for the great review - I appreciate you taking the time to write one. You your wife were great guests and left the cottage in perfect shape. I am glad the cottage and grounds were a good place to unwind after a long day of being a "tourist". Needless to say your welcome back anytime. Kind regards, Keith

Wonderful oasis convenient to Oakland and San Francsico

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful cottage! We also liked meeting Keith, who was friendly and helpful! The cottage is well supplied and nicely decorated. The grounds make this place a real treat! There is a lovely deck and a little area with table and chairs higher in the garden. There are trees, plants, edible goodies and a creek! The birds are plentiful. The sun shines beautifully on the deck and cottage. There is good access to highways, 13 and 580. We look forward to staying here again!

Peaceful, but not in the best neighborhood.

  • 3 of 5

The property is in a quiet spot but not in the greatest of neighborhoods.

Keith was a gracious host who had fresh cut flowers and lemons from the lemon tree available for us. My wife and I just found it a little odd that Keith stayed on the property in a little shed.

There is one bathroom that is quite small, but the kitchen is well equipped (no dishwasher though). The beds were comfortable, although the carpeting and area rugs are a little stained.

We also found it quite time consuming to make our way into San Francisco from this property. The traffic is something else.

If you are looking for a quiet spot away from San Francisco and don't mind the drive and the time it takes then this is a nice property to stay.

Owner's Response: Dear Robert and Violet, First I have to admit I was quite surprised when I read your review. I don't remember having any of my guests having such a negative experience, at least none that shared such. However, I am always grateful when a quests shares with me any issues they are having while they are staying here so I can quickly remedy them. As I remember you had trouble connecting to the internet when you first arrived and I got on it right away. What I agree with you about: 1) It is a cottage as advertised and as such most of the rooms, including the bathroom are small but there is still plenty of room to move around, change clothes etc. 2) The carpets in both bedrooms/utility area need to be replaced, though they are cleaned on a regular bases What is not particularly accurate and a bit misleading: 1) I don't live in a shed. I live in a small cottage/house about 60' away from the rental unit and it is mostly out of view with a burier of trees and shrubs. It is small and cozy and has all the amenities of a larger house does, just on a smaller scale with one addition: over looks a small creek that runs year round. Nice to hear the running water to put you to sleep. There are even separate entrances to both dwelling so I often don't even see my guests coming and going, which I think is a good thing since I know most of my guests like their privacy as I do. I am sorry if you were uncomfortable with me living in a small house on the property (it is included in the property description), but there isn't much I can do about that. 2) Not sure what your definition of a good neighborhood or perimeters there of are, but being quiet usually define one. This is mostly a middle to upper middle class neighborhood until you go further down 35th Ave. (over 1/2 mile) before getting on Freeway 580. Maybe you were referring to that area, but I wouldn't consider that part of my neighborhood personally. 3) Getting in and out of San Francisco can be challenging wherever you live in the Bay Area. The fact that I live in between two freeways makes getting around, rather it is San Francisco, North to Napa, East to Contra Costa or South to San Jose much easier. Sounds like you were just on the freeways during the peak travel times or just had a streak of bad travel karma. Nevertheless, sorry your stay wasn't more enjoyable. Sincerely, Keith

Comfortable Oasis

Very comfortable property and great host, with attention to detail. We enjoyed coming back from our trips to San Francisco every day, to the quiet and peaceful respite here. Not recommended for the mobility challenged, but highly recommended for everyone else. You will like it here.

Owner's Response: Hi Victoria, Again, it was a pleasure hosting you and your guests and thanks for your review and feedback. I was glad to hear the major issue regarding mobility with the property was getting in and out of the claw foot bathtub. Coincidently, the guests before you had brought that to my attention and I had purchase a grab bar that arrived during your visit. As I mentioned in my text, I just installed it and hopefully it will help future guests get in and out of the tub a bit more easily. Thanks again, Keith

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enyoyed the flowers, birds and particularly the tomatoes we picked right on the deck. Keith was most hospitable and available. This is truly a lovely natural pocket in Oakland and we hope to come again.

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

From the moment the 3 of us arrived we fell in love with this place. It was so clean and well looked after by the owner Keith who was there to greet us. The garden was full of flowers and dome lovely tomatoes courgettes and the last of the runner beans plus of course freshly picked lemons.

The beds were so comfortable we all slept so well and the kitchen well equipped so we could eat at home, usually on the terrace after a long day in the city. It's easy and cheap to park at one of the Bart. Stations nearby so getting into the city was no problem. We loved it and we're sad to leave so a big thank you to Keith fir letting us share this dreamy house in a lovely part of Oakland. There are some lovely walks closeby if you have time.

This is a small cottage and a relatively quite residential neighborhood. I expect all my guest to be respectful of my neighbors and myself by keeping noise levels to a minimum. That means no loud talking while outside on the deck, absolutely no music outside or loud music with the cottage windows and doors open. Basically enjoy yourself but not at the expense of me or my neighbors. This is not a party house. Any guests that do not abide by this rules will be asked to leave.

Please remove shoes upon entering the cottage.

Thank you
