This is the real deal - an original Chelsea loft with 12 foot ceilings in a former thread factory that has been updated with all modern conveniences while still managing to maintain its original charm. It has brick walls, wooden pillars and beams. Its 1800 square feet, and an additional 500 sq foot roof deck. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and a brand new bathroom. The second bedroom has bunk beds and a recently renovated bathroom. The upstairs loft has the TV (no cable) and a single bed, that can be converted into a double bed. It has an adjoining bathroom with tub (no shower). The kitchen is open plan with a large central island, that also serves as an informal eating area. All stainless steel appliances were installed in the last 3 years, including a subzero fridge. The kitchen opens onto a combined living area and dining area facing north with views of the Empire State Building through large windows. We have a laundry room with washer and dryer. The apartment also have wifi.

Furnishings are streamlined, not cluttered and the apartment is off-white to maximize its lightness.

I am an executive and career transition coach. Originally from Canada, New York City is definitely home now. Having said that, I am definitely a 'downtowner'. My partner and I have lived in this apartment since 2001 and have two sons. I do travel back to Canada frequently to see family and enjoy British Columbia's beauty. I really think of our apartment as an oasis in New York City. Its a light apartment and have tried to maintain that feeling through our colors and furnishings.

Why Antonia Bowring chose Manhattan

We fell in love with this apartment when we saw it. Typical of New York, there was a bidding war....and somehow we were the lucky ones! This is a family home. We are a family of four and its comfortable for us and gives us easy access to all of New York City. We have made various upgrades to the apartment over the years, most recently, the two main bathrooms. We totally renovated our kitchen a few years ago and it is definitely the 'hub' of our lives in our apartment. In the summer, we spend a lot of time on our roof deck which has fabulous views of the rooftops around us and the Empire State Building to the north.

We love Chelsea because of the diversity of our neighborhood, and all the easily accessible amenities. (I personally love how many coffee shops and fitness studios there are in our neighborhood!) At the same time, it feels like a neighborhood and I like the fact that I know other residents and business owners on my block.

What makes this apartment unique

We fell in love with the light feeling of this 2 story loft. We also felt like there aren't many lofts like this left with original brick work, and wooden pillars and beams. The high ceilings are extraordinary. We also adore our roof deck where we plant herbs and flowers in the summer.

Our apartment is terrific for a family that wants to visit NYC, experience downtown life in a historic, comfortable Chelsea loft and be very centrally located to many of NYC's sights and neighborhoods.


Car: not necessary

Chelsea is very centrally located. In Chelsea you find fantastic restaurants, shopping, art galleries, the Highline and great people watching! Our personal favorite is Chelsea Market on 9th Ave and 16th street with its food shopping and fun restaurants. Chelsea is located near Greenwich Village, the Meatpacking District and an easy walk to Soho, the East Village and other neighborhoods. The entire city is easily accessible via the subway and we are located near several major subway lines.

This is a great option for a family that want an 'insider' look at life in downtown New York in a historic loft with lots of character and all the amenities needed to make it very comfortable. And the excellent access to the subway makes it a very convenient location.

Our stay here was absolutely delightful. Antonia was communicative and made sure everything went smoothly.

The apt is beautiful, clean and well situated. My friends and I had an excellent stay and greatly enjoyed the roof top patio.

Great place to stay with a very welcoming owner

This apartment is wonderful. Perfect location, lots of room, incredible kitchen, large living area with lots of windows, clean, comfy, and the owner couldn't have been easier to work with! The elevator makes access to the top floor of the building very easy. Great views, skylights and 3 updated bathrooms. Quick walk to grocery stores, subway, great places to eat. Stay here! You won't regret it!
