Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed a week at Casa Bamboo while my husband taught a painting workshop. The house was beautiful, comfortable, immaculate and perfectly located. Close to the jardin but on a quiet street (and a block away from a lovely morning yoga class!). The manager met us, showed us around, and helped out during the week when we had questions. The housekeeper Isabella was lovely. We had a wonderful stay; Lydia seems to have thought of everything. Even the driver she recommended, Victor Gonzales, was wonderful. I highly recommend this lovely spot and would happily stay there again.

Fantastic House, Excellent Location & Wonderful Host

  • 5 of 5

We have a lovely time in this property. I loved the master bedroom with two walls of windows. I felt like I was sleeping in the tree tops and I often woke to the chirping of the birds in the bamboo (and the occasional distant rooster). I would stay here forever if I could. The photos are excellent, but the feel of the house is truly "zen" with a light and airy environment and cool breezes coming through the windows. The home is immaculate, kitchen supplies, dishes and glassware are top notch as is the linens and towels.

But, even more important is the host. The house was beautifully prepared for our arrival - to a level I have not seen before. Each bathroom had shampoo, soap, toothpaste, body lotion and the kitchen had paper towels, trash bags, napkins and even disinfectant for the fruit/veggies. The bathroom had hair driers, and even a hot air brush. My hair looked great!

The location is good, with a level walk to Centro and a safe and decently lit neighborhood with many convenient shops near by.

We loved it!! Thank you Jonathan (and Olga) for a great stay.

Tranquil and airy but right in the Centro Historico

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this rental to anyone visiting San Miguel. Everything is in walking distance. The house is unassuming from the street, but on the inside the property it is filled with light and very tranquil. It is kept in meticulous condition with a friendly and helpful manager to greet you and ensure your stay is enjoyable.

Very nice house well stocked and maintained

Everything great. This house is well located and priced right. We will use it again and recommend it to friends visiting San Miguel. Only suggestion would be to replace some of the bedroom pillows.

Our happy place in SMA

  • 5 of 5

We felt instantly at home in Casa Zen! A large, modern, bright, comfortable house, well-located for exploring SMA. Now add superlatives to fully appreciate how special this property is! Everything exceeded our expectations! The personable Jonathan (property manager) greeted us to a house blazing with light, vases of flowers, and enough provisions to see us through several days of breakfast and snacks. He was also available throughout our stay to answer questions. Olga, the housekeeper kept the place spotless and took care of our laundry as well. Each bedroom is well placed for privacy, and the roof terrace became a favourite spot for lazy breakfasts, afternoon beer, and evening parties with friends. Appliances are top quality and work well. Heating is excellent in every room. If we ever win the lottery, we plan to buy this place!

Stunning Casa Zen in San Miguel!

  • 5 of 5

Three friends recently spent two weeks in this smashing modern house, hidden behind a wall on a rather busy street in SM. Very well furnished & maintained, with tall glass doors & windows opening onto an interior atrium, plus a nice roof garden with great views! Jonathan, property manager, was exceedingly kind & helpful. Plus the house was a short 10 minute walk from the Jardin & great restaurants & shopping! What's not to like??

Car: not necessary

288km (179 miles) NW of Mexico City; 120km (74 miles) E of Guanajuato; 64km (40 miles) NW of Querétaro

San Miguel de Allende (elevation 1,862m/6,107 ft.) mixes the best aspects of small-town life with the cosmopolitan pleasures of a big city. It is the smallest of the cities covered from this region and perhaps the most relaxed; a wide variety of restaurants, shops, and galleries makes urbanites feel quite at home. Most of the buildings in the central part of the town date from the Colonial Era or the 19th century; the law requires newer buildings to conform to existing architecture, and the town has gone to some lengths to retain its cobblestone streets.

Living in San Miguel is a large community of Americans: some retired, some attending art or language school, and some who have come here to live simply and follow their creative muses -- painting, writing, and sculpting. The center of this community is the public library in the former convent of Santa Ana. It is a good place to find information on San Miguel or just to sit on the patio and read.

A notable aspect of San Migueleña society is the number of festivals it celebrates. In a country that needs only the barest of excuses to hold a fiesta, San Miguel is known far and wide for them. Most of these celebrations are of a religious character and are meant to combine social activity with religious expression. People practice Catholicism with great fervor -- going on religious pilgrimages, attending all-night vigils, ringing church bells at the oddest times throughout the night (something that some visitors admittedly might not find so amusing).

Because of the easy highway route from Mexico City, San Miguel is popular with weekenders from the capital. Arrive early on Friday or make a reservation ahead of time for weekends, especially long weekends. There's also a squeeze on rooms around the Christmas and Easter holidays and around the feast of San Miguel's patron saint, on September 29.
