Located on the peaceful banks of the Frio River with private river access, this spacious cabin sleeps 6 comfortably, and includes all the amenities you'll need for a relaxing getaway.
Come and unwind in the quiet canyon under the Milky Way like you've never seen, and roast marshmallows on the fire pit. If you're looking for more action, head down to Garner State Park for the nightly dance under the stars during the summer.
Great for birders in the spring, those seeking summer fun in the river, leaf watchers in the fall, and snow birds in the winter.
A beautiful destination anytime of year.
My family and I fell in love with this area when we used to come and stay in rental cabins on long weekends along the Frio River. We loved it so much in 2006 we moved to Leakey, from Houston, to escape the rat race and raise our kids somewhere clean and quiet. We love living in the hill country, and Leakey has definitely lived up to our expectations. We are excited we can share the experience with other people looking to rent a quaint cabin on the Frio.
Christy Mensi purchased this cabin in 2007
Our cabin is cozy, but far from rustic. You'll find everything you need to enjoy a weekend or week on the Frio. While it might be a little scary to unplug completely, we think you'll come to appreciate that your cell phone doesn't get reception and there is no WIFI.
The view from the front porch is our favorite. It's a nice place to sit with a steamy cup of coffee early in the morning and watch the deer. It's also a great place to enjoy a beer or glass or wine in the evening, as the deer are passing by again.
We rented this cabin for a weekend trip to Lost Maples State Park, which was beautiful and I highly recommend a visit to the park. Luckily we arrived at the cabin before dark because the GPS did not take us to the right place. The cabin is marked with the house number above the front door, but we failed to see it since it was hard to see from the road. The cabin has a stocked kitchen, a living room, two bedrooms, and two baths. The living room has an uncomfortable futon and a hard wooden rocking chair. It could really use some more comfortable seating. One bedroom has a queen bed which was somewhat comfortable, but the other bedroom with two twin beds in it had really uncomfortable mattress and plastic sheets so you hear the other person's every move if you sleep in this room. The title "Riverfront Cabin on the Frio" is very misleading because what it doesn't say in the ad is that you have to traverse down the steep driveway, cross the road, and walk about 100 feet in brush to get to the river. They claimed there was a mowed path, but we never found it. When you look at the picture subtitled "View from front porch" know that you are seeing the road you have to cross and then go through the brush that's pictured in order to get to the river. The fact that you can't see the river in the picture will give you an indication of how "riverfront" this cabin is. It was clean and the outside fire pit area was great. The stars were AMAZING. The town of Leakey was quaint and the ranch roads were curvy and fun.
Very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful scenery and house is very welcoming and clean. Our only concern was that we didn't have the access to the river we were expecting. It is across the road and we had to walk through tall brush to get to the river and then it was difficult to actually get in the river, but we found other access not too far away so everything worked out good. All in all it was a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Everyone (including our teens) really enjoyed our stay at this property. It fit our needs perfectly and the location on the river was exactly what we were looking for. It isn't easy making everyone in a family of 5 happy but this property did the trick! No cell service for either AT&T or Sprint...but that didn't bother any of us in the least!
We had a great time at the cabin. It was quiet and relaxing. The cabin had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting in the river in front of the cabin just listening to the water. If you get to the first river crossing on rock springs road you have gone too far! We loved seeing all the stars out. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.
The cabin was as shown in the pictures. It was very clean and everything was working order. We got just what we were looking for. Great private, secluded location with a short drive to town and tubing. We would rent or recommend this property again. The owners were very helpful with any questions we had. There were no issues with anything so, we did not have to contact them after check in.
We had a great weekend in this cute, somewhat secluded cabin. Everything we needed was there and ready for us. Privately owned (shallow) river access is a short walk across the road, whereas river access for floating is a 15-30 minute drive to town (Leakey or Concan). The owner is quick to respond to emails and helpful with suggestions and tips :)
