Guestbook comments from the manager

“Omar and Mabel are extremely friendly, gracious hosts and have created a terrific upstairs apartment. The apartment is sunny, comfortable and quiet with plenty of privacy. I am a author and did my daily writing work there. It was a peaceful place to live and work. The neighborhood is beautiful. It's directly across from the Museum of Anthropology, two doors down from a small cafe, 1 block from a lunch counter and 2 blocks from Plaza Museo with all the groceries you will need (and a coffee shop). In my opinion the area is very safe. I walked the neighborhood alone at night with no problems. (It's also walking distance from the park Macuiltepetl, the number one site I'd recommend visiting. A taxi to or from the downtown Centro is 25 pesos and the ride is only 10 minutes.) Xalapa is one of my favorite places, and Omar and Mabel made me feel truly at home. We had coffee at their house one night and they made it clear that I could count on them for anything. They are fun to talk to and Omar takes great photographs. They were also very patient with my Spanish and I look forward to staying here again in the future. ”

“Thank you so much! Everything was great :)”

Secluded, Quiet Apartment In A Great Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The upstairs, well-maintained apartment behind locked gate is situated in a great neighborhood. Restaurants, bank, shopping mall, movie theater, coffee shops, anthropology museum are all in easy walking distance. Buses to Jilotepec and Naolinco are available on nearby avenue. Buses can also take you to Centro and other places throughout the city. Taxis are also plentiful. A huge Sunday market (several city blocks long) is within four blocks and is a must see. The hosts ,Mabel and Omar, are gracious, warm people who speak English and know the city well. They are an excellent resource. We would highly recommend this property to anyone with a stay in Xalapa. Our was a most pleasant experience.

Nice apartment for an stay in Xalapa!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great and the owners - who lived downstairs - were always a help! The apartment was quite complete, although it would have been helpful to have a few cooking essentials, like oil, or sugar. There was only salt... We left some sugar, but mostly ate lunch and dinner out. We were there at a (historically low) cold stretch and that was tough - like virtually all of Mexico - there was no indoor heating. However it was warm by afternoon and better after the first day.

There is a large store about a long block away - a large supermarket (food) - and department store. Very handy! The apartment is right across the street from the Museo. It typically cost us about 30 pesos ($2 US) to take a taxi downtown, and the bus was cheaper. Xalapa is a bustling city, with plenty going on, although we found the air a bit too polluted for a longer stay. The Casa Museo though was all we had expected and I would recommend it with out limitations. As I mentioned , the landlords were downstairs, they spoke English fluently and were very helpful and friendly.

A great stay in beautiful Xalapa

  • 5 of 5

I would HIGHLY recommend Casa Museo! The place was spotless when I arrived, and well stocked. The area is generally quiet, and I felt very safe and secure there; I would leave the door open all day while out on the town! The owners are wonderful people that live nearby, and are very solicitous and available for any question about food, shopping, attractions, etc. They even arranged for some Spanish lessons for me. Great location, with the amazing museum of anthropology/gardens/park right across the street, easy access to shopping nearby and to taxis to get you downtown. There's a great vegan restaurant within an easy walk. I would book again without looking further!
