About Denis and/or Michele Dale
Like many travelers seeking some sun during the cold winter months, Sean, Denis & Michele found Little Bay and fell in love with the friendliness and wonderful spirit of the community. On one of those late evenings having “wouldn’t it be nice conversations ” we partnered with our friends, making an investment in our future in this remote fishing village. Away from the bustling tourist areas and far from the cold northern winters we founded Tansobak Cottage and have been nurturing the one acre seaside cottage and landscape with buildings and gardens since 1998. It is still our home away from home and those who come to enjoy our place of peace feel the vibes, it’s just sweet and carefree. Guests are cared for and our staff have been with us from the beginning and have become family to us.

Why Denis and/or Michele Dale chose Little Bay
Little Bay is a small and friendly fishing village that has been relatively undeveloped with other than small cottages, local restaurants and shops. It sits in a remote location 12 miles southeast and away from the vacationing crowds of Negril. Our guests have found that while going in to Negril for the beach, food, music and other attractions is great, they are so happy to return from the hustle and bustle of the crowds to the peace and tranquil seaside hammocks and saltwater pool at Tansobak Cottage. Visiting the local shops, the all age school, meeting the locals over domino games in the small thatch, bamboo or wood clad bars or at the beach for volleyball or an evening soccer game is a common pastime for guests. Little Bay visitors really get to know the culture and lifestyle of the local fisherman and farmer Jamaicans. Artists have come to Little Bay and left their mark of artistry on the sides of the shops over the many years and photographers and artists find the Little Bay area remarkable in inspiring subjects to render in their own unique styles. Little Bay is the location for one of Bob Marley's island getaway homes and the local swimming hole is still located next to that property though only fragments of Marley's original dwelling remain. Locals can tell wonderful stories of Bob's time in the Little Bay area and the history of the area is rich with interesting details, just ask anyone here, they would enjoy talking to you and swapping stories. While Tansobak Seaside Cottage offers simple room rates we recommend the wonderful meal packages. The food is prepared Jamaica style just for our guests by our local cook who, if we can brag just a bit, is one of the best in the area. The variety and selection of seasonal island fruits and meats, fish, lobster, rice with coconut, pumpkin n' peas is ample for any appetite if you choose this option.
What makes this Cottage unique
Little Bay itself is a friendly Jamaican community that loves visitors. The Tansobak Seaside Cottage is in a private location on the sparkling blue Caribbean that is relaxed and away from tourist crowds and the hustle and bustle of the resort areas. Our present staff have served our guests for over 15 years and enjoy making sure your getaway is enjoyable and relaxing.

Amazing property, staff, and culturale experience
Very unique experience. The property is in Little Bay which is not a tourist town, and we enjoyed experiencing a bit of genuine Jamaica. The locals were all very friendly. The property is awesome, when it is calm you can jump off the cliff into ocean. What made the trip is the Tansobak staff... We had Annette and Sophie cook for us (costs extra), and I don't think I'll ever eat as good on another vacation. Awesome to eat authentic food and not the typical resort/restaurant deal. Richie took us around to lots of cool local spots (our favorite was the blue hole, a 25 food jump into a natural mineral spring) and on a boat trip. Courtney drove us on days that we did excursions. The experience would not have been nearly the same without them. We also spent a day in Negril, and while the beach was beautiful and we enjoyed the day, we were glad we weren't staying there (busy, touristy, lots of people trying hard to sell you things). Overall I would say that if you are looking for a more authentic, less touristy/convenient experience, this is it.
Our family of four with two adult children had a delightful stay at Tansobak Cottage. Our kids were in heaven with the charm of it all. If you want a real Jamaica feel this is the place for you. Very casual, old fashioned interiors, no real kitchen but what a wonderful cook who makes fine Jamaican meals at a separate but reasonable price! Fresh flowers from the property were placed on the tablecloth at every meal. Though the cottage is not fancy it really has everything essential you could want and by the time we left we were so thoroughly relaxed from the beautiful climate, the wonderful salt water pool, the view of the ocean and sunrises as well as sunsets every day and the fine meals and lovely company of the charming staff that we really wished we'd booked more days. There is a majic to the place.
Each room has very comfortable beds and nice linens and good quiet fans.
The showers are not terribly warm and come out too harsh but are clean.
This house, while on the ocean is nestled in closely to other places owned by Jamaicans. One side is quiet and the other likes to party. We were told this is really only a problem at Christmas and of course if you are late night people this may not be a problem at all.
There was also a dog next door which barked fairly constantly but we were told that it was highly unusual as they had brought a dog in to breed to their own dog. Just make sure to ask about this and I'm sure there will be no problem. You get the real Jamaica also with roosters crowing next door but not a problem unless you're a very light sleeper.
Richie cleans the pool every three days and you might want it done every two as neighbors close by often burn rubbish (everyone does in Jamaica) and it sends large pieces of cane ash everywhere.
The place is on a bit of a cliff so you can climb down a longish ladder to get to an often rough ocean. If you're more adventurous you can safely jump off as my family did.
Though there is not a really nice beach nearby we did go into Negril one day to swim at a beautiful beach.
The thatched roof gazebo right on the water was a wonderful place to spend time. Loved the 3 hammocks.
Tansobak is far from stores so stock up well on any essentials on your way in for lunch or cocktail necessities.
If you have knee problems as I do be aware that the stairs to the two bedrooms (including master) and balcony where we liked to spend time are steep and uneven.
We are so happy your family enjoyed the stay at Tansobak. We have always felt the magic of the area and the relaxed location of the Little Bay community. Your review does point out that a barking dog next door may have been a problem at times. We have spoken with the neighbor and we are assured that this was a temporary issue and now has been taken care of. Also the rubbish ash you pointed out was actually cane ash from the burning of sugar cane fields many miles away which sometimes finds its way to the pool. The pool can be easily skimmed by our staff as needed. Had we known you had knee problems we would have suggested that you stay in the downstairs suite. We are sorry this part of your stay was difficult for you. Our hope is that everyone enjoys their experience at Tansobak. Our staff does work hard to make everyone comfortable as they respond well to guest concerns and needs. Hope to see you back again at Tansobak in the future. Thanks again!
A Real Jamaica experiences
The stay at the Cottage was exactly what my wife and I needed ,comfort, time together and relaxation. The host Richie & his dog Buster gave us a tour of Little bay History, even a dip in Marley's hole. Annette ,her Husband and Sophia provided authentic Jamaican dishes and airport transportation . We really enjoyed the pool and canopy deck on water. Carlos our driver was great hire most recommend. We did a 2 day trip to Kingston via Knutsford express which was adventurous, economical and way to see island and its people. We recommend this place and will return
The property was wonderful, the staff great, it was the best part of the trip
The most beautiful, relaxing and private vacation we've ever taken
Tansobak was an amazing opportunity to experience the real Jamaica, while still enjoying the comfort and amenities we wanted in a vacation. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the views are absolutely unreal and the food is some of the best we've ever eaten. We cannot recommend it enough!
Beautiful Home and Property and Incredible Staff
I had the most amazing vacation at Tansobak! It was the perfect mix of being able to relax and enjoy the seaside while always having plenty of activities to do - biking, running, snorkling, hiking, and just spending time with Annette, Sophie, Richie, and Dwaine. Tansobak has everything you could want in a Jamaican vacation with none of the tourist crowds!
