We had such a wonderful time on San Juan Island. The home was absolutely perfect for my family. The kitchen is well stocked, and everything is quite comfortable with the views being the real winner! Thanks, Karen for your hospitality!!
We have had the privilege of staying at this delightful property twice and hope to return again. It is unsurpassed tranquility, scenery and location with an elegant home. Highly recommended to recharge anyone looking for rest. There is plenty of sightseeing, boating, restaurants, hiking and shopping as well as a much slower pace if desired. It has exceeded our expectations. Picturesque Snug Harbor is only a 5 minute walk featuring renowned Maya Whale watching tours. Looking forward to our next visit!!!
Perfect Christmas retreat
I highly recommend this beautiful home in a perfect setting. We stayed for 5 days, including Christmas, with our adult children. Although I suppose it was off-season, we found the island to be perfect for relaxation, walks and exploring. The location of the property is close to both Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor, although Roche was pretty much closed up this time of year. However, Friday Harbor was bustling with holiday activity.
The house itself has the best equipped kitchen of any VRBO house we've ever stayed in, so we mostly cooked at home, although we did have some excellent meals in town. The view from the deck and the master and downstairs bedrooms is spectacular and ever-changing. The furnishings are impeccable and the house has everything you could need. The downstairs bedroom and living space are perfect so that everyone can have their own space. There is even a ping pong table, which was much-used!
It is a short drive to the Lime Kiln lighthouse where we saw 4 Orcas, an otter and seals. A friendly fox greeted us at the American Camp, also just a short drive away, and my daughter saw a bald eagle from the deck yesterday.
The owner couldn't have been more helpful, from our first contact to our departure. Access to the house is simple and although we had no problems with the house while we were there, I am confident that Karen would have been be very responsive if she were needed. She was flexible with check-in and check-out times, which is very considerate since arrival and departure times depend, to some extent, on the ferry schedule and availability. She even provided the information needed to make ferry reservations.
We recommend this property without reservation and hope to go back.
Where to start with this? I guess I'd have to start with the incredible sunsets you can watch from the back porch, since that was honestly my first impression of the house. The sky ablaze with reds, oranges, and purples, the hazy mountains in Canada just across the water back-lit by the dying rays, it was a pretty incredible first impression (http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn192/CBKeffer/DSC_0469.jpg in case you needed proof), and one we enjoyed over and over again during our stay. Then there are the stars at night, and the deer that congregate near the house, and eat out of the bird feeders, nightly. After that, are the bedrooms; spacious and comfortable while still making you feel immediately at home. During they days you can sit out and watch yachts, sail boats, and kayaks going by in one of the most peaceful and relaxing settings I've ever experienced. In town, things not to miss are dinner at Cynthia's on Friday or Saturday night (http://cynthiasofcourse.com/)....or honestly for any other meal because we ate there a couple of times and never had anything that wasn't absolutely wonderful. For whale watching there is Maya's Legacy, which if you book on Capt. Maya's boat out of Snug harbor is maybe a 5 min walk from the house (and sometimes whales are even view-able from the back porch!). Out side of that stuff, there is a cute little winery on the island, and catching a ferry to Orcas for a day is very easy as well. I can't wait to go back, and hope to make stays here a regular occurrence
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home. It has, by far, one of the nicest views we have ever seen. The house is comfortable, quiet, fully stocked, and in a perfect location. We loved sitting out on the deck and looking out at the bay. The sunsets were amazing! There were so many stars at night, and we even saw shooting stars. We had deer visit us in the evenings, and the hummingbirds were there all day. We love hummingbirds and were thrilled to have 2 feeders in the yard and hummingbird food in the frig when we arrived. We spent 3 days on the island. We took an enjoyable 3 hour kayak trip, walked along the beach, explored Lime Kiln Point State Park, and had 2 nice dining experiences. We came hoping to see orcas, but sadly the orcas left 2 days before our arrival. If we were lucky enough to return, we would gladly stay in this home again.
Parade of Whales
Wow! What a visit! We were there in July and I forgot to write a review at the time. Was just going through pics of trip and was reminded of the tremendous time we had on the San Juan Islands. We were there a full week and were able to wave at the whales from the back deck as they swam by at least once a day on five of the days we were there. Awesome! Incredible sunsets, peaceful mornings and evenings, and not a care in the world. The house is extremely well maintained and very, very comfortable. I can't think of any appliances we wanted that it didn't already have, lots of games to play in down time, great TV reception, and good strong Internet. We had a wonderful time and are trying to figure out when we'll be back. It'll be as soon as possible and it will be at THIS house!
