Indian Lake is a freshwater man-made lake shaped like a horseshoe, located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It is part of the state's Laurel Highlands, an elevated region known for its extraordinary mountain landscapes and hilly terrain. As a private lake, only vacationers, property owners and their guests are permitted to enjoy the innate beauty and varied pastimes that this lake has to offer.
Exciting recreational activities at Indian Lake include tubing, hiking, bird watching, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for bass and brown trout. For extreme thrill seekers, wake boarding, water skiing, and exploring the 3,000-acre ATV Park (conveniently located right next door to Indian Lake) are riveting alternatives.
Indian Lake is well known for being the closest location to the crash site of the infamous Flight 93, one of the planes that was tragically high jacked on 9/11. Just west of the lake lies the Flight 93 National Memorial. This is the only national park in the country designated to honor those who were lost in the attack. Previously a coal mine, the 2,220-acre preserve features a fence decorated with memorabilia and tributes, as well as recorded archives documenting what happened through the eyes of victims' friends and family members.
If your idea of a vacation is finding peace and tranquility, look no further, you've found the right spot. Home is located on a level lot with very nice shoreline and a beautiful view of the lake and lots of shade.
We stayed at this home a few days after Christmas. This is a nice spacious house with plenty of room for a large family. It is an open floor plan which is really nice, with a lot of windows for beautiful lake views. There is a really nice bar/game room downstairs which was a lot of fun. The only negative I really have is that VRBO charges a rather hefty price to book which they never used to do. Since this is not any fault of the ownership, I still give this home a 5 star.
My extended family spent the Thanksgiving Holiday at this property. The home is well equipped, maintained, and sleeps 12 privately. It worked out great for our purposes and it was fun to have the game room and bar downstairs. The surrounding area is beautiful, perfect for morning walks and enjoying nature. The bed size seems to be somewhere between a full and a queen so I do recommend the linen package if you choose this property. It was helpful to get there and have everything made up and ready to go. The owner was very responsive. I never waited more than 24 hours and in most cases, responses were received much sooner. The only reason I gave this property four stars instead of five is because it is a bit dated but it is clean, well maintained, and I would recommend. I am sure it would be especially beautiful and fun in the summer months.
What a restful, fun weekend! My two college roommates and our three families get together every year, with our kids now mostly teens. The downstairs game room was perfect for them (and adults) while the living room view of the lake was fantastic. We especially appreciated the canoe on site to explore the lake. There's plenty to do in nearby Bedford, but next time we plan on bringing bikes and hiking more--there's a trail close for the house. Owner was helpful and easy to work with--and was always fast to respond to email. Thanks so much--we look forward to next year!
My extended family of ten had a great vacation at Indian Lake.
As a child,my family owned a house there and I wanted to rekindle some happy memories.
This house was more than satisfying. Plenty of room, awesome views, great location on the Lake and wonderful overall experience. We were able to rent a beautiful 2015 pontoon boat from the marina..great service there by Brandon and Rodney.
We cooked on the grill two nights and it was superb.
Played pool, air hockey and ping pong several nights .
We were able to build a fire in the fireplace and spend great family time watching a few movies that were left at the house.
Our weather was ideal as we had highs of 72-77 and lows in the upper 50's.
The owner was helpful and attentive when I texted him with a few questions.
We will be back again!!
This home was very cozy and easily accommodated 11 people. The lake and places surrounding the lake were very beautiful and it was very peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend staying here!
Indian Lake borough consists of more than 2000 developed acres of recreational land. It’s a great place for year round living or your mountain vacation hideaway. The Lake is a 5-mile long horseshoe, 750 acres in area with 20 miles of shoreline. There are two golf courses, a Resort Lodge, and a Marina within the borough. Indian Lake is a great lake for boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing during the spring and summer, and a scenic wonderland in the fall and winter.
