Why David chose Algiers

The location and possibilities are unbeatable!!!! The property is located in a friendly, clean neighborhood with a small town feel in the heart of a big city. Its only 1.5 blocks for the Canal Street Ferry which give you easy access to the trolley that will take you all around the city. Staying here in a nice quiet neighborhood with a small town feel while being a short distance to all the action.

A very nice space--perfect for one person, though a bit small for two people.

  • 4 of 5

The apartment itself is quite pleasant, though a bit small for two people. The owners/managers are accommodating and helpful. The immediate surrounding area in Point Algiers is fine, but don't venture too far south or east of this neighborhood. These areas feel distinctly unsafe with a look not unlike Port au Prince, Kingston or Monrovia.

This space is ideal for those of us who are not intimidated by such surroundings.

New York, New York

A cozy, conveniently located home to make your trip extra special.

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our 7 day visit to New Orleans and this was more than perfect for us. The home has everything you would need and is located extremely close to the ferry. The ferry is very consistent, only about a 4 min trip, giving you ample time for some great photo ops, and leaves you within walking distance of the French Quarter. We would highly recommend it to anyone traveling alone or with a loved one to New Orleans. We will definitely try and stay here again on our next trip! Or don't stay here so we can have this place just for us. Haha. ;)

Perfect place in a nice quiet part of town

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed are stay in David's property, we were only a few minutes away from anything we wanted to do. The ferry is a block away and provided perfect reliable transportation to all that New Orleans has to offer. The home was comfortable and had everything we needed. Thanks again for being so accommodating and opening up your home to us.

Very functional stay

  • 4 of 5

It was interesting to stay in Algiers, an area we had never explored. It was very convenient and fun to ride the ferry into New Orleans proper. We didn't have a car but that was no problem. The space was small but efficient for a couple. There was a nice outdoor area. All in all a comfortable spot for a few days.

New, clean, comfortable but a little dark

  • 3 of 5

The studio apartment was great. Everything is new, clean and comfortable. There are some nice touches like lots of towels and a spare set of sheets.

They also provide some lovely toiletry products (although they were missing shampoo and conditioner). David recommended we use Mr. Major as our transportation and we are so glad we did! He was a lovely man who was always on time (or early). We used him to travel to and from the airport and also to take a trip out to one of the plantations. His prices are really reasonable, he's a conscientious driver, and it was a joy to get to know him. The only downside to the studio was that there was only one window over the kitchen sink which looked at the side of the house next door. So the property doesn't get a lot of natural light if that's important to you. A few things that would make it even better: another towel rack in the bathroom, a step stool to reach the high cupboards and high window, and a bedside table with a lamp. There's a great little place for breakfast just a couple blocks away. However not a lot of choice in restaurants for evening in point algiers within walking distance.

Charming and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this place! The house and location are charming and convenient. This studio was bigger than I thought it would be -- just right for a couple. We loved having the convenience of a full kitchen -- though we ate out plenty too (don't overlook the neighborhood eateries -- two gems: Tout de Suite Cafe, and Vine and Dine). Being in New Orleans for 10 days, we also appreciated the convenience of a washer/dryer. The house is newly renovated, and was spotless, with a contact for cleaning service offered if we wanted it. The neighbors are very quiet (some little dogs one house down bark now and then but not excessively and never into the night). The owner checked in with us (via text) to be sure all was going well; It was, and we felt cared for. Though there is a nice outdoor patio space in the back, I found myself exploring the neighborhood as much as I could. The historic homes are absolutely delightful, and the walking/biking path along the river, ferry terminal and shipyard is great for sights and sounds of this amazing working waterfront. We loved taking the ferry back and forth across the river -- it is about 5 min total terminal to terminal, and easy walking distance to the French Quarter, the Convention Center, and trolleys, and busses for more of this great city. On occasion, the ferry did not run (once because of Vice Presidential visit and related security concerns at the terminal across the river and another time due to a storm with tornadoes in the area). No big deal, we were not "grounded" -- busses run back and forth in the event of these situations. AND the owner has a relative he put us in touch with who drove us when we simply preferred a ride -- like to/fro the airport, late at night, or in the pouring rain, and even to the Whitney Plantation - and he was truly a fine gentleman whom we felt privileged to meet and grateful for his advice and generosity. We recommend this place wholeheartedly. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
