The Space

This sunny half-basement suite features hardwood floors, brand new furniture and walls filled with art by local painters and photographers. With two big bedrooms and an open kitchen, it’s the perfect place to travel with friends and family.

Ten minutes after stepping out the door, you can be walking around downtown Vancouver (this includes the time it takes to walk to the SkyTrain station!) but there’s also plenty do within walking distance. The Neighborhood

Overview

Grandview - Woodland got its name because much of the neighborhood is build on a rise and has views across the city and Burrard inlet. Commercial Drive (known locally as “The Drive”) is the heart of this area. Though it used to mainly be Vancouver’s Little Italy, today it’s packed with everything from hip coffee shops and microbreweries to hippie hemp shops and delicious Japanese food. One of the most diverse and colorful neighborhoods in Vancouver!

Getting Around

1 block to easy B-Line transit to the west side. 2 blocks from the SkyTrain station that can take you anywhere in the Vancouver metro area (10-mins from the front door to downtown Vancouver). From there you can take the Seabus to the North Shore mountains and beyond. There’s also free street parking in the area if you’re coming with a car.

Other Things to Note

• One bedroom has a Queen the other has a double bed.

• There is a pullout couch is a double in the living room.

Good property - convenient for downtown

Great 8 night stay in the property. It is in a quiet neighbourhood but very convenient for reaching downtown - a 5-10 minute walk to Commercial Broadway Station and around a 15 minute trip on the Skytrain to reach waterfront station (close to Canada Place). Food shops can be found nearby as well as nice places to eat out.

Property itself was very clean and the 2 bedrooms were handy for us travelling with our 5 year old daughter. It was just what we expected and very reasonably priced - a great base to explore this wonderful city. Erik (the owner) was very accommodating and responded quickly to our queries. Our deposit was paid back promptly and we would recommend this property - great value for families compared with downtown hotels!

Good to stay for few nights

Made the best of the basement. Was nice cool during hot weather. Comfortable clean beds. ( missing curtains make me wake up early) Not big, but everything we needed was there, Kitchen, livingroom, small bathroom,tv, wifi, etc. No balcony, terras. Public transport nearby.

Mixed Experience

This is a totally acceptable two-bedroom apartment in the basement of cute house in a neighborhood that's close to interesting restaurants and public transportation. Our only problem was that the toilet wasn't working when we got there. It was clearly a problem with the flapper, but I was unable to fix it myself. We emailed Erik, who responded promptly, but he said he couldn't get there until the next day (it was around 6:00 p.m., I think) and asked if we could make do until then by simply manually pulling the chain in the tank. We said we could, and it wasn't a big problem, but surprising that this problem wasn't noticed when the bathroom was cleaned prior to our arrival. Erik apologized for the inconvenience.

Again, this wasn't a big problem, but it underscores the kind of issues you may encounter here--or at any VRBO place really--as opposed to a hotel. My risk-averse wife still isn't 100% sold on VRBO, and this didn't help the cause!

Good value for cost

This place met our needs and was clean and as expected from photos. Kitchen had everything at the ready and queen beds were comfortable. Free street parking and a short walk to Commercial and public transportation. Owner was helpful, although communication through email was not as effective as a phone call.

Good house

The house is in good shape. I didn't meet the owner but he is good at getting back to you through emails. Since the house is in the basement, you can hear every step and noise from upstairs. It is in great location. The train station is at just 2 blocks from the house.

No cable if you would like to watch TV at night.

The Neighbourhood

Incredibly convenient for getting around Vancouver. Ten minutes after stepping off the property you could be downtown via the skytrain (including the time it takes to walk to the station). Or take a fifteen minute walk to Main Street and enjoy the trendy, local shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries. Commercial Drive itself is full of culture: cafés, shops, good food and live music. Of course our beautiful mountain landscapes are visible to enjoy from all of these locations and are easy to get to for summer hikes and winter sports! We love East Van!

Getting around

1 blk off Broadway with the quick and easy B-Line transit to take you to the west side, 2 blks from the Skytrain which will take you East or West through the entire metro Vancouver area (including downtown Vancouver). From there you can take the Seabus to the North Shore mountains and beyond.
