Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom 2 Bath home on inland Duck Lake. Your private 100 foot of beach.

Wonderful home to take unforgettable family vacations. We sleep 6 adults comfortably, 2 in private bedrooms with queen beds and a third couple can take the new hide-a-bed in the living room. Four children can sleep in the bunk room, the twin bunks are restricted to a 120 lbs weight limit. Bring your ski boat or kayak, swim, fish or use the 4 person paddle boat to explore the lake. With 100 ft of shoreline, there is plenty of room to spread out and play yard games or have a campfire. Relax on the deck overlooking the lake after you have used the new grill to cook your perfect meal.

We are having a great spring/summer on Duck Lake now that the weather has finally warmed up! Water temperatures in the 70's and it looks like it will be just as nice thru the end of the season. September is also a great month for fishing and other outdoor activities. On the last Sunday of the month thru September is Michigan's largest Antique show with over 400 exhibitors just 15 minutes away.Visit the new Tanger outlet mall in Byron Center just 39 miles away. For you gamblers, Gun Lake Casino is just 34 minutes away. After playing or fishing all day rest easy on all new beds.

Avoid temperature variations and rip currents of large lakes, Duck Lake is swim able all summer long.

Duck Lake is a 123-acre natural lake. Maximum depth is 39 feet. Common Fish in the lake are Bluegill, Large-mouth Bass, Sunfish and Yellow Perch.

We see Ducks, Geese, Mute Swans, Herons, Cranes and Loons to name a few. Sit on deck and watch the boats on lake or walk down the lawn and sit on the shore.

The house was completely remodeled/upgraded in 2015. 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, great Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen Washer & Dryer. Home has new windows and has been completely painted inside and out. Deck has been upgraded for your viewing pleasure.

Inland Lakes are typically warmer than Lake Michigan. Swim all day in Duck Lake but if you want to take in the beaches in South Haven, MI, it is only 22 miles away.

Our home is in country. Swim to the raft, and float in Lake, have a bonfire, play volleyball, bring your kayak, canoe or small boat. Play all day then relax and grill your dinner or visit one of the fine restaurants in the area.

Duck Lake, an inland lake in Michigan. Sand has been added to the shore. A few cattails, waterlilies. Swim-able shoreline with natural vegetation & raft. In 2014 a Bald Eagle was a frequent visitor to the Lake and he has returned for the 2015 season.

Bring your fishing gear as Duck Lake is great fishing lake. Great view from deck if you just want to sit and watch the birds. Run down the hill and jump in the lake and swim all day. Quiet time on the lake begins at 11:00 pm.

Like to golf? Cheshire Hills Golf Course offers 27 holes of challenging golf with typically at least 9 holes open to walk up golfers. If you get the urge, go, it's less than a mile away.

About Brian

We live next door and have enjoyed the lake for years. We enjoy bird watching and love to see the Bald Eagle that came in 2014/5 and is here this year. We grab a float and lounge in the lake on hot days. We worked in South Haven for years and recently bought this home to update and share this beautiful location.

Brian purchased this house in 2013

Why Brian chose Southwest

The view is beautiful. There are trees for shade or enjoy the sun. The home is at the top of the hill and beach is just steps away. Home is located at SW end of Duck Lake with view of homes across lake. There are approximately 80 part-time homes on Duck Lake. Duck Lake's water temperature is generally warmer than Lake Michigan and the wind will not cause a dangerous surf.

What makes this house unique

We have a Dock for a small boat. Pre-approval required to bring a boat. We have a 7 person Pontoon boat available for additional fee pending approval and availability.

Everything we really needed

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice stay here in the middle of August. Caught the tail end of the Blueberry Festival in South Haven. Also had dinner there one evening and watched a fantastic sunset. It’s just 17 miles there, but will take you around 35 minutes since backroads through the blueberry farms are really the only way to go. Not a bad drive into Gobles where you can find a decent grocery store and other things you might need. If you’re a golfer, Cheshire Hills is a fun and scenic track. They have 3 nine-hole courses, so they can get you out quickly. Friday Fish Fry gets good reviews from us.

The cottage is modern and up-to-date. Brian, the owner who has a place right next door, did things right. Comfortable furniture, nice deck and stairs, modern appliances and flat screen TV. Used the gas grill outside to cook some ribs and pulled pork. Plenty of pots and pans for cooking on the stove or in the oven. Note that there is no wireless service at the cottage. Put my teenagers into withdrawal mode, but that was good, too.

Lake is very nice, a little busy on the weekends, but pretty quiet during the week. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed several trips around the lake. Took the 4-person paddle boat out and had a fun time on that. Life jackets are provided in a deck box near the shore.

As noted, you could do a lot of exploring from the cottage. In addition to South Haven, Allegan, Douglas and Saugatuck are not far. If you do go into South Haven, be sure to stop at Sherman’s Dairy Bar and get a cone or two or three…literally some of the best we’ve had anywhere in the US.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our time at this house. Brian and his wife greeted us on the first day and made sure everything was working. The house was obviously recently renovated and it showed. All appliances worked fine. The AC was great. They provided with a canoe and a pedal boat and the kids had a blast going into the lake on them every day. The lake view from the living room was gorgeous. We have rented properties in Michigan MANY times in the last 25 years, this one goes to the top. Thank you Brian.

Clean, Quiet, and Enjoyable for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this Duck Lake property.

The home was very clean, and recently updated. We felt safe and comfortable, with a well appointed kitchen, good appliances, excellent bedding and clean, functional bathrooms. The deck is spacious with sturdy and useful patio furniture and a good grill.

The yard is huge with plenty of room for sport activities, relaxing on the lake and beach, or sitting around the fire ring.

The lake is clean, and there is a nice 4 person paddle boat and platform for use.

This location is somewhat secluded in terms of nearby large towns, but that adds to the charm. It is very quiet with plenty of time to enjoy the chirps of birds in the morning, or watching deer and wild turkeys in the fields across the street.

Our experience with the owners was a very pleasant one. They were very friendly, accommodating and communicated well.

Beautiful lake house!

  • 5 of 5

This newly renovated beach house has been well kept! We have rented through VRBO often and this was by far our favorite spot. There was plenty of space for all of us...two adults and 5 children! The beautiful deck overlooked the lake and had a large out door table for dining. The large beach area was perfect for the children. It had plenty of beach chairs, life jackets, and a dock for the kids to swim out to. Beware, the fish bite! The little ones (3-5 years old) caught bass and perch right off the dock. The neighbors were friendly and they all supplied a wonderful fireworks display on the 4th. The owners were readily available and very accommodating! The location was perfect. Need I say more?

Owner's Response: We are so glad your family had such a great vacation and enjoyed the lake the way we have for many years. The water (70's) and weather temperatures were really perfect, we were glad to see you guys enjoy the paddle boat and raft. Unlike Lake Michigan (which turned over recently and was in the 50's), you can count on Duck Lake to accommodate the kids in summer. Thanks for staying and thanks again for a great dinner! Hope to see you next year!

Comfortable and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and I found this newly renovated lake house very clean and comfortable. It was equipped with everything we needed. We highly recommend this lake front location. There is a hill and staircase from the lake to the house- we welcomed the exercise. Spent most of our time paddle boating, kayaking (used our own kayaks), reading, catching up and enjoying the view. Parking and visitors were limited, but this week was "above and beyond our expectations".

The owners did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and relaxing.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review Jane, glad you had a great time. One of our favorite things to do is take a peaceful kayak ride around the lake, you definitely inspired us with your long rides. We love the location and have been here 16 years, if the weather is perfect like you had, there are all the lake activities and still only about a half hour from South Haven or Kalamazoo. For those that aren't able to use the stairs, there is a driveway that can be taken to the lake (we just had sand delivered to the shore this way). We are moving a bush on the other side of the pole barn to create a couple more places to park. See you again next year.
