About the property

Enjoy a rural setting & jog to beach with gate access to La Selva Hiking Trail

Riviera Beach Cottage sleeps 6 or 7 (an 8th guest could sleep on the couch) comfortably. The house is located in the prestigious Hollywood Riviera, walking distance (less than 1 mile; about 15 minutes' walk) to South Redondo Beach. South Redondo is the destination for surfing, diving, swimming, boogie boarding, biking, paddle boarding.... you name it!

Inside, the house is a comfortable, relaxed retreat with all the amenities needed for a great vacation! Gas BBQ, Outdoor dining, play yard for the kiddos, Widescreen Smart TV with complimentary Netflix for movies, and walkable to the ocean!

Outside, it's the rural life, in the forest, by the beach, complete with a wood chip trail.

This cottage is an organic dwelling. We don't use pesticides. As such, you may be visited by some bugs such as daddy long legs spiders, and gnats during gnat season. They are harmless. For the safety of our guests, we prefer a few bugs to a poisoned environment. If you do see a spider, please don’t scream, as it may scare her.

An incredibly and unique location, a quick walk to the beach and summer fun!

This unit is one of 2 on the property. The second unit, a casita, can be added to your reservation for larger groups. A large yard separates the 2 properties, and offers a playground.

Direct gate access to the La Selva hiking trail!

The house is immersed in nature: There are 2 wild peregrine falcons who have nested and are feeding their fledgling just 3 blocks down the hill, and whale watching and dolphins at the beach just a 15-20 minute walk. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Walk to Redondo Beach's Riviera Village cafes, spas, wine bars, and of course the Ocean!

Direct access to the beautiful hiking trails of Palos Verdes, a beautiful view-filled walk to the beach, in a quiet residential neighborhood.

WIFI!

Smart TV! Netflix is complimentary and may require you to log in with supplied credentials.

Sleeps 7 (or 8 on the couch.)

No Smoking is permitted in either building or in the yard.

This is a quiet, residential neighborhood. No Parties are permitted. Tenants must be quiet after 9:00 pm.

About Suzi

I am originally from a small midwestern town, and have lived in many places around the world but keep returning here to the paradise in the cove....Redondo Beach. I love the diversity of the South Bay, from the diversity of the people, to the diversity of the terrain: tide pools to eucalyptus forests, coastline resorts to working ranches just inland... I love living in the south bay!

Why Suzi chose Los Angeles County

People love this little beach house, close to everything from beach, surfing, hiking, biking, and local spa and shops, to Disneyland to Universal Studios. Located on the hill above Miramar Park (in the Upper Riviera), this basic little house is walkable to the ocean! It's a beautiful haven in the trees, away from bustle of the South Bay. The Upper Riviera has with the feel of the Pacific Northwest, boasting incredible natural features like tide pools, Palos Verdes cliffs and hiking trails, and the beautiful cove of south Redondo Beach. Walk right out the back gate of the property onto a quiet wood chip trail that leads 2 blocks from the ocean. Walk down to the water in just about 15 minutes.

What makes this house unique

Close to ocean, organic, free parking, run/bike/walk to beach, private hot tub, Extremely kid-friendly yard & home, in a forest of eucalyptus trees, on a wood chip trail used for hiking and jogging, close to Trader Joe's, Von's, shopping, Riviera Village spas, cafes, and shops.

Our home is located close to cross streets Calle Mayor and Palos Verdes Blvd. Riviera Village is the local shopping area and a great location for dining... tons of good little food spots there. You really can't go wrong. Also a Trader Joe's, a Von's, and a Smart & Final, several banks, spas, pubs...

For recreation, Olympus Paddle Boards or Tarsan are great sources of recreation for the family; the harbor also offers rental kayaks and paddle boats, and has glass bottom boat tours.

While you are here you should visit Sea Lab in Redondo Beach. It was founded by local residents twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell, lovers of oceanic life and inventors of the wetsuit!

Redondo Beach is an amazing ecological area, featuring the Redondo Canyon, one of the deepest spots of the ocean, and located just off the coast at Redondo Beach, making it a star destination for snorkeling and deep sea diving.

Redondo Beach was also the home of one of the largest inland salt marshes in North America... the current wildlife is a tribute to that feature.

Redondo was also home of the first ever lifeguard training established by George Freeth in 1908 (he singlehandedly saved over 20 stranded Japanese sailors in a ship wreck off the coast of Redondo Beach by swimming out and bringing each person back one by one.)

Currently, and in contrast to northern neighbors Hermosa and Manhattan, Redondo Beach is a family oriented, casual community on the ocean. The Hollywood Riviera section of Redondo is located in a quiet, hilltop forest overlooking the ocean. Whether you enjoy biking, jogging, kite sailing, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, or just lying on the beach and building sand castles, Redondo has it all!

Enjoyed our time.

Great location.

Only issue is the cell reception is very poor.

We had some seasonal ant problem, but didn't bother us.

Owner's Response: Kenn, we always want guests to be comfortable and we take all feedback very seriously. We have addressed the ant issue. Most cell service does work; we apologize that yours did not.

Nice home in my old neighborhood. House even had a Jacuzzi that was nice to sit in after a long day. 2 minute drive to beach. you could walk but the walk up is a little tiring. Close to shops and many places to eat. Hiking trails right behind house. had a great time.

Cute House

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Riviera Beach Cottage in May while visiting our son who lives in the area. There are many things we liked about the cottage. The backyard was delightful as well as the hot tub. The kitchen had all the dishes and utensils we needed. It was wonderful having a washer and dryer as well. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. The WiFi was handy because we could not get cell phone coverage in the house unless we were connected to the WiFi.

Having grown up on waterfront in the Northwest, a beach cottage sounded wonderful, but I think we are a bit spoiled. The cottage was further from the beach than we expected. The trail behind the house took about twelve minutes and was a lovely walk with beautiful shade trees and flowers along the way, but then there was an additional twelve to fifteen minutes to public beach access. It might be a bit far for small children to walk. A walk to the grocery store took thirty minutes one way. I would advise that anyone planning to stay here to have access to a vehicle and a navigational app. The neighborhood is quiet and well kept, but the house was at the top of a hill through a warren of curving streets. After five days, we still got confused getting in and out of the neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Nancy, We enjoyed hosting your group! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at our little beach cottage in the trees. You are right: the walk down to the sand can take anywhere from 12 to 25 minutes. Shopping is a 2 minute drive in either direction. Come back anytime!

Quaint and a good deal

  • 4 of 5

We liked our stay at this home. It was walkable to the beach although a little longer than the 15 minutes as suggested in the ad. It was nice to have 3 bedrooms and much better than staying in a hotel. Also, a better deal than most places around the area and we didn't see too many options for 3 bedrooms at this price.

There was some confusion on the agreement. I believe the agreement that was sent to us and the information on there is different than the owner thought. It had the wrong phone number and didn't have the wifi password or TV information she thought. She kept saying the information is in the agreement but it wasn't. Luckily I had a phone call from her when we booked and was able to find the correct phone number to get the information for check in.

The beds were not comfortable and it didn't seem as though the heater worked so make sure to bring some warmer clothes. The hot tub is a very nice amenity and we used it every night.

We really enjoyed the quiet neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Kristin, Thank you for the feedback... Again, I am so sorry about the trouble and I have triple checked the agreement and it now does have the correct phone number and wifi/smart tv instructions. I am so glad you had a great stay and enjoyed the amazing neighborhood.
