The lodge is peaceful and quiet. It is located 1.5 miles south of Interstate 70 so there is no residual highway or railway noise. It is a private peaceful getaway.
This lodge is set up for groups or families. It is a 2 cabin lodge. One cabin is set up as the bunk house with 2 3/4 bathrooms and a powder room. There are 4 bedrooms and a living room. The other building is the dining hall and kitchen. The lodge tap water supply is not considered potable water for drinking. Most of our guests drink bottled water or bring water containers which can be refilled at the ranch entrance.
The lodge is powered by a hydro-generator. It is off grid, green electricity with a battery bank. The quantity of available electricity is dependent on creek flows.
The lodge is set near Ike creek, a small year round running creek surrounded by aspen groves and tall spruce trees. Wildlife often frequent the creek and brushy hillsides on either side of the canyon walls.
There is access to hiking trail and many onsite activities right from the lodge. Bair Ranch offers onsite horseback riding, ATV adventures, chuckwagon dinners, trap shooting, hunting and wildlife and livestock viewing. We are the closest lodging to the magnificent Hanging Lake. The ranch entrance accesses the Glenwood Canyon Bike trail. If you can do it in the Colorado outdoors in the Summer, we have access to it; breathtaking, beautiful, private peaceful exciting and entertaining. Come experience the Glenwood Canyon and surrounding areas.
The Cabin is off of a well maintained dirt road that can be accessed by almost any vehicle. Colorado summers are typically warm and dry. Should we, however, experience a high volume of rain the road can become slippery and temporarily impassible. Generally within a few hours the road is safe for access.
We are the Bair Family. I am James C. Bair II. My great grand parents purchased the home I now live in in the early 1920s. We have been ranching in the area since the early 1900s.
Bair Ranch is one of the oldest family owned and operated working ranches in Colorado. We are a working sheep ranch running approximately 10,000 mother ewes and their lambs. We are located 12 miles east of Glenwood Springs just minutes from Aspen and Vail. We offer our guests a stay at 5,500 acres of private gated open space in the beautiful Glenwood Canyon.
Jim Bair purchased this cabin in 1924
This is our family home and it has been for 5 generations. We have made our lives here. This land is both rugged and beautiful. It can be a harsh land at times and a lush land at other times. It sustains wildlife and livestock. It has been and is a great place to raise children. The Glenwood Springs area offers so many activities. It is a family oriented small town with big opportunities for recreation and entertainment. We are located 12 miles east of town so for us it is nice to leave town and come home.
You are not just coming to a rental property but an entire ranch property. Not only will you love your lodging accommodations but you our on site activities include horseback riding, ATV adventures, jeep tours, fishing, camping, cabins, hiking, biking, chuckwagon cookouts and BBQs. We can arrange rafting on the Colorado River as well. Even the Glenwood Springs Hot Springs Pool is a short drive and minutes from the ranch.
Our cabins are private, cozy and exclusive. At the ranch you will get an authentic experience, not a commercial campground experience. You will have a private experience, not a public experience. You have room to enjoy the outdoors and share time with other members of your group.
Because we are a private, gated ranch you have all these benefits while still having the opportunity of being near the resort towns of Glenwood Springs, Aspen and Vail. You can go into town and then return to the privacy of your own cabin and grounds area.
Colorado Summers are typically warm and dry. The access road to the cabin is a well maintained dirt road that can be accessed by almost any vehicle. In the event of heavy rain access on the road can be limited.
The Lodge was just what we were looking for. Everyone in our family, 14 of us, enjoyed it so much. Not once did a TV get turned on, the kids and grandkids loved being on the mountain and had great times hiking, riding their bikes or just sitting enjoying the views. Everything was clean, neat, and the kitchen was stocked with every utensil we could ever need. The trip up and down the mountain was an adventure in itself. What a beautiful property! Thank you Bair Family. And thanks to Vaniel for working with our check in schedule. Kathy P.
I want to start off by saying that the property is absolutely gorgeous. It's a really nice place to get off the grid and just spend time with quality people. The owners are very nice and accommodating. After a last minute drop in people, the owners were able to switch things around and let us stay in a smaller cabin on the same property (it's a really, really big property). So, this review is actually for #653312. Plenty of beds and sleeping areas, with lots of outdoor space to stretch out in.
There are two reasons why I can't give this the Excellent rating it deserves. The first one is the fact that during the only full day we stayed at the cabin, someone came in to work on the hydro generator, and turned it off for 3-5 hours (I thought it was 3, but my friends tell me it was more like 5). When I finally went down the hill and got signal (there is no signal at the cabin, but I don't view that as a bad thing), the property manager did not know they were even coming! So, here we were, not knowing our power was going off, or when it would be turned on, wondering how many times 12 people can open the refrigerator before all of our food for the weekend spoils.
The second reason was about payment. The property manager would not take my payment before I got into the cabin over the phone, then when I got to the cabin, it took a lot of coordination to get my credit card to pay for the damn place! It ended up that she had to run up to the cabin on Saturday, to get a card information from me (which ended up not working because my bank replaced my card and didn't tell me), then she had to call me AFTER I got home to get a new card. So, when I had this weekend designed to just relax with my friends, I was worried about power and payment the whole weekend. However, the home is lovely and the owners are friendly.
My family recently had a great family reunion here with over 20 people and absolutely loved it! The two cabins were great and had a tv and some family movies available for the down times. The bathrooms and kitchens were very clean and neat. The beds and couches were very comfortable. The ranch was easy to find with instructions from the renter. The only downside was that the cabin is on a dirt road and it rained that day making it impossible for about half of my group to get up the road. The owners were great and helped them ATV up the road and get to the cabin and then get their cars the next day. Also, there was absolutely no cell service unless we went up the mountain a little more (about a 5 min drive, 15 min walk)--which worked out great once everyone was there. We really had a fantastic time and would love to go back again!
