The property is large nicely located, spacious although we had a scare.

  • 3 of 5

We did start out with a hugeee scare. As soon as we got into the property, we were shocked by how the place was. None of the beds were made and there was spills on the floors. Near the fireplace there were log messes from logs. And everything looks like someone left in a hurry. So we followed instructions and called the housekeeper. Who did not pick up. We called Kristy and she also did not pickup. 2 calls to the house keepers later and 2 calls to Kristy, finally Grace picked up. I asked if she was at the house to clean earlier and she told me she wasn’t scheduled. She said the owner did not tell her to come. She said she will check and call me back. Thankfully after a text to Kristy she finally responded and said that the housekeeper will come. We were so tired from the drive at this point. Kristy graciously offered to pay for our dinner that evening in consolation. And we waited 2-3 hours until the house is finally clean. After the housekeeper left we found out that none of the sofa beds had any bedsheet and all the spare are locked away. A few of the lights went out and we had to replace the ones we were able to find spares for. But the upstairs bathroom was dark without a light above the tub. The bed upstairs was good. Although the bed in the master suite downstairs is broken down. My sister and her husband sank to the middle of the king when sleeping as it looks like the bed is no longer in good condition. But all the other beds are good. Overall the stay was decent, although when you pay quite a bit for a property and cleaning you reallllly hope it has been cleaned. Because at that point after the drive all you want to do is lay down... although luckily we were able to contact the owner and she graciously made an effort to resolve the issue. Both her and the housekeeper are nice. I know scheduling mishaps happens but it really is at the cost of someone’s very needed vacation which is why I really can’t give them a 5.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

I loved the location, the layout of the home and view. If I had to choose something to improve on it would be the stove top, it's electric but I'm guessing because it snows there gas may not be an option. The knobs and Stove top are a bit strange but I used the crockpot and that worked great. There are a few extras that shows me the owners are very thoughtful. The liquid hand soaps are organic, the pillows and bedcovers are I believe down feathers- nice quality, towels are nice and thick and best of all the owner responded quickly to any questions via email. I would definitely try my best to stay here again. Thx Kristie

Our family including my parents stayed at The ironwood Chalet... We loved every minute.. It was gorgeously decorated and very clean.. We had everything we needed and the house is very close to the village. Not to mention great hiking near by. It was spacious and cozy with fireplaces on every floor. Great place for families with kids!

  • 4 of 5

We rented this house with 2 other families; 6 adults and 6 kids. However the layout of the home is very well spread out and there was plenty of room. The homeowners were very thoughtful for having lots of DVDs, games a high chair, a walker, playpen, stroller and lots of other handy items for smaller kids to enjoy. The spa was great and offered a great view. We never used the fireplaces but that would have been fantastic as well.

If you plan to walk please note house sits at the top of the hill so plan on coming back with enough energy to carry kids or bring the stroller!

The kitchen is very large but we found the oven bakes things very quickly and we burned a few items before we got the hang of it. The stove burners were a little funky as well we could only get one of them to work. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glasses, pots and pans.

The location is great for the views but we found walking down to the lake was disappointing because there is not much to do once you are there (we went in March so maybe that was the problem).

The house was clean but it could have been cleaner with dust in a few areas, but hey we have kids so that was not a problem for us!

Overall we had a fantastic time in Big Bear and at the house. We would surely rent it again.

Thanks to the homeowners for offering this great property. The layout is so great for large groups.
