Nice location for some quiet hiking among the giants
Grab some groceries in Porterville before finishing your drive to the cabin. It's a long, slow, windy trip down 190 if you need to go back, and there are limited supplies at the local general stores. It's very close to a newly opened restaurant and general store and about a mile from Camp Nelson, which can supply gas in addition to its tavern and general store. As for hiking, I can't recommend the Camp Nelson trail highly enough. There's also the Bear Creek Ridge Trail (challenging), Coy Flats trail, and Freeman Trail nearby. Dome Rock is worth the drive (maybe 30 minutes) and offers excellent views. Trail of 100 Giants is about a 45 minute drive and has wheelchair accessible, paved trails. The cabin has wifi, which is super handy given none of our party had reception anywhere in the area (2 different carriers).
Peace and Rest
This cabin is in the heart of some beautiful trails with giant sequoias. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the "cabin in the woods". It was one of the most relaxing and peaceful vacations we've had in a very long time. The cabin is clean and comfortable. There is a lovely fireplace to relax by, and many games and movies to chill out with.
Enjoyable place off the beaten path!
We keep coming back to this cabin in the woods! Very comfortable 'home in the woods' that is clean and thoughtfully well appointed. The wrap-around deck is great for morning coffee and a book and and for stargazing at night! Nighttime low ambient light; so the Milky Way was easy to see. We saw several shooting stars! Great location for easy hiking. Just so relaxing - this last vacation was three nights and we wanted to stay longer. We look forward to staying here again!

This place is one of our favorites! Clean, charmingly rustic and tasteful elegance. Home away from home. Easy drive from LA and Ventura areas. Quiet and Peaceful. Close to beautiful Sequoia groves. Trail of 100 Giants is only a beautiful 45 minute drive away on Great Western Divide Highway near Ponderosa. You get to enjoy the beauty and majesty of the incredible Sequoia trees without the typical maddening crowds that frequent Grant Grove, General Sherman tree and the rest of Sequoia National Park. However, If you wish to visit them, they are only a few hours away from this blissful getaway. Nice, easy hiking trails abound. Although there are some smaller stores nearby, be advised to shop for your groceries in Porterville. House has everything else you need (including games and cards). Enjoy the beautiful wrap around deck for nighttime star gazing, and cozy living room with gas fireplace. We'll be back :-)
Beautiful Cabin in the Woods!
This cabin is so clean and nice. It has everything, even a large flat screen (so bring your DVD's). We walked to the stream, BBQ'd, and played horse shoes all day. Lots to see and explore. Great time!
Located in Camp Nelson and nestled in the Sequoia National Forest, this area has wonderful hiking, mountain biking trails, fishing & camping at Belknap Campground with Giant Sequoias everywhere. Only 20 minutes away enjoy high sierra elevations with more hiking, mountain biking & rock climbing in the summer, cross country skiing & snowmobiling in the winter. Attractions and must see places include Dome Rock which overlooks the entire National Forest at an elevation of 7200...a great place to picnic at the end of the day, Trail of 100 Giants for taking in the Giant Sequoias, and countless hiking & biking trails with ample panoramic views, and wildflower viewing.
