About the property

1879 Minimg Camp -The Bonanza- on a mountain top in middle of National forest

First time ever offered to the public! We would like to share with you this breathtaking view and quaint cozy cabin. The Bonanza has views of Harney Peak, The Needles, back side of Mt. Rushmore, Mt Coolidge and Custer State Park. You are in total isolation and only two miles from Custer. Either in the home, on the deck or just on the property, you will not be able to take your eyes off this beautiful view. This truly is a place you will not want to leave. It is rustic, yet elegant! We envision this to be a place to go on your honeymoon, to write a book or a song or just relax. You can take day hikes in any direction and discover the same places Native Americans, General Custer and the settlers discovered.

The Recently remodeled cabin was been done so to keep the rustic feel of an 1880s mining camp and today's modern amenities for your comfort.

The cabin offers a Master bedroom with a queen bed, bathroom has a claw foot tub/shower.

Kitchen/living room has large windows for panoramic view of the Black Hills. The open floor plan of kitchen and living area include a ladder going up to an 18x 13 loft (also with amazing views) with 4 twin beds.

You step out of the living room onto a deck that has r views of the beautiful Black Hills.

The guest cabin has a queen size bed, small refrigerator, table and two chairs, (roll away cot is available upon request). It has a private porch with the same stunning view.

Carzy Horse Memorial is just 20 minutes away and they have a beautiful light show in the evening.

Mt. Rushmore is only 30 minutes away and is a must see! Nice shopping and good ice cream availabel there too!

Hill City is approximately 25 minutes away and has the 1880's Train which goes from there to Keystone. Hill City is known for their German Restaurant, The Alpine Inn, a great place to eat lunch and they have delicious home made desserts!

Keystone which is at the base of Mt.Rushmore, is an old historic minning town, lots of history. In their downtown they have nice shopping and you can watch taffy being made in the Taffy shop.

There is fishing, swimming and boating available at four area lakes: Sylvan, Bismark, Legion and Stockade, these are all within 1-25 miles from the cabin.

Custer State Park is just a few (12) miles down the road. This park is one of the largest State Parks in the United States. It has one of the largest free roaming buffalo herds in the U.S., Big Horm sheep, elk, deer, turkeys and the famous friendly burros can also be seen in the park.

There are two world class caves in the area which offer cave and spelunking tours. Wind Cave National Park is approximately 15 miles away and Jewel Cave National Monument is approximately 12 miles away.

There is a local golf course in Custer, just 5 minutes away! There is also a golf course in Hot Springs which is only a 30 minute drive through Wind Cave National Park (where the buffalo roam and the prairie doge play!)

Historic Deadwood is approximately one hour away and has a wide variety of casinos and entertainment available daily. Mt. Moriah is the resting place of the famous Clamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickock, also in Deadwood.

The home is approximately an hour drive to Sturgis.

This property is on a mile long gravel road with a steep incline, SUV's preferred, please call with any questions.

Due to the terrain steepness, we ask that a liability release be signed upon arrival.

Kitchen is fully stocked, we provide linens, towels and only start up paper products, not enough for your whole stay.

Stackable washer and dryer and laundry tub in laundry room.

Table and chiars on front deck and gas gril.

Check in time is 4:00 pm and check out time is 10:00 am.

Amazing view from cabin. Owners very helpful.

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at this cabin. Everything was very clean and in good order. What makes this cabin unique is the unparalleled view from the patio.

Highlight from our first visit to the Black Hills!

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect as a base for our stay in the Black Hills (4 adults, 1 toddler). A unique set of circumstances led us to stay here, and it ended up being a highlight of our 2-week trip through Minnesota and the Dakotas. The property is beautifully maintained and well-stocked with everything you need both inside and out. Eating breakfast and watching sunrise with views of the Black Hills and the valley below was breathtaking. Evenings roasting marshmallows around the campfire watching the Milky Way above and thunderstorms in the distance didn't get old. We had deer and turkeys wandering about most mornings. Custer is just down the hill and most points within the Black Hills are less than an hour away. The owners called the night we arrived to make sure we were settled and didn't have any issues - I really thought this was a nice touch. The only bad thing during our stay was when we had to pack up and leave - 1 week was great, but 2 would have been better!

Fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property! The driveway is steep and gravel, we had no problem in a Suburban, but cars with low clearance should beware. It got you to an amazing view and cute cabin. Basic cooking ingredients were available with is always nice. Beds were comfy and everything was clean. Great home base to see all the nearby sights. Then drive up and hear not another soul. Gorgeous rock formations just a couple feet from the cabin. We were on the road for 7000 miles over 33 days, this cabin was a highlight!

Amazing cabin with spectacular view!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved staying at Mountain Top. It was a perfect "home base" to explore the Black Hills, with all sights/activities very accessible from this location, yet with peace and serenity surrounding you. Plus, as stated in previous reviews, the view from the property is truly amazing and hard to describe in words or pictures. The cabin has all amenities you would want, and Dawn and Tim are great and attentive owners. We hope to be back!
