Built in 2015, the Tallhouse offers guests a unique opportunity to experience the peace of the Suffolk countryside in a contemporary building built to the highest craftsmanship. Vaulted sitting room, with large TV, internet and contemporary Scandinavian furniture features double doors onto a large private garden. The sitting room, large bathroom and modern kitchen have a heated concrete floor that's a delight in bare feet and keeps the whole building toasty. Handmade stairs (built by the joiners who worked on Grayson Perry's amazing building, The House for Essex, in nearby Wrabness) leads on to two huge bedrooms - with a futon, should there be one or two small guests in addition to four adults. Surrounded by fields and a small wood, the Tallhouse offers really lovely opportunities for walks – especially to the renowned Butt & Oyster pub on the river and The Suffolk Food Hall, both about a mile away and both foodie heavens. The Tallhouse is perfect for sailing from Royal Harwich Yacht Club, Pin Mill Yacht Club or Fox's Marina. We're also only about 30m from the stately Woolverstone Hall, a popular wedding venue. About Sarah Tomley
We (David and Sarah) moved from London to Suffolk ten years ago, because we were struck by how beautiful and unspoilt the landscape is, while still only an hour from London. It was only later that we discovered that it is packed full of creatives (so many artists and writers!) and produces the best food in the country (most of which is available at the Suffolk Food Hall, a mile down the road).
Why Sarah Tomley chose Babergh District
We knocked down a line of sheds in 2014 and built the tallhouse from new. You can see photos of the build on our website: suffolktallhouse (dot com).
What makes this House unique
The building was designed by architects Thomas & Spiers to sit naturally within the Suffolk countryside, while being entirely contemporary and filled with natural light. There is a very large private garden at the back, leading onto the wood and lots of walks around the peninsula.

Lovely place and plenty to see
We enjoyed our short stay
Suffolk food hall, great walk to the Butt & Oyster and close drive to beaches. Perfect for food lovers & walkers
idyllic location,peaceful,well maintained property
Close to the A 14 so able to visit plenty of locations, but a quite peaceful location with a lovely garden and wooded area at the back. All necessary utensils available on site, nice comfortable beds and well laid out downstairs with TV and dvds available. I would definitely return in the future.
Clean and specious
Gorgeous gardens and surrounding....very peaceful.
Another great weekend
This was our third visit, and as before we found the fine weather, the peace and quiet and the lovely long walks exactly what we and our two teenage children needed.
Lovely house - spacious and light
We booked the Tallhouse to use as a base to visit family in the area with out 2 children (5yrs and 18months). We were very impressed and will be booking again.
The property was well furnished and the kitchen had plenty of crockery, pans etc and things like tea towels, kitchen roll, fairy liquid and dishwasher tabs were already there to use which was a nice surprise! We were able to make ourselves at home and look forward to visiting again!
Thank you for your lovely review - and we're sorry that the New Year fireworks slightly marred your stay. We'd love to welcome you back!
There's plenty to do around the Tallhouse, from Jimmy's Farm and the Suffolk Ski/rock climbing Centre, to the beaches of Felixstowe and Aldeburgh, Ipswich Museum (with adorable mammoth!), Alton Water, The Wolsey Theatre, Dance East, Latitude Festival, and about 10 miles away you're driving (or walking?) through Constable Country in the vale of Dedham.
