Villa Mandala is one of three villas at Sendas del Mar which lies in a two and one half acre gated compound on the beach at Barra de Potosi. The beach is an unspoiled nine mile stretch of white sand on the Pacific coast of Mexico fifteen minutes south of the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo International Airport.
Villa Mandala is an elegant 500 square foot one bedroom villa constructed of tropical hardwoods, cemento polido and palapa roof. It has a king sized bed, coffee bar with mini-fridge, inside seating area, spacious bathroom and private patio. It is fully screened and equipped with ceiling fans. All the water is purified..The whole property has Wi-Fi internet.
The property has over three hundred feet of beachfront and the ocean is literally 100 steps away. A nearby point shelters the beach from open surf and provides gentle waves, perfect for swimming in the 80 something degree water.
The three villas at Sendas del Mar share a beachfront infinity pool, a shaded pavilion with a full sized pool table and 3000 sq meters of grounds with tropical gardens, water lily pond and orchard. There is a large parking area inside the walls The caretaker family lives on the premises and provides cleaning and security services. Onsite staff can help make arrangements for massages, private cook, fishing, golfing and surfing outings as well as sightseeing trips to nearby Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa.
Sendas del Mar is a five minute walk from the village of Barra de Potosi with its restaurants and grocery stores and its famous seafront seafood enramadas. It also offers kayak and paddle board rentals and boat tours of the offshore islands and the lagoon, which is a birder’s paradise.

we are a retired American couple now living full time in Mexico where we split our time between Barra de Potosi and San Miguel de Allende. From November until April we spend most of our time at Villa Maderas on this property in Barra de Potosi, so there is a good chance you will meet us there.
Over the years, we have explored almost all of the Pacific coast of Mexico. This place is sometimes called The Last Best Beach because it remains so natural and simple despite being just 10 minutes away from an international airport. We never found any place that comes close in terms of natural beauty, laid back atmosphere, and great community.
Paradise in the truest sense of the word...if you really want to get away and find some peace and quiet with nature all around you and the beach just steps away, you have chosen the right place.
Staying at the Sendas del Mar on the last best beach in Mexico in the town of Barra de Potosi makes for a very, very special vacation. We have had many vacations in Mexico but it is different here. We are surrounded by nature and it's so peaceful. This year was our third stay in the Villa Mandala. All of the Villas are absolutely beautiful and the grounds are filled with trees, plants, ponds and variety of birds......amazing. A pathway winds from the entrance past all 3 villas right to the infinity pool and beach. The location of this property is perfect as it is right next to the town, restaurants and the lagoon. We are so greatful to Barbara and Gunnar for giving us the opportunity to stay in their Villas. The caretakers Tito, Carmen and their kids live on the property and were very kind and helpful for anything we needed. Some of the things we enjoyed were kayaking, SUP, walking the beach every morning and coming back for a fresh cup of local coffee. The birdwatching here is unbelievable and we went on a special early morning tour in the lagoon where we saw dozens of different species. We like to go to one of the many beach restaurants for a meal of fresh fish and a couple of cervezas. Also, we strolled around the village in the evening for some authentic Mexican food and met some amazing local people. Of course this is all if we can tear ourself away from the Sendas del Mar!
We stayed in Villa Mandala, a lovely casita at Sendas del Mar for ten days. The Villa was spotlessly clean and delightful. A setting doesn't get much more beautiful than at Sendas del Mar. There is a magnificent infinity pool which overlooks the ocean and the pristine beach. We spent most of our days lounging at the pool, taking long walks on the cleanest beach I have ever seen and just enjoying the tranquility and peacefulness of Barra de Potosi. Tito, the property manager, and his beautiful wife, Carmen, were very helpful and charming. This was a perfect place to unwind from a hectic lifestyle. The only drawback for some might be that there aren't very many restaurants to choose from. We ate at the empanadas on the beach most of the time or cooked in. For us, it wasn't a problem considering the beauty of the place.
After three months of cold and grey weather in our hometown, we decided to take off for Sendas del Mar in Barre de Potosi...just a short drive from the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Airport.
We've been there before, but haven't returned for almost five years. My husband and I
couldn't wait to get back to one of our favorite spots in the entire world. Upon our arrival, we settled into the same charming casita in which stayed during our last wonderful visit.
The grounds were absolutely gorgeous with so many blooming flowers and a beautiful little fish pond. The lovely infinity pool was so pristine, perfect temperature, and we when we weren't swimming, we could sit and watch the waves from our comfortable lounge chairs. The lovely beach and ocean were perfect for gentle body surfing and long walks. We also charted a little boat. The friendly driver took us on a lovely sightseeing trip and even brought us to a reef where we had a chance to snorkel. Our hosts and staff couldn't have been more kind and generous. This was indeed a fantastic week!
My second visit to Sendas del Mar:
I visited Barra de Potosi and Sendas del Mar approx. one year at the suggestion of friends.
This visit, one week was a family outing with our group renting all three villas. Prior to my first visiit, I had the good fortune having lunch with the property owner which proved fruitful and gave me a "lay of the land". The adventure and stay is not for those who are after the glitz and craziness of high rise hotels or major resorts. It is for people that will enjoy serenity, quiet, unencumbered beaches and the relaxation of the beautiful infinity pool. The design of the villas is open in style and appointed with furnishings that make each of the villas very appealing. In both adventures to Sendas del Mar I was hosted by a delightufl young couple with two young children. They have little english but with my bit of Spanish there were no problems in communicating. All the units afford individual privacy, have perfect lounging areas and have kitchens that "cook in" visitors to proceed as desired. There is no need for a a rental car as there are local taxis stationed not 200 yds from the villas. In this year's visit we took advantage of Carmen's breakfast offerings which are prepared in the villa---fresh diced fruit, bred, eggs Mexicana, frijoles and salsa as desired. We also treated ourselves to her cooking in the evening. She prepares fresh fish, either baked with vegetables or grilled with a side of rise and frijoles. Husband, Tito catches the fish the day of the dinner. In the eating arena, one of the delights of a stay is the five minute walk to five family owned, palapa style, open air restaurants. Again, fresh catch is never ending and the prices bordering on ridiculous. You dine right on the beach. Internet and cell service we found to be as good as in the states. We found only one time that we wanted to go in Ixtapa---that to a fancy hillside restaurant in Zihautanao. No speed boat rides, no parasailing, no loud music and hosts and accomodations that are world class. Last and important, the little sleep town of Barra de Potosi is but 350 people, few gringoes in the area and is but 15 minutes from the internationl airport. Enjoy!!!!!!!
For those seeking a vacation spot overflowing with beauty, charm and warmth, look no further. The elegant Villa Mandala at Sendas del Mar has it all. A lovely, virtually private beach and infinity pool literally steps from your charming and beautifully appointed villa await you each morning. Stroll through the magnificent landscaped grounds, take a short walk on the beach to one of the beachfront enramadas and enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch - fresh seafood abounds - or rent a kayak and paddle and do a bit of bird watching on the peaceful adjacent lagoon. Do it all or just grab a book and sit yourself by the pool for ultimate relaxation. The little village of Barra de Potosi is barely a five minute walk from your villa. And for those who can't wait to begin their vacations within minutes of leaving the plane - Sendas del Mar is less than a 20 minute ride from Zihuatanejo International Airport. 6 stars barely does justice to this gem of a vacation destination.
If ultimate relaxation is what you're looking for, the villas at Sendas del Mar are perfection. First off, it’s beautiful—the magnificent wooden entryway to their landscaped grounds, lush with foliage, and the villas and owner’s home that have incorporate local wood into the architecture and fit naturally with the seascape. I stayed in the Villa Mandala, named for the Mandala art, a circular piece in vivid reds made entirely from yarn, which hangs above the comfy king-sized bed. The villa, which is accented with Mexican art, includes a sitting area, table and chairs, a well-equipped efficiency kitchen and Wifi. I started my day with a long walk on an unspoiled stretch of beach, that's just a few steps from the villas, and spent some afternoons reading outdoors in one of the chairs outside my villa which was near a lilly pond. The palapa, next to the infinity pool, is the perfect place to watch the sunset. Seafood restaurants are just a short walk along the beachfront, to the left of Sendas del Mar, and there are other eating options in town that's less than a ten-minute walk away. Make certain you go bird watching on the lagoon, stop by the women's collective for handmade dolls and other crafts made by local women. And if you're a fisherman, bring your pole. Owners Barbara and Gunner are excellent hosts. Their staff, Tito and Carmen, take excellent of care of you. What's not to love?
We are located a 2 minute walk from the village of Barra de Potosi. It is a tiny authentic fishing village set at the mouth of a large lagoon. Nature abounds; birds, fish, whales, dolphins. You can get a good idea of the area at www.lastbestbeach.com
