The beach is an unspoiled nine mile stretch of white sand on the Pacific coast of Mexico fifteen minutes south of the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo International Airport.

The three villas at Sendas del Mar share a beachfront infinity pool, a shaded pavilion with a full sized pool table and 3000 sq meters of grounds with tropical gardens, water lily pond and orchard. There is a large parking area inside the walls The caretaker family lives on the premises and provides cleaning and security services. Onsite staff can help make arrangements for massages, private cook, fishing, golfing and surfing outings as well as sightseeing trips to nearby Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa.
Sendas del Mar is a five minute walk from the village of Barra de Potosi with its restaurants and grocery stores and its famous seafront seafood enramadas. It also offers kayak and paddle board rentals and boat tours of the offshore islands and the lagoon, which is a birder’s paradise.

About Gunnar Erickson
we are a retired American couple now living full time in Mexico where we split our time between Barra de Potosi and San Miguel de Allende. From November until April we spend most of our time at Villa Maderas on this property in Barra de Potosi, so there is a good chance you will meet us there.
Why Gunnar Erickson chose Barra de Potosí
Over the years, we have explored almost all of the Pacific coast of Mexico. This place is sometimes called The Last Best Beach because it remains so natural and simple despite being just 10 minutes away from an international airport. We never found any place that comes close in terms of natural beauty, laid back atmosphere, and great community.
What makes this Villa unique
Paradise in the truest sense of the word...if you really want to get away and find some peace and quiet with nature all around you and the beach just steps away, you have chosen the right place.

Everything was spot on. We felt so comfortable with the Mandala the minute we stepped inside and Tito showed us around. It is exactly like the photos. The cabana and the grounds exude a peaceful energy. The information in the booklet and three ring binder made for seamless entry into the world of Barra de Potosi. Loved every minute of it. Thank you so much!
Dear Barbara & Gunnar,
We had a fabulous time at your beautiful home in La Barra. One week was definitely not long enough, two would have been perfect.
We met some lovely people and had such a fabulous time, the locals are all such friendly and kind people.
We did an early morning tour up the lagoon, saw some amazing bird life and enjoyed the tranquil beauty at 7am as we experienced the sun rise.
Tito helped us to book a snorkel/boat tour out to the big white rock and surrounding area. The trip turned out to be much more than we expected, we even saw dolphins which was the icing on the cake.
The highlight of the trip was getting to know the local people and how their little village works. We loved how they open up their homes to become restaurants in the evening. We tried several restaurants and were never disappointed. It was such a wonderful, cultural experience and so relaxing.
We also really enjoyed Tito and Carmen as well. Even though we don’t speak Spanish, we managed to communicate and had fun doing it. They have a wonderful sense of humour!
It was a great family vacation that was enjoyed by all!
The property and facilities (3) were outstanding ! The on site property manager and his wife are terrific and make sure all your needs are taken care of. Carmen will even cook for you and provides laundry service. While the 2 1 bedroom units have no AC. the seabreeze provides a beautiful cooling effect.
Would have liked to have had a small hotplate to use for cooking , but with the cost of dinning out , it was no big issue , the other 2 units have gas stoves. The 2 bedroom is very spacious and open to the sea breezes in the living area. The 2 bedrooms have AC. although we didn't use them . Gunnar is very easy to deal with. The property is close to the village , an easy walk for any things you may want , (dinner, lunch, massage etc.).
The beach is almost unblemished with the majority of the people on it , fishermen casting into the water.
Truely a paradise !
OH yes a beautiful infiniti pool
So glad you enjoyed your stay and Tito and Carmen too!

Villa Mandalla was a fantastic place to stay - very peaceful and comfortable. The Lagoon is special!
It was a great experience. We enjoyed the close interaction with the Mexican village people. They were friendly and happy. The food was safe to eat and the restaurant servers were eager to please.
When we left poor Tito thought he was taking us to the airport - misunderstanding. We thought we had to arrange a taxi to pick us up.
Overall it was a wonderful holiday. The highlight was going out into the Lagoon with Chely - twice and seeing the Spoonbills! This should definitely be made into a National Park- soon!
The little town is quite clean. Most people are truing to remember to use the garbage cans. It was good that there is a dog rescue program. Most dogs looked fed - not too many strays.
Great place to go!
Thank you so much for your review. Delighted that you found our little last best beach paradise as wonderful as we think it is. The Lagoon is indeed special. Hope you go to try Dona Emy's famous pork tacos too!

Relaxation on a whole new level
Staying at the Sendas del Mar on the last best beach in Mexico in the town of Barra de Potosi makes for a very, very special vacation. We have had many vacations in Mexico but it is different here. We are surrounded by nature and it's so peaceful. This year was our third stay in the Villa Mandala. All of the Villas are absolutely beautiful and the grounds are filled with trees, plants, ponds and variety of birds......amazing. A pathway winds from the entrance past all 3 villas right to the infinity pool and beach. The location of this property is perfect as it is right next to the town, restaurants and the lagoon. We are so greatful to Barbara and Gunnar for giving us the opportunity to stay in their Villas. The caretakers Tito, Carmen and their kids live on the property and were very kind and helpful for anything we needed. Some of the things we enjoyed were kayaking, SUP, walking the beach every morning and coming back for a fresh cup of local coffee. The birdwatching here is unbelievable and we went on a special early morning tour in the lagoon where we saw dozens of different species. We like to go to one of the many beach restaurants for a meal of fresh fish and a couple of cervezas. Also, we strolled around the village in the evening for some authentic Mexican food and met some amazing local people. Of course this is all if we can tear ourself away from the Sendas del Mar!
We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay in our little bit of paradise!

Breathtakingly beautiful setting on pristine beach!
We stayed in Villa Mandala, a lovely casita at Sendas del Mar for ten days. The Villa was spotlessly clean and delightful. A setting doesn't get much more beautiful than at Sendas del Mar. There is a magnificent infinity pool which overlooks the ocean and the pristine beach. We spent most of our days lounging at the pool, taking long walks on the cleanest beach I have ever seen and just enjoying the tranquility and peacefulness of Barra de Potosi. Tito, the property manager, and his beautiful wife, Carmen, were very helpful and charming. This was a perfect place to unwind from a hectic lifestyle. The only drawback for some might be that there aren't very many restaurants to choose from. We ate at the empanadas on the beach most of the time or cooked in. For us, it wasn't a problem considering the beauty of the place.
We are located a 2 minute walk from the village of Barra de Potosi. It is a tiny authentic fishing village set at the mouth of a large lagoon. Nature abounds; birds, fish, whales, dolphins. You can get a good idea of the area at www.lastbestbeach.com
