About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bath, Central A/C, Offstreet Parking, Close to Great Attractions!!

This listing is for the upstairs unit of The Purple Orchid, and this stunning home is located in Esplanade Ridge, one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city (in my completely unbiased opinion of course, but I do think reviews speak for themselves!).

This home features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, hardwood floors, a fully functional kitchen, a laundry room, LOTS of artwork, central air and heat, off street parking and over 2000 square feet of living space in this upstairs unit alone. The location, artwork and architecture are really what set this place apart. The streetcar is a pleasant 5 to 10 minute walk down Esplanade Avenue from the home, and there is a bus stop just a couple blocks away that will take you straight to the French Quarter. Also within walking distance are a number of great small restaurants, a coffee shop, small market, wine shop and again, all surrounded by beautiful architecture and 100+ year old live oaks.

PLEASE NOTE, this is a quiet residential neighborhood and not a home for parties or large gatherings of any sort (outside visitors/ guests MUST be approved prior to booking). Also because the owners do not want too much foot traffic gathered in either the upstairs unit or the downstairs unit, we do not rent out the whole home (upstairs and down) to the same group.

Also, guest comfort is a top priority for us, and with this being the upstairs unit, there will be guests below you as well. We do ask that you be considerate and keep volume to a reasonable level, especially in the evenings, and we ask the same from the downstairs group as well.

About Mike

Hello! I've become something of a vacation rental veteran now with a few year's experience hosting guests from around the world under my belt. There are always a few exceptions, but overall it has been a truly wonderful experience, one that's allowed me meet some great people and provide an excellent vacation for the many friends and families who have come to stay in this great city.

As an avid traveler myself, I am keenly aware of some of the difficulties of getting a nice place that is as advertised, in a good location, with a host who is dependable and who can help you answer many of the questions involved in trip planning. I can share a lot of my travel experiences as well as my expertise on the great city of New Orleans, as having lived here for over half my life, I have plenty to share if interested. Some of my interests include reading, art, health, cooking and as mentioned, meeting new people.

If you have any questions at all about me, about my place or about the great city I live in, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Mike purchased this house in 2002

Wow...just Wow the house is sooooo Beautiful and eclectic

  • 5 of 5

Every room, hallway is an experience. The decorating is amazing. Days into the trip you would discover another unique collectable or picture you had not noticed before. Felt very much like home very quickly. Lots of living space. Well stocked kitchen for utensils and cooking vessels.

The convenience of location was amazing. 5 min walk to at least 4 or 5(possibly more) good restaurants. 5 minute walk to a grocery that carried everything under the sun. 5 minute walk to street car that will get you to the action in 20 minutes, for $3 for all day pass. 5 people in our group and all loved it.

Super cool space

  • 5 of 5

My teenaged daughter, when reaching the top of the steps, said "wow". My son, his first visit to NOLA, said "this is how I envisioned New Orleans". The apartment is very cool, very spacious and very unique. I was surprised at the size of the apartment - large bedrooms, a living room, a dining area and a sun room. First visit to NOLA not staying near the CBD or FQ - did not miss it. Morning Call in City Park is easy walking distance for cafe au lait and beignets. The street car to Canal St. is even closer. I highly recommend this place and hope to return someday.

Convenient, great neighborhood, plenty of space

  • 5 of 5

Loved the old woodwork and the roominess. We mostly cooked and ate in, but trips to the French Quarter were just minutes away down Esplanade, while daily walks to City park activities were also very convenient. Amenities were all there - washer, cooking stuff, linens, TV for exhausted kids, and safe off-street parking. Very easy to get on/off the interstates, so mini trips were also very convenient.

Unique, eclectic property - great experience

  • 5 of 5

My wife, myself, college age daughter and boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed this property. We felt totally safe, neighbors were nice and we walked everywhere. There is a good choice of walkable restaurants, coffee shop and a very cool old school grocery store that has everything you need, prepared foods and a good wine selection. The neighborhood was great and catching the trolley to the quarter was a breeze. This property was so close to the City Park we were able to walk to the starting line of the Crescent City Fall Classic in about 15 minutes. To say the house is interesting would be an understatement, something new to discover in every room and outdoors (didn't notice the dragon on the roof until we were pulling off) - having off street parking was an added bonus. We had a great experience and would recommend this property.
