About the property

Private Main Cabin and Spa Cabin directly on the River

Zen River Retreat is our Shangri-La on the Olympic Peninsula...a rainforest refuge of enchanting river gardens with three private lodgings tucked within: the Zen Cabin, the Buddha Cabin, and the Host Cabin---any of which may be rented independently or together for larger group occasions.

The Zen Cabin (Cabin 1) is perched in the north woods, where the Little Quilcene river flows through a lush forest canyon. Gravel paths meander gardens of giant ferns, ancient cedars, and twisting vine maples. Wooden bridges connect your main cabin with your spa cabin, and the covered deck with the hottub overlooking the river. Exceptionally peaceful, private, and just 2 hours from Seattle, the Zen Cabin is ideal for romantic weekend getaways, smaller-family vacations, and personal wellness retreats.

The Zen Cabin sleeps four persons comfortably--fully equipped and furnished for entertaining, cooking, relaxing and slumbering in comfort with touches of the Far East.

Wood-Burning Stove and WiFi included.

The Spa Cabin is your private recreation and restoration space. The heated tile floor make it cozy for writing, dining or games at the table, naps on the daybed or barefoot lounging between soaks in the hottub. Terrycloth robes provided.

Massage and other holistic therapies are available for singles, couples or groups. The spa cabin becomes your personal wellness center while your professional healer restores you. Soothing music, candles, and natural oils provided.

Surrounded by a vast natural wonderland of saltwater bays, serene lakes, and the breathtaking Olympic Mountains, Zen River guests have plenty to explore nearby.

Local attractions include charming seaside towns, arts and music festivals, organic farms and wineries, boating, fishing, and hiking to incredible summits and waterfalls...all within easy reach of Zen River Retreat.

About Erik Mart

I grew up on the eastern side of the Puget Sound, but have loved the Olympic Peninsula since I can remember. My grandparents had a charming little cottage in Port Townsend which my family visited often, exploring the whole region in the process. From the beaches around PT to the rugged Pacific Coast, from cascading rivers in the Olympic Mountains to the mossy wonders of the Hoh Rainforest. It was a wonderland I dreamed of making my home....and eventually that dream came true.

Erik Mart purchased this cabin in 2005

If You're Looking for Relaxation, Look No Further

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend this getaway to anyone who's been intrigued from the pictures alone.

I was looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway for my girlfriend and I to celebrate our anniversary and this was THE perfect place. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed an extra day.

Erik, (the owner), really outdoes himself with making this the most perfect and stress-free retreat. There was firewood stacked and ready for the wood burning stove, (which Erik already had lit for our arrival), fresh tulips placed in the living room and near the hot tub, new candles everywhere you could possibly want candles, freshly cleaned linens and towels, and the hot tub and heated floors of the spa were hot and ready to go. There was also a charcoal grill out back with charcoal already stacked and ready for cooking. (Additional charcoal and grilling supplies were outside the front door.)

Erik gives a great, informative, and friendly tour when you first arrive; explaining everything you need to know about the property and how to really enjoy your time.

If anyone is wondering about privacy, we never saw anyone after Erik finished his tour. It was completely private and I couldn’t even see the other cabin next door. There is a road nearby that you come in on, but hardly any cars go down it, (not that you can really hear or see them at all.)

We really enjoyed the hot tub, which overlooks the river. We spent a lot of time relaxing in there. And speaking of the river, that is definitely one of the best features of this spot. Sleeping with the windows open and hearing that river running as you fall asleep and wake was really peaceful.

Anyway, in summation, this is a really great getaway, (especially for the price), and you will not regret your decision.

Tranquil Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I reserved both cabins for a birthday celebration for my sixteen year old son. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner, Erik. He spent a good deal of time showing us around the grounds and explaining how everything worked in the cabins.

Erik truly thought of everything with these cabins! We couldn't have asked for more perfect accommodations. The zen cabin was thoughtfully and artfully furnished. It was a sight to behold. Just outside, there was a walkway leading to the hotub overlooking the river. What an idyllic setting!

The Buddha cabin was more rustic-perfect for my crew of teenage boys. There were fire pits at each cabin and plenty of room for the boys to run around outside.

I can't say enough about both the perfectly wonderful cabins and Erik's hospitality. We will definitely be back!

I love this cabin on the river, and Erik is a wonderful helpful host. I bring a group of writers to this cabin for a retreat once a season, and it is an excellent peaceful place to stay and write. All amenities are there, plus the nice extra space in the spa cabin with a heated floor. Lots of little nooks both inside and out on the property to take in the scenery. Looking forward to continuing to visit.
