about Precolumbian history, native plants & Mexican Art. I am inspired

Why Mimi Haberfeld chose Oaxaca

I purchased this adobe farm house, remodeled it & have enjoyed it, for its

proximity to Centro.Without the noise of the city, the house is located

in a working class Mexican neighborhood, yet an easy 15-20 minute walk straight to the Zocalo! The beautiful garden space has grown into a jungle,

all in pots!

What makes this apartment unique

The spectacular views from the upper deck is perfect for enjoying the 180 degree mountain and valley views!

Beautiful home in Oaxaca!

  • 5 of 5

Our party of five adults stayed at this beautiful home just recently. It is gorgeous, clean, and in a good location central to all of our activities. I highly recommend this home in Oaxaca! The patio is where we spent a lot of our time when we were not out and about. It is covered and very beautiful with many plants and decorations. Mimi was very helpful, as we had to cancel our planned stay in November, so she was kind enough to rebook us so that we did not lose our deposit. Alejandro and Judith were very kind and attentive. They helped to make our stay at Casa Vino Tinto special.

Nice place with some shortcomings

  • 4 of 5

We were two couples, so we had lots of room. The apartment was reasonably clean but showed some signs of neglect (e.g., persistent water leak underneath the sink, maintenance of the bathrooms, etc.). There was some confusion and a minor problem with the water supply. This situation should be clarified. Although not really an aspect of the property itself, a major irritant was the noise caused by a neighbour's dog, at all times of the day! Another neighbour with a motorcycle sans muffler also caused several disturbances. Earplugs required... Overall it is a pleasant place to stay, with the patio/garden being one of the winning elements. It is well within walking distance of the downtown area, a stone's throw away from a small food store, and fairly close to several major supermarkets. It should be mentioned that there are three units in the building and that the upstairs neighbours need to pass through the space of the middle unit to get to their own space. This was not a problem at any time during our stay, but that will depend on the people inhabiting the upstairs unit. The personnel was very friendly and helpful although communication was rather difficult since none of us spoke any Spanish and they spoke zero English. Hand-waving did work.

Owner's Response: After the renter alerted me to the leak under the kitchen sink early on during their stay, it was repaired. I was not made aware of a continuing problem, nor did she mention the bathrooms. I don't know what she found objectionable as there never has been a complaint about the level of cleanliness. The apartment is cleaned thoroughly once a week. There have been some uncommon winds and electrical storms these last weeks, perhaps the bathroom off the patio received more debris than normal from the storms. I'm not sure what to say about the neighborhood dogs but that the problem exists all over Oaxaca. During festivals when the churches are igniting fireworks it's an irritation at best. It's a loud and raucous culture, noise is more the norm than the exception here.

Arte Comida

  • 5 of 5

I shared the home with 3 friends for 10 days. The home was very comfortable. Fully supplied kitchen, laundry. Beautiful patios which we took full advantage of. Pleasant 20 minute walk to the centro. Quiet neighborhood except for neighbors dogs barking at night. We discovered a wonderful tiny Italian restaurant very close to the house called Arte Comida. The chef cooked us a wonderful 4 course meal with wine for very few pesos.

Wonderful stay at Casa Vino Tinto!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (six people) stayed here over Christmas and had a lovely time. The house is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could possibly need and the patio area is a wonderful place to relax after sightseeing in the city. The property is well maintained and clean and the pictures shown on the website are accurate. The owner responded very quickly to my enquiry and Judith and Alejandro, the live-out housekeepers, were also very welcoming and helpful. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer - we would certainly like to stay here again if we have the chance to return to Oaxaca. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Charming casa 20 minutes walk out of cultural center

  • 4 of 5

Up the hill from the center you will find a beautifully cared for 3 bedroom casa with a courtyard filled with ceramic sculpture, outdoor dining area and greenery. The master bedroom has a bathroom attached to the room, the other two have a bathroom off the courtyard. The kitchen is beautiful and fully stocked with pots & pans etc etc . Mimi, who manages communications and Judith & Alejandro care take the property - all terrific!
