We had a pleasant experience in our stay for 12 days at Vincent's house. It is a nice and comfortable house in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Close to White Plains downtown, shopping centers and restaurants and also to main parkways and to the train station so it makes easy to move around.

The communication with Vincent before our trip was quick, clear and timely and Maria our hostess at the place was always friendly and helpful in everything we need.

Big House, tons of space

  • 3 of 5

I came to White Plains for my Co-Ed bridal shower and needed a place where my family could stay. There was plenty of room! It was very comfortable for everyone that stayed. It was very close to where my shower was being held, so that was nice. We were able to accommodate 3 cars in the driveway, which was nice.

Negatives: I could not get the owner Maria on the phone at all. I sent her multiple text messages, but she never answered them prior to my stay. Vincent did respond right away. We have stayed in many Air BNB's and other homes and we are usually given instructions about garbage, wifi, etc. We heard NOTHING and were given nothing! This I thought was super weird. Maria met us when we first arrived and gave us the keys. Maria lives next door and on our first night without calling or letting us know around 9PM, she knocked on the door. She wanted to check a thermostat, which we thought was weird. The house is old where the dishwasher has to be turned manually. When we left, we put the garbage as neatly as possible and cleaned our bedrooms.

We left and than received 2 phone calls from Maria, no message no nothing. I even sent her a text message asking what was wrong and if she wanted to talk. There was no response. The house was great and if we are in town maybe we would stay again, but the communication was lacking and we did not at all feel welcome. We didn't appreciate the appearance without calling first.

Satisfactory But A Tired House

  • 3 of 5

Overall it was clean, but very dated inside and the outside patio, backyard are in poor shape....run down. The coordination was easy and flexible for arrival time and departure, that was good/convenient.

Owner's Response: This is an very old, large Grand Dame of a house. The outside is in good shape. It is a duplex. The left side, which Scott rented, was renovated 18 months ago.......new bathrooms, flooring, stairs, paint, windows, lighting & light fixtures, and completely decorated. New bedding, coach, rugs, etc. The kitchen cabinets were refurbished. The laundry appliances are new. New sink and faucet in the kitchen. We get more compliments on the interior. As for the backyard, it is NOT included in the rental. Granted, the front porch is scheduled to be repainted. It is an old house, but NEW inside. As for what we did for this guest, we went over and beyond. He scheduled a 10 am early check-in, we arranged to have someone there for his arrival with no additional charge to him. He, then, texted 11 am, then noon. Finally, our worker had another house to attend to. She did leave instructions and the keys. We were HAPPY to do this. This is a prime location and our guests are thrilled with the cleanliness, atmosphere, furnishings and comfort of the house; as well as the accessibility to White Plains and Metro North for Manhattan. We do welcome feed-back from our guests and are always trying to improve. Thank you. Vincent

Exactly What We Were Looking For

  • 4 of 5

Nice sized home, part of a duplex in a neighborhood setting in White Plains. Plenty of space for our traveling party of one couple and several single adults. Amenities were as advertised in terms of renovations, wifi, tv, etc.

Owner or management were attentive. Did not know how to use the dishwasher and they were right there to show us.

Only issue was a miscommunication regarding what was billed as a Damage Deposit. Based on that verbiage, I did not charge the rest of my party for that as I assumed it would be coming back to me. They do not require any large security deposits like other rentals. I'm told in lieu of that, this Damage Deposit is actually a non-refundable fee. Again, I understand the concept, but got myself caught short in terms of reimbursement.

All in all, I would recommend and suspect that we will be renting here again in the future!

Sufficient

  • 3 of 5

Overall, this was a clean and comfortable place to stay. Some of the highlights are, very large front room and dining room as well as convenient access to downtown White Plains without being in the immediate downtown area. We used the house as a home base for the week to go into Manhattan and around Westchester Co. and it served this purpose well. Some concerns are, it only has two bathrooms even though it was initially listed as three. It was not a problem for us, but the stairs are very narrow to the third floor. We also had some problems with the first floor bathroom tub being clogged but got a very quick response and assistance clearing it out from the "host" Maria. On that note, Maria actually lived right next door so it was very convenient if there were any issues or questions but, it was felt that she hovered and was intrusive at least one time during our visit. We had many people in and out as we were in town for a wedding and had many people in to visit most days and evenings and on one occasion Maria just walked in the front door and tried a second time but the door was locked. I will say though that she was very friendly but we felt that it was a little inappropriate to try to enter without calling. Overall, I would recommend this property as it was cost-effective and comfortable for our two family group with multiple children.

Incompetent, dishonest and rude. Clean house though.

  • 1 of 5

If you can possibly avoid it, DO NOT STAY HERE. The house is clean. The structure is not safe for the old or young (narrow steps). The owner is atrocious. To be fair, I attempted to cancel my booking after the 30 day grace period due to some confusion with my wedding planning. Other experiences may vary, but mine is that the owner is incompetent, deceitful, and downright nasty.

He double booked one of the days and then belittled me when I asked to cancel that day later because he put the other renters in a hotel for that night. He could not figure out the simple solution of un-booking my reservation for that night, and un-booking the hotel reservation for the family without me pointing it out. When my parents, who arrived first, showed up to stay at the house, no one was there to meet them, and the owner's phone was off.

I missed the 30 day cancellation policy by 7 days and the owner claimed he would try to find other renters by posting the house on other websites. I told him that we would keep the booking if no one else could be found, and give him half of the nightly rate we already paid if another renter could be found. I later found out that the owner did not post the house anywhere else and that he flat out lied to me. I realize he was not obligated to re-post the house, but his deceit was quite confusing and unwelcomed.

The owner is inconsiderate and rude. When I called to speak to the owner, he verbally attacked me and refused to respond to further phone calls or emails. When the owner eventually showed up, he berated my parents, who were the first to arrive. This is particularly inexcusable because my parents' only role was staying at the house. I told him before hand that I was writing this review to give him an opportunity to fix the situation, and his response was "I hope you come to your senses and relies [sic] that reviews work both ways, in my situation I have many others reviews for the consumers to makeup their mind but in your situation you have mine to contend with."

On the bright side, however, the house was clean. Whoever they hire for the cleaning does a great job.

Owner's Response: UNBELIEVABLE!! VERY SAD! David was getting married &, as stated above, HIS plans changed. He MISSED the cancellation date and wanted me to reimburse him 100%!! He wanted me to pay for the fact that his wedding plans changed. I was able to give July 4th to the next guest and refunded David for that day............1/3 of his reservation. David had a 3-day HOLIDAY booking. He, then, wanted me to rent the other 2 days (less the holiday) but would not "cancel" his reservation, he wanted ME to "cancel". I would have been liable. As a result, the dates showed as BOOKED on VRBO, HOWEVER, on the other 2 sites that I use, July 2 & 3 were open. He was constantly e-mailing me and even called me. Honestly, common sense will tell you that you cannot rent a house for an holiday weekend WITHOUT the holiday!!! David would not listen and blamed me for the fact that he had to pay. So much so that he wanted ME to sign a CONTRACT to rent the other 2 days!! Notwithstanding my best efforts. This house is an older house totally renovated and decorated this year. It is well received and everyone loves it. It is a Grand Dame with modern amenities. I have multiple houses that I rent. Previously, I was a CEO of a large corporation. I am a seasoned businessman and poised. I do everything I can to keep my tenants happy. I resent his accusations. He wanted his refund, plain and simple. He NEVER cancelled. The reservation was his. I suggest avoid renting to this individual, for you could be subject to his abusive and misguided behavior as well. Vincent
