Home at Sharks Cove - Steps to beach, Steps to snorkel, Steps to gourmet food

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 6 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

HALE MAHANA (a restful and hospitable home) is located at the geographical center of Oahu's idyllic North Shore with dramatic ocean views. Experience a taste of 'Old Hawaii' flanked by the legendary shores of Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. This small section of coast with rock, sand, and coral outcrops, is so spectacular it has been protected by the State of Hawaii as a Marine Life Conservation Area. A bonus is that we are close to the gourmet food truck court - our favorite placed 2nd on top chef.

THE HOUSE has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and an elevated porch with sweeping ocean and sunset views. You will immediately relax in an open airy floorplan. Enjoy the stereo, and cable-equipped big screen TV with DVD. The fully appointed kitchen has granite countertops and facing barstools so you can talk with family and friends as you open a bottle of wine, prepare gourmet meals, or simply throw burgers on the BBQ. The master suite has a king size bed; second bedroom has a queen; and the third has two single beds.

CENTRALLY LOCATED. If you've been to the North Shore before, you'll know why return visitors want to stay in this neighborhood. Snorkeling at Shark's Cove is a 3 minute walk. Breathtaking Ke Iki beach is a 4 minute walk. We are at the south end of a 3 mile bike path which takes you past Pipeline (1 mi.), and Sunset Beach (2 mi.) In the morning, walk 2 blocks along the bike path to Starbucks, or stop at the adjacent Foodland Supermarket.

Drive south for 10 minutes and you find quaint and historic Haleiwa Town with its many restaurants, art galleries, and surf shops. Go north 10 minutes for world class golf at Turtle Bay Resort, or continue around the point to the windward side of the island and the Polynesian Cultural Center. As you explore this part of Oahu, you'll see why locals call the North Shore 'Country,' but driving time to Honolulu Airport is only 45 minutes, and Waikiki is 1 hour.

About Nicholas Maddocks

Aloha friends. Thanks for having a look and I think you'll really like the North Shore. I thought the beach where I grew up in San Clemente California was the best ever – that is until I came here. Now I make 2-3 trips per year. A typical day would be to walk to get coffee, walk by Shark’s Cove; check snorkeling; walk, jog, or ride up the bike path; chores – lot’s of home maintenance when you’re by the ocean; go to the beach – biggest decision – which beach; relax at home; have a cocktail on the lanai and watch the sunset. Mahalo.

Nicholas Maddocks purchased this house in 2005

Why Nicholas Maddocks chose Haleiwa

The reason I bought a home in Hawaii is largely attributed to my cousin who moved here when he became director of protected species for NOAA, and led conservation efforts for the Monk Seal and the Honu. All those years he was telling me about the magic of the North Shore. Then his son married a Hawaiian girl and they hosted a week's worth of festivities on the North Shore from Waimea Bay to Sunset Beach. After experiencing the beaches, beauty, and Aloha Spirit firsthand, I was hooked. Soon this home came available and my cousin went there and became my eyes and ears as we talked on the phone. After an hour of detailed communications, I made an offer and bought the house virtually sight unseen! It turned out to be the best move I've ever made and family, friends, and guests have been enjoying it ever since.

What makes this house unique

The best things about the property are the setting (quiet - set back off the highway); view of Shark’s Cove and Pupukea Marine Sanctuary; and perfect location – you can go to Shark’s Cove for snorkeling, walk to several beaches, or walk to Starbucks for coffee!

Great location...wanted more time!

  • 5 of 5

This three bedroom, two bath home is one home from the water. We could sit at the kitchen table and watch the whales breach and spout. From the moment we walked in the door it truly feels like your at your own second home. My sons are big on surfing and bodyboarding and we couldn't have found a better location. They literally wore themselves out in the water everyday. We took advantage of the BBQ, kitchen and outdoor lanai seating a lot. The nice lanai upstairs wasn't used as much as we wanted because the showers came and went. However, whenever we could we were up there because the view is so nice. Everyone complimented the beds being so comfortable and slept like babies. There is a wonderful bike path that goes for quite a distance so even us seniors enjoyed the bikes on hand. Dealing with Nick was a charm and I wouldn't hesitate to return. Loved how the house was decorated. We had a great time and only wish we had been able to stay longer. Darn those other renters getting there first!

Outstanding...The trip of a lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

Guys, I don't even know where to begin. If you have been searching for the perfect place to stay on the North shore you can stop right here.

I just came back from an "all girls trip" with my mom, daughter and sisters and we were so happy with this home, all the accomodation, has it all.

The house is beautiful, cozy and the owner has really thought of everything that one could want or need for their vacation. 3 bedrooms, all cozy beds (right down to the quality sheets, extra pillows etc. Each room has a fan or two, and a TV (but who am I kidding? I never turned mine on! Also, all the extra stuff one might need for the beach...snorkeling gear, ice chest, boogie boards, bikes, beach chairs, beach towels, binoculars ( we saw some record size waves and the surfers of course).

This home is literally steps away from the ocean, and amazing views from the upstairs balcony. There are several outside sitting areas to choose from...all of them fantastic.

North shore beaches, Shark's Cove just a short walking distance (where we loved to snorkel...just fantastic) , Bonsai pipline and Waimea beach close by. The historic town of Haleiwa just a short drive down the road with shopping and great food. Oh yea! Food trucks just literally across the main road and a supermarket too to keep food handy at the house.

The owners Nick and Monica where easy to get in contact with and responds quickly to all inquires. Instructions on how to check in and out were effortless, and they even provided info on suggested ideas of activities to do while we were there.

If you are looking to not only be on the island, but actually be IN the island this home will be perfect for you.

Best vacation rental on the island

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing. It’s located in the perfect location if you’re looking to relax and live the island life. It’s perfectly located between sharks cove which has amazing snorkeling and is great for families with small children because the water is protected from strong currents. To the right you have sunset beach which is 7 miles of bliss. We got lucky a surf competition was going on at the bonsai pipeline during our stay. I wish we could have spent more time here. On top of being in the perfect location the house is beautiful with amazing views. It can comfortably sleep 6 in the 3 bedrooms. I told my parents to stay here as they try to plan their Hawaii vacation.

This was my first VRBO type rental and in the back of my mind I was worried something might go wrong... well nothing did and Nick did a great job explaining his process of check in and check out.

This was the absolutely perfect choice for us.

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how great this beach home is. Everything from the location to the water, the really comfortable beds and linens, the cleanliness, and everything that comes with it. The bikes worked out great. The local food trucks were a hit too. So peaceful and quiet. The pictures do not do justice to this amazing place. Nick was great to work with too :) We know where we will be staying on our next trip to Oahu.

We all loved our stay on the North Shore
