Why Mike and Lorie Retford chose Idaho

Few areas provide such opportunities to have moose, dear, and other wildlife walk through the yard on a regular basis. Even the occasional bear! Neighbors are rarely present making it a very peaceful getaway. Another unique benefit of renting from us is the 'concierge' service we can provide. We can arrange for snowmobiles/ATV's to be sitting in the driveway when you arrive, gassed up and ready for you to enjoy. We can also arrange tours into Yellowstone (summer or winter), white water rafting, kayaking, zip line tours, snow skiing at a variety of resorts including Big Sky and Grand Targhee, boat rentals, etc. This area is famous for the year round recreational activities available to visitors. If a quiet, peaceful rest is more to your liking, just relax by the gas fireplace or enjoy watching the majestic pines sway in the breeze against the clean blue sky. Either way, we're sure you'll find what you're looking for in this property.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the cabin has comforts such as high end appliances, a new gas fireplace, and beautiful granite counter tops, the early 1900's vintage stove that came with the cabin really set the mood for everything else we did with the place. To us, the stove is a precious showpiece of american history. The antique claw foot tub is so comfortable to soak in, you may never want to leave. The cozy, warm wood interior features many custom details. Lorie is a gifted woodworker and has made lamps, cabinets, wall hangings, and little touches that really give the place a unique charm. There is a moose cow who brings her calf by each spring to show them off. Several of her calves are now large themselves and still frequent the yard. There are so many fishing, boating, hiking, biking, skiing and sightseeing opportunities near by that we still haven't seen or done them all after years of living here full time. The community is full of kind friendly people who are eager to help visitors enjoy this area we are privileged to call home.

Charming and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Mike and Lories cabin in April for our spring Yellowstone trip. The daily scenic drive to Yellowstone was about 40min. Our party was six, and the cabin was very comfortable and cozy. It was still a pretty cold time of year during our stay and there was a little snow still left on the ground, but was always nice and warm inside the cabin. We really liked the fire pit in the back, and we used the gas bbq every day. Mike and Lorie were very helpful and friendly. We'd love to stay here again in the future.

Sweet little cabin with SO much personality!

  • 4 of 5

I will start with the only complaint I have - the road up to the cabin is a bit "rustic" and as I arrived at night, it was somewhat challenging to find the place. It was MUCH easier to navigate in the daylight hours.

In any case, once we got there, boy, was it worth it! There is so much personality to this cabin. It is obviously well loved and cared for by Mike and Lorie! Every room has something special -- from the very unique glass on the bathroom door, to the hand made "chandelier" in the front room, to the kitchen cabinetry... it is all just beautifully done! There are two bedrooms upstairs with a small common room in between them that has a futon bed. As well there are two sofa sleepers downstairs. I went with my daughter and two grandsons and we had plenty of room to spread out. The cabin appears to be smallish from the outside, but it has loads of room inside - everything is very organized to optimize the interior space.

The cabin comes well furnished with staple condiments, lots of pots and pans as well as plates, bowls, glasses, etc. There were a couple times I found myself thinking "if only I had (fill in the blank)," then I looked around and there "it" was!

The cabin was a jumping off spot for our Yellowstone vacation and was fairly close to the park (40 minutes to the west entrance) and made visiting pretty easy. And it was welcoming to come back home to the barbecue on the back porch and fire pit in the back yard. We were fortunate to have arrived when the fire restrictions were minimal and were able to enjoy the pit - and s'mores fixin's were supplied by our wonderful hosts!

This is a really wonderful cabin! Our stay here could not have been better - it was very clean, very cozy and a great, quiet location. We will definitely try to book it again the next time we head to Yellowstone!

Wonderful retreat! Fantastic Hosts!! Cozy, quiet, all the amenities, beautifully decorated!

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful solitude awaits you in this charming cabin in the woods. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, but close enough to drive into Yellowstone for days of adventure. Mike and Lorie are wonderful hosts and would go out of their way to make your stay special. You'll spend most of your time looking at all the wonderful ways they have decorated the cabin!

Charming cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was charming, comfortable and affordable with everything we needed for cooking and relaxing. The decor reflects the area around it and the wood and glass touches were beautiful. It's nestled in the pine trees and very private even with cabins all around. I have to say of all the cabins we saw driving in it was by far the one with the most charm. The fire pit was a bonus and Mike and Lorie allowed us to use the wood that they had available. A bonus for anyone who has bought or scavenged for firewood. We enjoyed our stay and even with five adults there was plenty of hot water for all the showers needed to get five people ready for the day. My naughty dog damaged a quilt and I was completely mortified but Lorie was very gracious and tried to set my mind at ease. I still feel terrible.

I would highly recommend this rental for any family looking for a comfortable and beautiful place to stay while exploring Yellowstone and the Island Park area. Thank you Mike and Lorie for your hospitality.
