Description

Sonsonate Villa Rental Photos and Description

Everything you need in a vacation awaits you at this beach front home. From the beautiful sand of Playa Dorada to the private pool with swim-up bar, all your needs are catered to. Whether you are a couple ready for quiet time or a large family looking for your next reunion spot, the home can accommodate you. We are located at approximately KM 91 one mile off the coastal Highway CA-2. This is in the County (Departamento) of Sonsonate. See our website for additional house details, pictures and area attractions.

SEA TURTLE FARM AT PLAYA DORADA - Our beach is one of the most active sea turtle beaches in all of El Salvador. There is a new turtle farm on the beach. Our care takers can bring you to the farm and you can help bring the turtles to the sea at sunset. An amazing experience.

MEAL PREPARATION - Ana Rosa is one of the on-site care takers. For a small fee she will prepare meals upon request. Some of her specialties include ceviche, fish, shrimp, lobster and chicken served along with rice, beans and fresh tortillas. Ana gets the ingredients directly from the local fisherman and farmers which keeps the meal costs very reasonable, for much less than you would pay in a local restaurant and quite possibly less than you would pay preparing these meals yourself.

SURFING - Roll out of bed, grab your board, walk past the pool and catch a wave before breakfast. It’s that close. It's that convenient. If you want to explore a different scene, head out to Playa Mizata, a 5-minute drive away, or Playa El Zonte 40 minutes to the East. Both places have right-point breaks and sets that according to the locals line up “machine-like, with so much open wave face, it is like a skate park.” Water temperature is between 80°F and 85°F year-round. Winds are offshore and light in the mornings, and turn into light-to-moderate sea breeze (5-15 knots) by midday. Many of the breaks are well protected and surfable all day, because of the headlands and points.

We can arrange surf tours and surf boards rental.

DAY TRIPS - One of our favorite day trips is into the mountains to visit the hill towns of Apaneca, Ataco, and Juayua. The drive takes approximately 1 hour to reach the first of these towns. The trip takes you along the popular Ruta de las Flores (Route of the Flowers). Once here, you can stroll the cobblestone streets to visit local artisan galleries and old churches, hike to waterfalls or have lunch overlooking coffee plantations and volcanoes, or take a canopy tour. We can recommend guides for hike and tours.

SNORKELING, DIVING & FISHING - Playa Los Cobanos is located 1/2 hour from the house. El Salvador's best diving is found here. You will see a major coral formation. It's not a reef, but thousands of rocky heads covered in coral. Two shipwrecks are found at about 35 feet. Go at low tide for outstanding snorkeling. You can also find diving tour operators and deep water fishing guides operating out of this beach town.

TRANSPORTATION-We can arrange transportation - airport pick up, car rental, van with driver for large groups.

Why Marius Gherman, Alina Gherman chose El Salvador

On our first trip to El Salvador we fell in love with this tiny Central American country. The warmth of the people, the stunning landscape, the endless beaches and the warm Pacific waters made us on making the decision to purchase Casa Tortuga (The Sea Turtle House).

Disappointed! House Needs Updating

  • 2 of 5

We really expected more based on the many, many favorable reviews not only here but on other sites. I am now questioning who wrote them as we didn't find the same house they described. And much of the info we inquired about was not accurate. There are no restaurants and bars on the beach as we were told. We found one place down the dirt road and it was closed and the caretaker said 'he would not recommend it to gringos.' We brought some of our own food but hoped to hire the cook we had heard so much about but on the first morning when we asked about preparing breakfast (we speak Spanish and live in country) she pointed to a tiny shack down the street and said we could buy our eggs there and that she was working elsewhere. So then we looked for the advertised BBQ and it was nowhere to be found. So the caretaker went out and bought a new tiny one which was helpful but the kitchen was in bad shape. It was hot, rusty and dirty and we found moldy food inside the cabinets!! No toaster, no micro, no DW! It was not a comfortable place for us to cook in and quite frankly we don't like cooking every meal while on vacation anyway! We rent all over the central American/Mexico very often and always rent places walking distance to restaurants, bars and shops so we can go out and explore and eat and drink and that's what we expected here based on answers by the owner. Not true. Also, the wifi was practically non existent-and the TV and radio were brought out at our request and they were very basic. Many lights weren't working, one of the ACs was not working so we set up in a smaller very basic room sharing a bathroom with our kids and the next day they did get the AC fixed but at that point we were already wanting to leave the house due to the lack of comfort levels. We will say the pool is refreshing and beach was nice and we asked upon arrival if they could clear away the bottles and garbage in front of the house. We were actually shocked it hadn't been done before we arrived. There are no sandchairs, umbrellas, or boogie boards like one usually gets with beach house rentals! The waves are ok but not great for surfing as we had been told. The caretaker was around a lot, walking through our areas to check the beach, day and night so was kinda awkward, altho he was very nice. We reported our unhappiness to Marius and he refunded the unused days and we appreciated his professional response. With lots of updating and lower prices this place could be better.

Owner's Response: I would like to address the fact that we are an honest business. Questioning the honesty of the reviews of the previous guests, makes it questioning the good faith of this guest. All the info we provided to the guest were true and accurate. We mentioned that Playa Dorada is a fishermen village, with few comedores/ pupuserias and a restaurant. We never claimed that Playa Dorada is a touristy area. We are standing behind our caretakers, as they are very respectful and polite with all of our guests. I am highly doubting the fact that our caretaker was not offering her cooking services to the guest. As it is mentioned on the listing the cooking services are not included on the rental price and can be requested by the guest. In regards to the BBQ, unfortunately a previous guest broke it. We asked our caretaker to accommodate the guest on buying a brand new midsize BBQ. The kitchen was recently painted, it is cleaned twice a day. We never listed as the kitchen as having A/C, nor we never advertised as having micro or dishwasher. All the amenities we have advertised on the listing are accurate. Playa Dorada is a secluded fishermen village with a tranquil and quiet, almost private beach. It is not advertised as a beach town at all. The wifi was recently tested and it is working fine with the mobile modem all over the property. We do have cable TV and radio. Lights were replaced by the caretaker. We also requested an AC technician to have it fixed and was done very fast. We cannot control when the AC might broke down, but we're taking immediately all the measures to have it fixed. One thing we are bothered too, is that littering is unfortunately a common issue in Central America. We do have our caretakers cleaning in front of the house and on the beach all the time. On the listing we never advertised the sandchairs, umbrellas, or boogie boards as being provided. We cannot control the quality of the waves, as Mother Nature cannot provide us with the greatest waves for surfing all the time. If the guest has been feeling comfortable by the caretaker being around, she should have been reported to the owners right away. Our caretakers have excellent work ethics, are very polite and respect our guests' privacy all the time. We cannot make every guest happy, but we're standing behind the passion, work and love we're putting to Casa Tortuga. Testimony of our efforts are the previous guests reviews. My family and I had a very nice time, the house was clean and prepared for us. Mario is a very accesible and helpful person. The house has wonderful gardens, a very nice pool and the beach is a few steps away. I recommend the house and the owner.

Absolutely Perfect

  • 5 of 5

First of all I have to say that what you see is what you get. The pictures and descriptions are spot on and what you get when staying at Casa Tortuga! The property is very well kept and well thought out. The beach is fantastic and water is so very clean and clear.

The area is safe/secure and far away from any large towns. Lazaro the grounds keeper also performs security checks constantly during the day and is up all night making sure you are safe and sound. He walks the property as well as the beach itself. Anna the housekeeper was also wonderful. She was there for anything we needed and was always smiling.

Casa Tortuga is the perfect place to escape the world and have a very private and secluded vacation. With the mountains behind the house and the beautiful beach in front it is a picture perfect spot. This was a relaxing and worry free trip that we needed.

My wife and I will most certainly return soon.

Casa Tortuga – A great place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of a beach house

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to do something different and special for the Father’s day, so we decided to spend couple nights at a nice beach house in El Salvador with my kids. I didn´t really know where to go, until I found this little paradise called “Casa Tortuga”.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the care takers Ana and Lazaro who made us feel very welcomed. The rooms are very spacious, very nicely decorated with the beach and turtles theme all around and very clean. They have air conditioning and mosquito netting protecting all windows. The pool is beautiful, well maintained with crystal-clear water. It has a side for the little ones and a deeper side for the adults. The pool has a wet bar, and lots of room to sit around. It is located next to a nicely set up dinning and lounging area, with plenty of hammocks to relax while listening to the sounds of the waves. There is also a bar and a barbeque area for use. It has a very accommodating kitchen with brand new refrigerators and a gas stove. The cabinets have plenty of dishes and utensils to cook our own meals, which I find very convenient if you want to have yourself a nice homemade meal and save money by bringing your own ingredients. We slept really well knowing how secure we were and cozy with new A/C units to keep us comfortable. In the morning, we got up and enjoyed some time at the beach, located right in front of the property and accessed by a really nice deck built by the owners, where we also had breakfast admiring the stunning sunrise colors. In the evening we were mesmerized by fantastic sunsets. The sunsets as seen from Casa Tortuga were out of this Earth. We also walked down the beach, we felt secure all the time, and the locals were very friendly, waving at us. The garden is well maintained with manicured grounds, plenty of flowers and tall coconut trees. We spent some time in the pool again and took some time to enjoy the hammocks. We almost fall asleep, it was so relaxing! Time went by and we enjoyed every minute of it. We are planning our next stay already, but for a longer time. The owner Marius was very helpful during the process of booking the reservation ; he was very responsive and helpful with information the area and the property. We could tell his passion in maintaining and decorating the property. I recommend Casa Tortuga to anyone that enjoy to have a great and relaxing time close to the beach with a low budget !

Casa Tortuga – a beautiful home located in a beautiful country!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time at the house and we are very picky when it comes to our vacations. This is our second trip to El Salvador.

This home offered breathtaking, serene views of the Pacific coast line. This was the only beach house we ever stayed and we were able to admire both breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

Definitely the best option to enjoy views of the Pacific, the sun, and the best place to feel the sea breeze; upon arrival you realize you've elected the best place to enjoy the ocean, with a swimming pool facing to the ocean view, is just perfect to enjoy a cold beer or a fresh coconut provided by Anna.

The staff was perfect (Anna and Lazaro, good people and always smiling to us), the kitchen is FULL equipped, the spacious rooms are perfect for relaxing with A/C; big garden, colorful flowers, huge coconut trees, a great patio and a wooden deck in front of the sea was perfect to sit and enjoy the view.

Anna cooked for us delicious meals; she arranged to get us fresh fish caught on the same day; the ceviche and shrimp cocktails Anna prepared were mouthwatering. The homemade pupusas she prepared for us were the best ! No doubt she is a top notch cook !

We have a great time with my family, thanks to the staff and to the owner Marius, who was unbelievably accommodating. He provided us with very valuable information about the area and day tours.

This beach house was perfect!

Pro’s- Large Pool, Large Lanai/Patio, Cold AC, Clean Bathrooms, Great beach with crashing waves.

Con’s – The time flew by so fast at Casa Tortuga, we just could not leave.

Beach- Playa Dorada is a sandy beach with crashing waves. There is a shower to wash off sand next to the pool.

Home- The house is well maintained and all the facilities were very clean and well kept.

Pool- Pool is big and clean, with a shallow area for the kids. At night the pool was well lit and enjoying the pool under the stars was great. The pool also has its own restroom. The kids had lot of fun jumping and swimming in the pool.

Area- The area is very safe though, the local people are very nice and polite.

The house workers are great, very accommodating and will do anything you need.

We had a beautiful experience! I am highly recommending this place. It was magical! We will definitely back soon.
