The Rogue River House is an amazing 2.5 acre estate located directly on the Rogue River, five miles East from downtown Grants Pass and 19 miles from the Medford airport. It has been rumored that it was built for a famous Hollywood actor in 1939. The house has three bedrooms, three bathrooms with over 3200 sq. ft. of living space to accommodate up to eight people. The home is nestled among towering pines overlooking the beautiful Rogue River and has total privacy. Make no mistake, the house, the view, the river, the solar heated pool, and the setting will take your breath away. A large patio adjacent to the pool allows for unfettered views of the river and provides a wonderful location where you can enjoy all of your meals. A Bar-B-Q is located adjacent to the pool and deck where evening meals can be cooked and served overlooking the pool and the river. It is stunning!
This is an upscale high-end vacation home with all the amenities. All the furnishings are very tasteful and elegant. Many guests have said that while they were in Grants Pass for various reasons they never left the house. A major renovation was completed in early 2015, and more are planned for the early part of 2016.
Sweeping views of the Rogue River and the surrounding mountains to the north are yours from almost every room and from the large rear patio deck.Take a dip in the large solar heated pool or walk our private access path down to the river’s edge. Top of the line furnishings and the finest linens are found in all rooms. There are two living rooms, two fireplaces, a formal dining room, a large fully equipped eat-in kitchen, wireless high speed internet, 5 Charter cable TV’s, a laundry room and ample parking. We have air conditioning units in the master and guest bedrooms to cool off the home during the heat of the day.
From the non-smoking estate you can enjoy excellent salmon, trout and steelhead fishing directly down below the house which is generally best between August and October, however, trout can be caught all year. Along the private path to the fishing hole there is a private wood patio viewing deck with patio chairs for your use to read a book or just to gaze at the river. You can also hire a fishing guide for some drift boat fishing, raft the river at your own pace or take the Hellgate River Cruise for more adventure. The house is on a good steelhead fishing hole right in front. You will see fishing guides bringing their clients in drift boats in front of the house, a tell tale sign you are at a good fishing spot. A reef in front of the house allows you to walk out into the river about 30 feet. No need for a boat! A private hiking path along the river allows you to explore our section of the Rogue River and you can comfortably walk for 4 miles along the rivers edge without seeing a car. This path is a very easy stroll and beautiful. You will feel like you are a million miles away but only five minutes to fantastic shops, supplies, restaurants and attractions in Grants Pass. This home is a great base camp from which to explore the wonderful attractions that abound in southern Oregon.
Day trips would include a visit to Crater Lake, river fishing, river raft trips (which are great fun), Ashland, Grants Pass, the Oregon Coast, the Giant Redwood Forest, the town of Jacksonville, the Oregon caves, great restaurants and wine tasting in the wine country nearby.
We provide one small ice chest and one large ice chest for your use for day trips and food shopping. Walmart, Fred Meyer and Safeway stores are within 10 minutes from the house. Arrive at the house, pick up the ice chest and make a quick run to the store for supplies and you are ready to enjoy and relax at the Rogue River House. Check in is 3 pm and checkout is 11am. This allows time to clean our home thoroughly between guests.
If parents wish to have small children sleep in the master bedroom please let us know and we will set up a spot in advance. We have comfortable blow-up beds with full sheets, pillows and blankets and ample room to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We just need to move a few small pieces of furniture to get it set up.
A visit to The Rogue River House will be a vacation experience of a lifetime that you and your family will never forget. We invite you to review our guest comments.
My wife & I have traveled extensively over the years and had the opportunity to visit some very good friends that moved up to Merlin, Oregon (just west of Grants Pass) a few years back. We so enjoyed the scenery, the Rogue River and the area that we wanted to make it our permanent home. We looked around and found a wonderful 2.5 acre estate fronting on the Rogue River with all of the ambiance and privacy that we desired along with direct private access to the River, all nestled within towering pine trees. What a place!! This is our permanent “vacation home”. We still travel extensively during the summer and wanted a home that we could open up to guests during the summer when we are away. If we can answer any questions that may assist you in choosing your next vacation opportunity, please feel free to contact us. You can find our contact info on the contact information section of this site. Please enjoy your stay here at the Rogue River House. We know we do!!
Sue Laret purchased this estate in 2014
Once we had the opportunity to visit the coastal and inland portions of southern Oregon, we knew this was the area we wanted to make our home. Grants Pass lies just east of the “Wild” sections of the Rogue River and approximately 70 miles east of the coast of southern Oregon. From Grants Pass we have coastal access about 2 hours away, mountains about 1 hour away, and private access to the Rogue River. There is a vast array of activities available within a short travel time. For these reasons, we chose Grants Pass to be our home. We are only 19 miles from the Medford airport, so it makes it easy for travel in and out of town. With just a few hour drive (about 2 hours) we can visit the Northern California/Oregon coast, the Giant Red Wood Forest and Crater Lake to the east. A river rafting trip on the Rogue River is a "must do" experience and is usually the highlight of a vacation.Visiting this area, we realized that there is a large array of fun activities to do in close proximity to our home, and we fell in love with this area of Oregon. This part of Oregon has all the natural wonders that you read about in magazines, however you can easily see all of this yourself with a visit. There is so much to do and see in the immediate area that it is hard to describe it all. The big draw to Grants Pass is the Rogue River, The Rogue River House, and all the activities it has to offer.
Besides the ever-present opportunity to lounge around the pool with a good book and drink of choice, there are untold adventures one can enjoy in southern Oregon. Fishing, rafting, biking and hiking most of which can be done right in front of The Rogue River House. Our large pool is solar heated, surrounded by large decks with ample deck furniture to fully enjoy the pool, the unsurpassed views of the Rogue River and mountains. Our home, The Rogue River House, consists of 3 bedrooms with 3 baths, a cozy living room, a grand dining room, a family room, laundry facilities and a fully equipped kitchen. The Rogue River House will comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests and we have a booster seat and high chair for the little ones. It is rumored that this home was built as a summer house/fishing lodge for a famous movie star in 1939 with upgrades completed through the years including a major remodeling effort in 2008, 2015 and early 2016. This home meshes the old with the modern to create a majestic, comfortable and homey living space that will meet or exceed the needs of our welcomed guests. We surely enjoy our home and all that it has to offer and we know you will too.
My husband and I just celebrated our anniversary by renting this lovely home. It was immaculate, beautifully decorated & updated, and working with Sue and Jason was a breeze. Too cold out to use the pool - that was a shame because it was so sparkling clean & inviting. Sue and her family are clearly proud of the property's history and how inviting their home is to just relax, do projects we brought, cook (best stocked for spices & cookware I've ever seen in a VRBO home), and take photos of the gorgeous view (had a beautiful rainbow with stormy grey clouds behind it on our last morning). We had a great time exploring the area too - took Sue's advice of the River's Edge for our anniversary dinner (delicious & gorgeous food, and not too pricey by Bay Area standards), did the Wildlife Safari drive & had a blast (saving the wildlife rescue place for our next trip), won at the Seven Feathers casino (and immediately went home), and had little magical moments every day (like having a guy pull into the scenery viewing area & start playing his ukulele, nicely!). Stay here. You'll love it.
This home is just as is described and shown in the photographs. My family loved our time in this home. It was spacious, clean, wonderfully decorated, and classy. We spent a great deal of time in the pool, and in the wonderful space in the backyard/patio/pool area.
I am especially grateful to Jason, the owner's son who manages the property. We had a chance to meet him, and he was welcoming and exceedingly pleasant. Most importantly though, I left my wedding ring in the rental home. When I arrived home, I realized I had left my wedding ring in the rental house. I texted Jason, and he got right back to me. He went into the home, found my ring, and mailed it back to me. It is hard to put a price on that kind of service and character.
I highly recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in the Grants Pass area. And if you see Jason, please thank him again for me! :-)
This place has it all. The caretaker/son as well as Sue are very attentive yet private. The beds and bedding are delightful. The kitchen has more gadgets than my own! Fun to cook in. Inside the house we all had room to spread out or gather together. The bbq by the pool is delightful on a warm afternoon and evening. The kid cave in the basement brought so much joy for all of us. Our 4 grandkids range in age from 8-12. They loved having their own space and entrance. The pool is marvelous - over 7' deep. So many sun umbrellas too! Able to tire the kids out everyday! We will definitely be back again.
This home met all our expectations. We were a group of 6 and slept upstairs comfortably (including sightings of Clark's ghost LOL). We enjoyed the comfort, ease and beauty of the home, indoors and outdoors. Each time we entered a room, we saw something new! We loved all the art and decor, especially the glassware. The air hideaway couch was wonderful and very very easy to use. We enjoyed many hours swimming in the pool, playing games at the dining room table and hiking the river trail. We loved the feeling of seclusion and views. One of the highlights was visiting the Glass Forge in Grants Pass. Thank you Jason for the opportunity to make our own projects. Wow, what an experience.
We loved our stay at the Rogue River House. We started our vacation by camping at Crater Lake and ended it by camping at the Redwood National Forest. In between we had our luxury stay at the RRH. Our three boys loved the pool and spent hours there. The home is fully furnished and tastefully decorated! They have a caretaker who lives on the property, but I don't think we ever had to ask him for anything. While at the house, we went Ashland to check out the Shakespeare festival (40 minutes away). We also went to Cave Junction to the Cave Monument (60 minutes away) which is worth doing once.
One thing to keep in mind if you have younger children: The third bedroom is in the basement and is well removed from the other bedrooms. This wasn't a problem for us. Our 12 & 14 year old liked their own space and own TV, but I don't think it would work well for kids who are not school age.
If we end up in the area again, this is where we will stay! Very nice! Excellent customer service! Great facility in the midst of plenty to do.
Don't even know where to begin....the house is amazing, comfortable, lots of great family areas, fantastic kitchen, the master suite to die for with a gorgeous bathroom! Then there's the pool with that amazing view of the river and we spotted the resident bald eagle several times. Amazing personal touches like the note and bottle of wine that greeted us, not to mention a very friendly and helpful caretaker/son who was really kind. We hope to make it an annual trip!
