2600 square foot 'True' ski-in/ski-out Luxury ski home - We've rented places that called themselves ski-in/ski-out and find ourselves disappointed when the owners took liberty with the term. This home is a 'TRUE' ski-in/ski-out home. You can ski down 'Bail Out' trail, ski on the access trail labeled Purcell Woods and ski the back door of the home. And when you want to get back on the slopes, put the skis back on and ski out the neighborhood down to the gondola on a trail next to the road. You NEVER have to take a step except to cross the back door threshold going into the home. You don't have to ski the trees, you don't have to sit down or side step and you don't have to be an expert skier.

Heated floors, tile floors, wood floors, granite countertops, big screen TV with whole house speaker system, XBOX 1 system, washer and dryer, ski to gondola, ski right to the back door, 5 minute walk (or ski) to 5 restaurants, 3 bars, gondola, day lodge, rental shop, lift ticket office, general store, mountain bike trails and horseback riding outfit. Just a short gondola ride to world class Eagles Eye Restaurant. Short chairlift ride to Grizzly Bear refuge. 20 km of groomed Dawn Mountain cross country ski trails are 100 yards from home. The Purcell Woods Ski-in trail goes right behind the home. The home has incredible views of the Columbia and Kicking Horse rivers and the Purcell and Dogtooth mountain ranges through the floor to ceiling windows in the living room.

Kicking Horse Mountain : We love to ski and we love this mountain. The only mountain with better terrain (in our opinion) is Jackson Hole. The only mountain with better snow is Alta. The only place with a better view is Lake Louise. This mountain is the total package. It's huge and always has soft powder somewhere (even in spring). It has bumps, chutes, bowls, trees, glades, cornices, cliffs, terrain parks, back country and even bunny slopes, magic carpets, long meandering blues ('It's a 10' - 10 km long). We take several ski trips a year all over the US and Canada and chose Kicking Horse because it is the total package. Come try it (again) and we think you'll agree.

Golden Golf and Country Club: The Golden Golf Club is just 7 km away from the home on the main road to the house. It offers one of the most enjoyable golfing experiences you will find in Canada. The natural beauty of the Columbia Valley, makes the golf course an instant classic. Architects Bill Newis and Les Furber have done some of their best work in sculpting this fun, but challenging layout. The stunning Rocky, and Purcell mountains are uniquely framed, and each hole tells a great story.

It was exactly the destination we were hoping for.

  • 4 of 5

The heat wave and lack of air conditioning meant the home was quite warm most of the stay. The kitchen didn't have wine glasses, so we had to purchase our own. Deck chairs or patio furniture could be improved from just stacking plastic chairs. The views and location were incredible and the house is lovely.

Owner's Response: Hi Stephanie, so glad you enjoyed Golden. I sincerely apologize for the lack of wine glasses. During your next stay please feel free to contact us if anything is missing. We have boxes of wine glasses in storage to bring out when they get broken. Great feedback on the deck furniture. Gabriel Higham

I would have rated this place 4.5 if I could

  • 5 of 5

We have returned to this place for 3 consecutive years. This chalet is spacious and has a great master suite. It has a very nice fire pit area in the back that can be used to play croquet although the difficulty is challenging on the uneven ground. The hot tub is also a draw with a mountain view.

Upon returning to this house this year, we quickly realized the house is starting show signs of wear and tear. The kitchen tap was the biggest indicator. Although functional, it was wobbly and awkward to use. Automatically, I decided to give it a quick look to fix it, but it was rigged up in an odd way from below, which meant there wasn't an easy opportunity to fix the tap. The stereo had speaker wire issues which meant it would cut out at random, sometimes inconveniently leaving us to quickly dry off from the hot tub to run inside to turn the incredibly challenging to operate stereo back on. To elaborate on the stereo further, the instructions to operate the stereo are basically useless. All u got to do is press the blue button on Bluetooth adapter and connect, then press the top left button on the amp called zone 2. If it says check speaker wires, then zone 2 is on. I know, confusing right? And that was only step one, next press the bottom input buttons until it says VAux, then turn the volume up. Make sure the speaker volume on the wall is turned up too. If the amp shuts off, it's cause of the shottie wiring so just turn the amp back on only pressing the button to the left of zone 2 after zone 2 is on until it reads VAux then turn up the volume. So despite these details, I would say this chalet is the best bang for your buck. It was an amazing experience again this year!

Owner's Response: Hi Ken, So sorry to hear about the issues. We had the plumber out immediately after your stay to take care of the faucet. We will have to debug the stereo system as we haven't seen the issue where it is going out sometimes but we'll work to fix it. So glad that it was still a wonderful stay in spite of the two issues. Rest assured they will be taken care of before your next stay. Gabriel
