This Capitol Hill rowhouse was updated in 2007 and has new hardwood floors, two and half bedrooms, one and half bathrooms, and is 1.5 blocks from a major grocery store (There are two grocery stores on Capitol Hill and both are very close to my house). The home has stainless steel appliances, wifi, forced air and Air Condition, a back yard patio and front yard. The neighborhood is safe and a pretzel bakery and cupcake shop are on my block.
The house has two main bedrooms which each have a queen bed (2 queen beds total). There is a single sleeper pull-out couch in the office/side room to one of the main bedrooms, a down couch for sleeping, and a a single pull-out sleeper ottoman.
Parking is available on the street, however, I need to secure a residential parking permit for you. For the time it takes me I charge a $25 fee. Day of requests are $35.
I have a graduate degree from a leading university, love the city and the mountains, and am professional, present, aware, and helpful. I was born in New York City, raised near the city, went to college in Burlington, VT and graduate school in New Haven, CT and lived in Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and took many trips to San Fran for business and beyond. I currently have clients in my day job in Colombia, Hawaii, Florida, New Mexico and beyond. I welcome people from ALL nations, ALL religions, ALL family types, in different stages of their life (students, newlyweds, professionals, travelers, retirees, etc) and/or travelling with relatives, friends, spouses, kids, relationships etc!
My style of hosting is I leave the house the way I would want to find a place to stay when I am traveling. I care a lot about details.I want my guests to be happy and comfortable above all else.
The upfront cash-flow allows me to take bigger risks when choosing to work with new start-ups in the environmental market place.
After a year of hosting, I have dealt with almost every situation you can imagine. Every day so far, I still feel like it is a tremendous opportunity and a gift. I do not take your choice to stay with me for granted.
I am very open person and love hosting people of different cultures, subcultures, religions, ethnicities, gender, family types, traditional and untraditional partnerships etc. I've taken two college semesters of American Sign Language (ASL) and can finger spell pretty well mixing in more traditonal ASL. Gallaudet University students, alumni and family are welcome. I consider it an honor and a delight to host you plus your friends, partners, your professional service animals, and family in my home. Thank you!
Tiffany McCormick Potter purchased this house in 2007
This property is only 15 blocks from the US Capitol. It is 3.5 blocks (7 minutes walking) from a metro station which sits on three major metro lines (Silver, Blue, and Orange). Union Station is less than 10 minutes away and DCA Reagan International Airport is only 15 minutes away. The house is on a charming block with a cupcake and pretzel shop around the corner and a major grocery store--Safeway only one and a half blocks away.
The house is fifteen blocks from the US Capitol (20 minutes walking) and three and half blocks (six minutes to the metro)! It's a charming home that was fully updated in 2007. There is a small garden in front and patio in the back. There are there 2.5 bedrooms with comfortable beds and beautiful hardwood floors. You cannot beat the location!
Tiffany was very easy to work with and timely in her replies to our queries. She worked with us on our late check-in and early check-out. Snacks were provided on our first day and she was cognizant of the fact that my two teenage boys had severe nut allergies. There were even fresh flowers to welcome us. The metro cards were a thoughtful gesture and we used it a couple of times by adding $ to it. The parking permit she secured for us for a very reasonable one-time fee was awesome - we just parked our van in front of her house for the most part and used Uber - it was very convenient and probably comparable to taking the Metro. The pretzel bakery was a hit with our family - breakfast there and then dinner with pretzel bread calzones fresh hot off the oven - they had drinks and coffee (hot and cold) too. We already expected the place to be small being in the Capitol area but it was charming and really we had enough room. Our two teenage boys ( 14 and 16) did not want to share a bed so the 1/2 room worked perfectly. The 1.5 bath was nice with the four of us. Being on the second floor, the bedrooms tended to be warm in the evenings but the ceiling fans helped and there was an a/c unit in the front room in addition to the central a/c. It was hard for me to get up in the bed but only because I am short. A step-stool would have been nice. I am assuming it was also her residence since she had a lot of personal items in the rooms and bathroom but she did clear a chest of drawers which was sufficient for us. Though some of the towels were older, it was clean but some may consider not fit for visiting guests. I only cooked once and I had to scrub the pans hard from whoever used it last. I liked that she recycles, even the compost. The neighborhood felt very safe and well-lit at night and the neighbors friendly. Some of the fixtures were loose (kitchen sink and toilet seat) but Tiffany was appreciative with us telling her. She also gave us her number to use at the grocery to save some money and the savings were substantial. We also got our deposit back less than a week after we got back. Considering it was her home, there was quite a bit of contents in her refrigerator, some quite old - though i am sure the same can be said of my own at home! She said we were welcome to use the condiments and spices and pots and pans for cooking. But we were gone most of the day and exhausted at night. The beds were comfortable enough. We would come back. Thank you, Tiff!
My family of six (four adults and two 17/18 year olds) arrived on a Thursday evening and stayed through Sunday afternoon. The house is in a cute neighborhood of row houses, very conveniently located to a big grocery store (1.5 blocks) and within easy walking to the Stadium Armory metro station (5 blocks). The house is older as per the area, but well maintained. Things were comfortable and felt like a family home. Of all our previous rentals, this was the first home that was actually a residence. There wasn't a lot of storage space because this is actually Tiffany's home, and that was an adjustment for us. But Tiffany was very gracious about renting her home to us for our visit to D.C., and we enjoyed it.
The only things that were a negative for our group was that we couldn't use either of the televisions. Neither are newer, so they weren't able to be hooked up to anything like an X-Box. The downstairs tv has a 400 dvd player hooked up to it, but its not possible to see the names of the dvds, so it made it very cumbersome to use.
We would recommend contacting Tiffany for a good place to stay in D.C. Enjoy!
We liked that it was a unique place to stay and was within walking distance to the Metro, grocery store, and the Pretzel Bakery. We were uncomfortable with the amount of personal items out, not leaving much room for our things in the bathroom or a place for suitcases. The other places we've stayed were in better repair, faucet secured to sink, handle on microwave, etc. Tiff was very helpful with all of our questions.
I'll preface this review by saying that I'd probably stay here again, and you should definitely keep it on your list of options to continue considering...
Tiffany is very nice (provided cookies & fresh flowers upon checkin; followed by another round of both half way through the week).
The location is quite convenient to the Potomoc Ave. METRO station (~4 blocks away maybe?...not far at all...easy ~5 minute walk). There is a nearby playground/school/ball field about a block away which was good for the kids. The nearest grocery store is just past the school another block...and there's another grocery (much better one IMHO) not that much further away next to the subway station. Parking for the property is on the street and always seemed available.
The prior reviews are spot-on about this place needing a deep clean and being crammed full with waaaay too much furniture. It is probably ~1,000 sqft townhome with ~700 sqft of that covered up by old/dated (not antique) furniture. So much so that there were not many places to even put a suitcase or hang clothes. Also, maybe I'm a VRBO rookie, but I was not expecting it to be what appears to be Tiffany's actual year-round house. She didn't stay with us that week, mind you, but it is full of her stuff in the bathroom cabinet, food in the fridge/cabinets, clothes & stuff in the closets, drawers, under the beds/couches/tables and on the back patio. Maybe that's fine for some. and I'm not saying its bad either, I just wasn't expecting it -- so I figured I'd let you know too so you would expect it.
In the property description and after talking with Tiff, I still wasn't sure what a "half bedroom" was...till I saw it. Half is generous....but since it was my cave-dwelling-teenager staying in it, it was fine. If you are planning to cook there, there is fullsize stove top range + oven and large fridge/freezer to hold everything. Be advised that there is no toaster oven though and the microwave has no handle to easily open it with. The pots/pans are definitely in need of replacement and there aren't really enough dishes to go around. But for me, the kitchen was a non-issue since we weren't planning to cook anything fancier than frozen pizzas and fish sticks anyway...
Our family of 6 had a great trip. The owner was a wonderful host and provided city tips, parking pass, metro cards, treats. The location was ideal for our kids: friendly neighborhood, near the metro, around the corner from a grocery store, a playground and best of all the Pretzel Bakery! We found parking directly in front of the house. This historic rowhouse had real charm. There were games for our kids and the place was warmly decorated. All slept well. One suggestion would be to provide (or recommend that families with little kids bring) a stairway barricade. Our 2 1/2 year old was drawn to these fairly steep winders. We hope to return some day in the future. Thanks Tiffany!
Tiffany was great to work with and very accommodating. We couldn't have asked for a nicer person. I think I will rate with pros and cons.
PROS Good location - close to grocery store, few blocks from the Metro
Very little noise in the area..felt safe.
Comfortable mattress in front bedroom.
Few blocks to the East Market
Very easy to book and communicate with owner
Quick on getting our deposit back to us.
CONS Water very slow to drain in bathtub
Faucet in Kitchen needed repaired
AC doesn't reach the upstairs bedrooms
Needs to have a really good cleaning company come in
Extremely steep stairs
We did have a very good time and you can't beat the location and price. I think it could really be nice with so tender, loving care.
