Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

5 BR, 4 BA with large patio, fire pit, and private dock on the Little Red River

Nestled on the banks of the Little Red River in the foothills of the beautiful Ozark Mountains sits JJ's Riverhouse. The ‘Little Red’ is one of the best tail-water trout fisheries in North America and is home to the 40+ pound world record brown trout, caught in 1992. This home is perfectly situated for your relaxing vacation, located between Cow Shoals public access and Jon’s Pocket, a local favorite. JJ's Riverhouse provides easy access to Heber Springs and Greers Ferry Lake, just seven miles away.

With 300 feet of riverfront and a private dock with boat slip, access to the river is just a short walk out the back door. A large patio provides river views where you can see trout feeding and also observe local wildlife such as deer, turkey, fox, heron, eagles, ducks, geese, and osprey. Fish from the dock, the bank, or just wade in when the water’s down.

JJ’s Riverhouse is a 2550 sq. ft., five bedroom, four bath home that comfortably sleeps 12. It is a fully equipped and furnished home including Wi-Fi, high-speed Internet, and cable TV with landscaped gardens and a large front and side yard perfect for outdoor activities.

Local Highlights include:

The Little Red River is a premier trout fishing tail-water that flows from Greers Ferry Lake. Brown trout are considered native here, since they were stocked in the 1960s and propagate on their own. Rainbows are stocked but thrive here, with fish of 10 pounds and up not uncommon. This is a fly fisher’s paradise with plenty of wade fishing waters. Local fishing guides and outdoor outfitters can provide you with the fishing experience of a lifetime, whether on the river or on the lake.

Greers Ferry Lake is a 30,000 acre, clear water lake from which world record walleye are taken. The lake is a playground for all kinds of water sports. Dam Site Park/Marina is located just eight miles away and provides boats, party barges, tubes, jet skis, and other rentals for enjoying the lake.

The Greers Ferry area is the home of dozens of wintering bald eagles. Across the river, Magness Lake is home to wintering Trumpeter Swans which can be heard on the back patio. For hiking enthusiasts, Sugarloaf Mountain trails are located just five miles away.

JJ’s Riverhouse is the perfect vacation home with plenty to do all year long in this beautiful Ozark Mountain setting.

About Ruth Landers

The owners live in Arkansas and love the outdoors, spending the majority of their time farming, fishing, and exploring the state's natural beauty. Having widely travelled and stayed in many vacation rental homes, it is our desire to make our riverhouse a comfortable and inviting retreat for the length of your stay.

Ruth Landers purchased this house in 2016

Why Ruth Landers chose Heber Springs

We bought this home because of its unique and secluded location on a great stretch of the river. It is an ideal place to relax, enjoy the local wildlife, and trout fish.

What makes this house unique

This is a quiet setting and neighborhood with lots of outdoor activities: trout, bass, walleye fishing; boating, water skiing, tubing, jet skiing, kayaking, hiking.

Beautiful house, well maintained and stocked with supplies.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family vacation at JJ's River House. The house and property are beautiful and well maintained. The furnishings are classy and the beds are comfortable. The house was very well stocked with all the kitchen supplies we needed as well as plenty of towels. Thanks for helping us have a great vacation! We sure hope we can return to this house again. The 11 of us could think of only one improvement to suggest which is to change the faucet in the front bathroom sink with one that reaches further out over the edge of the bowl. We also noticed that the middle step of the front porch has a loose brick. We loved sitting on the patio and on the dock, fishing, and watching the geese catch a ride on the river when water was let out of the dam. JJ's River House was the perfect place for our vacation.

Quiet and Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

JJ's Riverhouse is a quiet sanctuary of Little Red River beauty that is nestled on the banks with room to spread your wings. This property is away from the crowd but conveniently located to town. The home is spacious and accommodated our 7 adults with plenty of room to spare. The property is very clean and well maintained. Being on the river and having access to a private dock allowed for quiet moments and hopeful fishing opportunities.

The service and response from the property manager was exceptional. We experienced a little kitchen plumbing issue which was taken care of with prompt communication and quick action. Things are bound to happen and it was nice to get resolution without excuses and delays :) Bravo Ruth!!

This place is spectacular but I could not give a 5 star rating for a couple of reasons. The first reason is property must be extra careful when passing through the laundry area that separates the kitchen/pantry from the 2 rooms off the carport. The flooring is raised in the center with step down landings at each door (carport & back yard). Because they used the same tiles at both levels (raised and landings) it is very easy to miss your step, as two members of our group did, which creates a bit of a trip hazard. Being our first time to the river, we quickly learned that the dam releases water from the lake (every afternoon during our stay 7/29 - 8/03) which increases the depth and speed of the river. During our stay the amount of water being released made it difficult to fish from the dock in the late afternoons and early evenings. This was the most disappointing aspect of the trip because the location is so beautiful and our group loves to fish. Also, one should know that the house is located in a section of the river that will not allow you to bring a rented fishing boat to the dock.

Even with that being said.....this home is special. If you are looking for a quiet retreat where you can relax and watch the river roll by then this is truly the place for you!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and comments John. The water release from the dam varies and the U.S, Corps of Engineers posts this on the website as highlighted in the folder, and it helps guide the best fishing times. Sometimes the water flows in the evening and other times it does not. It just depends on when they are generating. Lots of fish have been caught off the dock and so I'm sorry you did not get to experience this. Thank you for your concerns regarding the indoor steps. We will attempt to find a way to correct this.

Gorgeous Views, family-friendly, pet friendly river house

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place to spend a weekend with our extended family. We loved the location on the little Red River. You could walk out the back door onto a huge deck with outside dining tables and chairs and take a private path or steps down to the boat dock. Our first night we sat on the dock and enjoyed the sunset as the fog rose from the river. It was amazing and so were our photos!

The kids had a great time fishing from the dock the next morning even though they didn't catch anything and then we went to the Marina at Greer's Ferry to rent a boat for the day. The house is only 15 mins from the Marina so was as convenient as staying at a house on the lake. After returning the boat to the marina late that afternoon we were fortunate enough to catch a "Rock the Dock" concert at the Marina. Dam Site Marina even let us stay on the boat for a couple of hours to listen to the music even though our our rental time was over

Back at the house, we used the gas grill to cook out and the kids made s'mores while sitting around the fire pit. The owners provided plenty of wood near the pit so you didn't have to bring any with you.

The house itself was very nice and the layout was perfect for us. So many rental houses have half of the bedrooms furnished with queen or king size beds and the other half with twin beds or bunkbeds, but this house had one bedroom with bunkbeds and a queen bed and the lower bed was a full size bed. The other four bedrooms were furnished with either a king or queen size bed which was perfect for the adult couples

This house is the complete package: amazing design, comfortable, well appointed, clean and with an incredible view. We hope to make this an annual trip and will definitely plan to stay here
