Enjoy the comfort of our remodeled and tastefully decorated one-bedroom, one bath condominium. Imagine being 75 steps from a mile long golden sand beach on the east shore of Kauai. From your private lanai with unobstructed views of the pacific ocean, you can watch the incredible sunrises and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean.

Our condominium is a Non-Smoking corner unit on the 2nd floor that has been completely remodeled. Custom-made cherry cabinets and granite counter tops have been installed in our fully equipped kitchen. Porcelain tiles grace the entry, bathroom and kitchen areas. The bathroom has a large tiled walk-in shower.

Besides the new additions, the condo comes with all the amenities listed above. Added amenities include FREE SECURE WiFi internet connection, HD TV with On-demand, beach toys, chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, and tennis rackets for your use during your staying at our condominium.

The Pono Kai resort is a non-smoking property. The resort provides a front desk that is open 24 hours a day. There is onsite free parking. Each building has a coin-operated laundry facility and an elevator. The grounds are beautifully maintained with extensive grass areas, herb garden so you can pick fresh herbs for your meals and a Koi pond. For your convenience, there is an activities desk so you can arrange for your island adventures. Each Thursday and Sunday morning a 'tour operator' presentation is hosted at the pool area (highly recommended) and you may even win a two-for-one excursion. A workout room has also been added as well as a 5-mile all-purpose path which follows the coastline just steps outside the resort. There are a pool/spa area and 2 tennis courts and many other on-property activities.

We live in Marin County which is part of the San Francisco bay area. My husband & I are semi-retired. We have 2 grown children and 2 grandsons. We are very lucky to have our children and grandsons close by.

Why Shirley Cooney chose Coconut Coast

The first time we came to Kauai was in 1971. We toured 4 of the islands and fell in love with the 'Garden Isle'.

We had friends who owned a condo at the Pono Kai Resort. We started renting their unit and spending many of our family vacations on Kauai.

We always hoped one day to buy a little piece of paradise. In 2001, our wish came true.

What makes this condo unique

The Pono Kai is centrally located on the east side of the island. This location is great for people who want to explore the island. The resort is conveniently located in the historical town of Kapaa. The condo is in walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The beach and a 5 mile walking/bike path is right out front of our condo.

We've already taken a 1 hour Safari helicopter tour of the Nepali Coast & Waimea Valley & that's been the most exciting time we've had since Colorado. We've driven Southwest & Northwest & Kauai is lovely & pristine.

Your home is warm & welcoming and we're treating it as if it were our own - we're both fussy & clean nuts so everything is being kept clean & tidy.



Your furnishings, pictures and overall color scheme is perfect for this great island. The view from your balcony is so terrific - we watched the sunrise from there & it was delightful.

You will find our condominium at the Pono Kai, in the historic town of Kapaa, on a 12 acre beach front resort centrally located on the east shore in the historic town of Kapaa. We are only 15 minutes (8 miles) from Lihue Airport and shopping and restaurants are within walking distance. The north shore and south shore are approximately 35 minutes away from our location.

Other Activities: Lydgate Park, boogie boarding, restaurants, boating, kite surfing, rafting, shuffleboard, shopping, kayaking, paragliding and golf.

Golf: There are 10 golf courses on Kauai. The closest one to the Pono Kai is the municipal Wailua Golf Course.

The right location for a first time visit to Kauai

Since this was my first time in Kauai, I knew we would be driving to Ke'e Beach and Wiamea and everywhere in between. the location was the obvious choice to explore the island. We watched the sunrise everyday from the lanai. We rented bikes from Hele on Kauai bike rentals 808 822 4628, just steps outside the resort, and rode almost everyday on the bike path. Get the bikes with a rack on the back (ask for bungee cords) and the ice chests in the condo strap on easily. Beautiful scenery and great beaches right along the bike path, my favorite swimming spot was inside the jetty on the north end of Kealia Beach.

The condo is well stocked for the beach, 3 chairs, boogie boards, masks and snorkels. They only had two beach towels, so we bought a couple at Safeway.

Paco's Tacos for tacos, Bubba's Burgers for burgers, Scorpacciata Neapolitan Pizza for pizza and Wialua Shaved Ice were our favorites.

We shopped at Cost u less, Big Save, Safeway, Foodland, Hoku Foods Natural Market and the Wednesday farmers market. They all had something that was better priced than the others and it pays to shop around. We found there was a $20 difference in price on the Koloa rum between Safeway and Foodland. The best local coffee is at Hoku. If you go to the Wed Farmers Market, get there before it opens and scope out what you want, some stuff sells out in the first five minutes.

We got there about 2:45 and there was a group of Filipino women standing around the guy who had mango's. Nothing can be sold until 3 pm Sharp. As it got closer to 3:00 these women made a wall around the table, shoulder to shoulder, no one was going to get through. When the bell rang it's like a fumble in football, women are throwing elbows, pushing each other, shoving and grabbing at everything. As they were fighting with each other I reach between them and snatch a mango off the table. When I go to pay the guy, he says $1 and the women look at my beautiful mango and they say

"$1 !!! How did you get that mango from us!"

AWESOME private condo!

My husband and I stayed in this condo at the end of our trip to Kauai in early September 2017. We chose this condo due to the location and the ocean view. This was our third trip to Kauai and Kapaa is a great location as you can head out to the northern or southern beaches depending on the weather.

The condo itself has a spectacular view of the ocean and because it is a corner unit you can experience the trade winds. We were in one of the units in the same complex earlier in the week and it was not pleasant to sit on the deck.

The inside of the condo is implacably decorated. The kitchen is well equip with anything you need to prepare a meal including cookware and utensils. Appliances are newer and in good condition. The bed was very comfortable and there is a safe to store personal documents. The owners provide beach chairs, an umbrella, coolers, and boogie boards for use which is a great convenience.

The only drawbacks are that the condo only has air conditioning in the bedroom and the week we were there it was very hot and humid. Once the trade winds picked back up it was very pleasant. I prefer no air conditioning anyways except to sleep and the evenings were cooler. The other drawback was that swimming and snorkeling in front of the complex appears to be limited and there is no beach which was a disappointment. However, the walking path being right there more than compensated for that.

We would definitely stay at this condo again and highly recommend it to others!

Great Location for Kauai Vacation!

We loved our stay at this condo. The view from the balcony was great and the condo was very comfortable and perfect for the two of us. We loved the mid-island location which allowed us to travel north to Hanalei in about 35 minutes, and travel south to Poipu in about the same amount of time. The canyon drive was just a bit longer. We hiked two miles on the Kalalua trail, went out on a boat with Na Pali Coast Tours Hanalei (highly recommend, includes snorkeling and trips in and out of some of the caves), went to the Waimea Canyon and hiked the Pihea Trail and spent a day down south. Some of our favorite restaurants were Porky's (a food truck), Verde's, Art Cafe Hemingway, Fresh Bite Kauai (another food truck). We loved walking a few blocks to eat at some of the restaurants in Kapa'a. We also really enjoyed renting bikes one afternoon and biking along the trail behind the condo. The beaches along the trail are just beautiful. This was a great condo and we hope to return one day!

great experience, great location, well kept unit.

my wife and i stayed 2 weeks, the unit was perfect, because we were beachfront we had a perfect sunrise every morning and a perfect fullmoon rise one evening.the location is great, close walking distance to shops and eateries, and centrally located to explore the island which we did every day, hidden beaches, waterfalls, walking trails, jungle drives, even a swimming hole near the arboratum.

we would definetly stay there again, and also recomend to our friends and relatives.

Paradise as promised!

A beautifully decorated condo at a very well maintained resort property. The sunrise ocean view is great! Being centrally located between the North shore and South shore of the island makes it an ideal location from which to explore. Old town Kapaa is just a short stroll away and is very charming. Shirley and Tony are excellent hosts and really care about making your stay be the best it can be. We will be back again to stay in their wonderful island home!
