While living in Europe, I made all of my food from scratch and spent much time in my kitchen preparing food. I would dream that I would have food already half prepared and only need to put in the microwave, press a button, and eat a wonderfully prepared meal in a matter of minutes. In March I was boarding a plane to go to this beautiful country. The all you can eat buffets were absolutely bewildering to me, as I could not figure out how an establishment could possibly profit by allowing people to eat until they dropped. I have attempted the experiment myself on multiple occasions, which had immediately resulted in exponential growth of my thighs. The need to buy new clothing was soon looming on the horizon, as I was unable to fit into any of the garments that I had brought with me from home. In order to battle the rapid expansion program that my body had seemed to embark upon all by itself, I had signed up for a gym membership. Alas, my jogging and cycling rituals did not seem to bring about any sort of buttock reduction despite the fact that I started to monitor my portion sizes. Surprised at just that, I began to read the labels on the food with which I had stocked my pantry. Sugar and syrup were the only things that made sense to me – which is when I started to realize what my grandmother meant by saying that cooking is a science. Apparently, the wise men in lab coats have turned the art of transforming nutrients into lard long before they actually reach the stomach. Skillfully greasing the wheels of food processing, they have made food convenient, yet full of additives that void it of nutritional value. That was precisely the reason why I found myself putting on an apron and getting out the spatulas once again. In Europe, most people speak several languages because of so many diversified cultures. As a result, I speak five languages today.
Alla Wilkins purchased this house in 2006
Bed and Breakfast Award Winner 2009-2010, 2010-2011!
We stayed here for an extended weekend for an event in Dallas. (8 of us in all). Alla was super friendly and energetic and very accommodating. She made sure we were all set up for our stay when we checked in. I'm certain if we would have needed to call on her she would have been there immediately. Fortunately we didn't have any issues with the house so we didn't need to call her for anything.
The house is a little dated and in an older neighborhood but it was in good shape, really clean, and fully equipped and furnished for an extended stay, with 8 people. We were all quite comfortable. It's located in a residential neighborhood about 15-20 min from downtown Dallas and getting back and forth everyday was a breeze. The neighborhood was quiet with little to no through traffic. Which made sitting on the back porch in the mornings and evenings especially nice.
Overall, this was a very nice place to stay. Combined with an exceptional host like Alla, I would highly recommend this property to people on a group trip.
The property was as described. Its in a very nice quiet neighborhood which was a blessing. We were there for our sons wedding and it was so nice to have the family all in one place and be able to come "home" in the evening from all the wedding activities and relax. Alla checked on us during the stay to make sure everything was ok. We'll be staying here again in the future! Thanks Alla for making our wedding weekend stay great!
We received such a warm welcome from Alla and were made to feel like we were her extended family coming for a visit She checked in throughout the week to see if we needed anything, and when we did it was attended to instantly.
Overall a very comfy stay in a nice little village out of town - there's a park a few minutes walk away which is great for kids or a relaxing walk. The area is residential and feels very safe.
