I am a long time resident of Alameda who moved to Alameda after hearing a resident describe Alameda Victorians as “Antiques”. Intrigued by what I heard, I drove to Alameda and began an exploration of what I describe as a “Small beach town with an intriguing history and resplendent Victorian homes”. 35 years later, I am still captivated by Alameda’s small town ambiance and continue to call Alameda my home. I am currently living in one of my 1891 Queen Ann Cottage apartments which I have affectionately named “Neptune Beach Rentals”. I love music, history, art, food, gardening, and genealogy.
Owner purchased this Apartment in 1989
Why Owner chose West Alameda
This property was built in 1891 by A.W. Pattiani, a renowned Alameda Architect who built most of his properties in the Gold Coast, and is listed on Alameda’s Historical list. I believe this property was at one time one home, but it was converted to three apartments during World War 11. It is located in the popular “Neptune Beach District” across the street from what was called the Fifth Street Station – a small train station built in 1906 that served tourists heading to the bathing resorts along Central Ave. The Neptune Beach resort attracted thousands of tourists and became widely known as the “Coney Island of the West”.
What makes this Apartment unique
Neptune Beach Rentals consist of two lovely cottage apartments in a private setting amongst gardens filled with sunlight, flowers and vines. There is a flourishing seasonal organic vegetable garden in raised beds with kale, lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, and strawberries, and a private cottage garden for relaxation and enjoyment. The units are sunny and spacious with 11 ft ceilings, and period fixtures throughout. It's located just 5 minutes from the beach, and 7 minutes from the Alameda Main Street Ferry Terminal. The ferry ride is just 20 minutes to the San Francisco Ferry Terminal.

If you are planning a visit to Alameda, this lovely property is a must-rent!
Cozy, comfortable and in a great location- who could ask for more in Alameda! In a quiet residential area, we were very near to numerous small multicultural coffee houses and restaurants. If you like to walk--the Crab Cove Beach area offers paths along the bay-so beautiful. The Bay ferry dock is not to far away- easy access to San Francisco with it's great public transportation system. Karen, the owner, was on call to answer any questions and offer help if needed. The cottage feel with the lush gardens help to make our trip- a home away from home. Thanks, Karen
Thanks Susan for a wonderful review. It's guests like you that makes being a Host so rewarding! Thank you!
I'm glad you had a chance to visit family and try our restaurants and coffee houses in the area. On your next trip, don't forget to visit Spirits Alley at Alameda Point. St George's Spirits, Hanger One, Faction Brewery are very popular -- and we've got another winery and brewery opening later this fall.
Please keep in mind, if the Beach Cottage is booked, please try the Guest Cottage #193330. I'll be making some updates to it this summer to make sure my Guests have a very comfortable stay!
Susan, you're welcome back any time!
All the best, ,
great place to stay perfect local
the cottage was perfect. had almost everything we wanted. the best part was the bagels, cream cheese, jelly, juice and cream in the fridge. we got in very late and it was very nice to have breakfast for us the next morning and the following days we were there. this was a very charming touch...had never had that before..oh and Karen had also provided us with a delicious bottle of red wine!
I recommend this venue for anyone coming to visit or tour the area.
Thanks Barbara for a great review! I'm so glad you got a chance to spend time with your grandson, and I hope to see you back soon!
Perfect cottage stay
Stayed two weeks in Feb. and enjoyed the location , accommodations , and owner response . Well stocked, comfortable beds, and very clean. Much better than a hotel.
A Beach Cottage with lots of charm and character!
We stayed here during a temporary work assignment. The cottage was spacious, well furnished and had lots of charm. The owner, Karen, was a pleasure to deal with and was always available if anything cropped up. The cottage is located in a quiet residential area and is very close to the main bus route which connects with the BART, close to the ferry terminal to San Francisco and is minutes from the beach. It makes for a great base from which to explore the Bay area. Easy access to Webster Street, restaurants and the local farmers market too. I would definitely recommend this property.
This cottage turned out to be such a relief.
After a lot of searching we found this place to stay while we were in town on business. It is cheerful and cozy and in a great location. Easy access to the Ferry etc. Karen is the best hostess. Very kind and always available if we ever needed anything. We were there for over 4 months and very happy. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for a great review. I really enjoyed hosting you and your lovely family. You're welcome back any time!
