Forbes magazine named North Park as one of the best hipster neighborhoods, noting that culturally diverse North Park is home to Craftsman cottages, cafes and diners, coffee shops, several microbreweries, boutiques, and the North Park Farmers Market. Beer lovers will find numerous brewery tasting rooms and craft brew pubs along 30th street, which Food and Wine Magazine highlighted as a top craft beer destination in 2010. The North Park Theater and the Ray Street Arts District are also bastions of creativity in the area. The Los Angeles Times writes: North Park has all the ingredients for the cool school: culturally diverse and has art galleries, boutiques, trendy bars with handcrafted cocktails and local brews, and foodie-approved eateries.
An eclectic and diverse array of restaurants, as well as independent coffee shops, can be found along the main arteries of 30th Street and University Avenue. The area is also dotted with bars and night clubs that cater to a wide diversity of patrons. Downtown North Park contains the Ray Street Arts District. Ray at Night is a gallery walk held the second Saturday of every month in North Park. It is the largest and longest running art walk in San Diego history. Nearby, the Birch North Park Theatre reopened after major renovations in 2005. It is the home of Lyric Opera San Diego.
North Park has a Farmers Market every Thursday which has been listed as one of the top 40 in the USA. The market is located in the parking lot at University and 32nd Streets. The Spring/Summer hours are 3 pm-sunset, Fall/Winter 2 pm-Sunset. They feature over 35 independent vendors; locally grown produce/flowers; gourmet/ethnic foods; arts and crafts; books; and, often, live music.
Walk a few blocks to restaurants, cafes, golf, community pool, tennis, recreation. 5 minutes to downtown -- Little Italy, The Gas Lamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Convention Center, the famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park and museums, Old Globe Theatre. 10 min to beaches and other major attractions, including Coronado Island and Seaworld.
We LOVED staying at this house!!! Everything about this place was perfect for our family of 6. The kids had a great time reading on the back deck and we all really enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings. Overall we had a great time and loved the home. The only suggestions I have would be to get more comfortable pillows but we had some of our own so we just used those.
The property is pretty much as it is shown in the pictures. It is located in a decent neighborhood in North Park. The supermarket is two blocks away and there are many many restaurants to choose from - either within walking distance (or rent a bike ..there are public rentals) or in minutes by car. You can get pretty much anywhere in San Diego in 30 minutes or less. The outdoor patio and fire pit area are nice places to relax.
I would caution older renters that the tub/shower is old fashioned and has no grab bars or slip guards...use caution getting in and out. The neighborhood is surprisingly quiet. Manager responded quickly to any questions. Would rent here again.
The house inside was very comfortable. Outside was fairly quiet in a busy area. Each room has a nice size. Bathroom was nice. And the kitchen is a fair size for cooking. Pretty much all that was pointed out on list is there. I really can't say anything negative about the place because there isn't anything negative, minus the lack of curtain in the kitchen and the cabinet beneath the sink that opens up on it's own. The reason I'd mentioned those two things is because the next door neighbor can see from the kitchen window right in the very last room near the living room. Minor, But to me is important for the sake of privacy. And the cabinet door that opens up can be a somewhat of a hazard. I had almost bumped my knee on it when it opened up.
I have to give props to the crew. I had planned on leaving Sunday morning. But the people took care of me, making it possible to leave on Monday instead. I haven't and won't forget that. Again. Thanks for your hard work and effort to make that happen. Both my girlfriend and I were happy.
Would I recommend the place? Yes. We plan on renting the place again.
I booked this for two of my colleagues who were attending an event. It was well located for their venue. The house was perfect. Booking and communication were perfect. Would recomend :)
Was here with a friend for a girls getaway. The house is beautiful and cozy and clean. 2 bedrooms with comfortable beds. The bathroom is super tiny but who cares, it was clean...I did recommend they replace the shower head or at least CLR it, it was a bit yucky and we both noticed. The back patio got a ton of use by us, just chillin. We planned to grill but never got around to it. There is a fantastic tree in the front yard you can see in the back yard and all kinds of cool colorful birds hanging out in it. REALLY pretty birds. The neighborhood is probably more interesting than I'd like. I'm a city girl so no big deal but the house is on a fairly busy corner and there were people with "character" walking around all hours. Nothing even remotely threatening happened but, there were some sketchy looking folks. Other wise it seem predominantly middle\working class with lots of adorable little homes. The location was excellent for getting to anywhere you want to go by car. We also walked and found a bunch of excellent restaurants. We went to Torrey Pines for hiking and to San Diego zoo. It's a bit of a hipster neighborhood, which worked out for us since we like some of the same thing (much to old to be a hipster) but we love beer and food and coffee and there were excellent options all around and within short drives. We also used Uber a couple of times when we knew we were going to be drinking and it took less than 2 minutes for them to pick us up. I don't think it would have been a great location without a car, but I don't know.
