Highly recommended!!!

  • 5 of 5

Jean Marie has been an excellent host and a lot of help in getting our accommodation/transport and stay in Lyon as comfortable and convenient as possible. I have lost my phone and Jean Marie was kind enough to offer a phone to help us around. The location was perfect, the apartment was perfect and the chance to live in Lyon like a local was more than perfect!!

Ideal Location, Lovely View of the Rhone, Large Living Area, Nice Bathroom with Shower

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the apartment for three weeks, as well as having some guests stop by, and we couldn't have been happier. First, it can't be overstated how perfectly located this is. We were able to easily walk to pretty much everything you could need or want and the few restaurants that we didn't want to walk to, because of the summer heat and being dressed up, were easily reached with an 8 Euro Uber ride. The Metro is also just around the corner. Additionally, waking up to the spectacular view of the Rhone will make you overlook any of the more "charming" parts of being in an older building. The layout of the apartment is very heavy to the living and dining room side, so there is plenty of room for hanging out and relaxing, dining in or getting in some office work. In general, it has great internet, a very usable kitchen with all sorts of appliances, a washer (no dryer, but there is a drying rack) and all the other conveniences that you would need for an extended stay. The shower is a nice size, which isn't always the case when making the switch from America to France.

The few drawbacks are very minor issues. There is no AC, but it is four floors up, with large windows to the front and in the bedrooms, so it can turn into a mini-wind tunnel. There are also three fans so, even in the middle of summer, we managed to keep cool. If you plan on doing a lot of cooking, you may want to invest in a chef's knife. The knives there were a little rough, but I've found this to be the case in just about every rental we've used in both American and Europe. You aren't going to come home with "Wow, remember how great the mattresses in Lyon were?" stories. I have a bad back and they didn't cause any problems, but we were pretty excited when we headed up to Paris and were back on a hotel mattress. The floors are beautiful, but also squeak like beautiful floors in an older building, if you happen to be a very light sleeper, it might be an issue.

Finally, I would be remiss in not mentioning the host Jean-Marie. He was extremely attentive both before we arrived and with the few questions that came up while we were there. He's a fluent English speaker, which was a concern with our embarrassingly horrible French, and is a very warm and gracious host who was also very patient with our litany of (sometimes overly) particular questions and concerns. We would love to get back to Lyon and would definitely book this apartment again, if available.

Great flat in an amazing location

  • 5 of 5

If you want to be bang in the middle of everything this is a great choice. The flat is Jean Marie's home so more Airbnb then sterile hotel type apartment. We were greeted by the very friendly owner who had left us juice, water, tea, cake etc in the kitchen which was very kind. The bathroom is perfect for sharers as the toilet is separate to the shower. The bedrooms were fine for us but one perhaps a bit small for a longer stay. We were just there two nights and as they come with sliding doors you can hear most things, so go with people you know and love! The kitchen, living room and dining area suited us perfectly and we even played cards one night! We would definitely come back to the apartment and it is an absolutely stunning city, my new favourite actually. If you love food you will love Lyon so go!

Beautiful Centrally Located Flat

  • 5 of 5

This flat was a beautiful 2 bedroom 1 bath flat overlooking the Rhone river in an excellent central location of Lyon. Very comfortable for two couples traveling for a few days. Jean Marie greeted us upon arrival and was incredibly accommodating with maps and restaurant recommendations. Only complaint was that the beds did not have top sheets or pillow cases, but only fitted sheets and duvet covers. Other than that, we loved everything about the flat. Great living and kitchen areas. We would recommend it to our friends and return ourselves!

Great apartment and a very helpful host!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Lyon for 2 nights. Found it very difficult to find accommodation as there was some sort of international food convention on at the time. Luckily for us we found this place!

Jean-Marie was fantastic - he organised for us to be picked up from the train station by an Uber at 8:30pm. Was out the front of the apartment to meet us and take us through the apartment. He had maps and travel books set out to give us an idea of where to go, where to eat, where the supermarket was etc. He also organised for the Uber to take us to the airport two days later.

The apartment itself was lovely - gorgeous view of the Rhone river from the three front windows, kitchen had everything you would need (we only used tea and coffee which was all provided. We ate out the rest of the time). Two double bedrooms which were comfortable and warm which we needed as it was around -10 degrees celcius when we were there. Bathroom was clean, all soaps, shampoo, conditioner etc there. Water pressure not great but adequate. Separate toilet.

In a good, safe part of town. Very quiet at night. Not in the old part of town but a 5 min walk away, and plenty of good restaurants nearby.

Negatives -These were minor and would not stop us from staying again: Have to walk past some smelly bins to get into the apartment complex. No elevator so have to carry luggage up three flights of stairs but this is not much different to anywhere else we stayed in France. Toilet door didn't close properly

Positives - everything else. Jean-Marie went out of his way to help, and everything went smoothly. Thank you Jean-Marie!

comme ci, comme ça

  • 3 of 5

We did not get a passcode of any sort to enter the building. I figured we would have this especially since we noted that we weren't going to have cell phone service, so we couldn't call him once we were there... So we were waiting outside for hours. A kind gentleman who lived in the building let us in and helped us find the place at the third floor. When we knocked, there was a very nice young man waiting there for us this whole time! He was super cool, though he was not the owner. We never met the owner, actually.

We made sure to keep things clean. The fridge had some food in it that was already OPENED and EATEN.. and that was weird. I did like that there was a washer and a tv with a good selection of channels. We were not given any advice in email or message, letter etc on what to do or see in Lyon, but that's okay. Decent stay overall, good from 2 to 4 people to stay.

The closest Métro (subway) station, Cordeliers, is about 100 m from the apartment, on the A Line. Le Jean Moulin, a highly recommended restaurant is less than 50 m from the apartment. All of the chic boutiques of Lyon and the trendy restaurants are all located nearby. The nearby amenities include Monoprix, a large department store; a modern bazaar where you can find food, drink, and clothes.
