The top floor of the chateau includes 3 bedrooms, a home theater room, and 2 bathrooms. Each of the bedrooms has a California King size bed. The home theater room has a large L shaped couch, a rollout bed, and a double size bed. It accommodate 10 people. Stunning views exist from each room, with the most stunning being from 'La Chambre Bleue' (blue room), which has a balcony. Shared access to main kitchen with the owner, family room, and dining areas and full access to porches on main floor. All have amazing views of the Chateau surroundings, that include vineyards, a golf course, and most amazing sunsets. Walkways to an open lookout point 'tagged: paradise' with music piped to the area, provide phenomenal views and a guaranteed memorable experience. Dining is available in three areas of the house including under the turret for those nice warm nights. For parties less than or equal to four that don't need the whole top floor, that only need one or two rooms (blue & red rooms), the owner will reduce the price per day, so please specify how many people are in your party when you make the inquiry. Please be aware so that there is no confusion; the owner does live in the house on the main floor, but will gladly accommodate the privacy or socializing requirements of the guests. As you solicit for the stay, the owner would appreciate also knowing the purpose of your stay, so that he can best prepare to host you.
The location is in Sonora, the heart of the California gold country, with easy daily commutes to Yosemite National Park, Dodge Ridge for Skiing, Pinecrest Lake for boating and fishing, and numerous other parks like Kennedy Meadows, Big Trees, in addition to much of the Sierra Foothills wine country.
Come and experience what Chateau like is like away from the city. You will see what $2 million can buy you (and you can bid on it if you ware interested); In the bay area, you can buy nothing but a tiny house on a busy street for that money. In today's world you can work remote, so why not live like I do, in such a paradise.
I have custom built Chateau St. George as it is my dream home, and it is designed after French Provence style, so you will feel as if you are visiting the best of Provence or Tuscany. I am fluent in French also, and enjoy listening to a variety of cultured music, ranging from French to Opera, and some nice sultry music and fun rock in between. I enjoy hosting, as I am well traveled. I am a wine maker also, and can discuss wine making techniques with preparing dinner and wine pairing it with a variety of wines at market cost including Chateau St George Petite Syrah.
George Serhan purchased this chateau / country house in 2004
I have designed Chateau St. George and built it completing it in 2004. It has a vineyard also, where I make wine. It is a destination in its own right. The views are stunning; the property is fenced, so it is totally secure. It is totally a quiet area other than listening to the country sounds like birds chirping, or the music playing. It is close to everything; the grocery stores are only 5mn away; yet it is totally secluded. Skiing is only 40mn away at Dodge. Yosemite is an hr and half away.
Amazing views and amenities and easy access to popular destinations in the Sierras; the Chateau is custom built, and it is really high end. It is very comfortable, and has views from every room. My friends when they visit, simply call it: 'paradise'. To experience it you have to visit it. It is the ideal venue for a family retreat, as the Chateau design is charming and Provence like... very charming in all its details. In addition, dining and wine matching are key options that the host is willing to prepare on some occasions.
We stayed at chateau George for 1 night and 2 days and we just loved it!! Sunset view is spectacular !! and A Very warm welcome by host and he will make you feel so comfortable. If we are going to Yosemite again then definitely this will be our choice again ! House was really impressive.. What I loved the most about house is the outdoor sitting with music and such a peaceful place.. You can spend hours and hours !! Thank you George for such a warm welcome and good memories!!
A beautiful home with lovely views and a very very warm host! It is a quaint little Parisian getaway not too far from the busy bay. Very tastefully decorated house that is literally filled with music and wine- it has a little vineyard from where the grapes journey to wine in the barrels down in the wine cellar at the basement. Our very warm and friendly host gave us a lovely walkthrough of the entire wine making process. He makes you feel at home with ease and blends in to become a part of your party.
We stayed there with friends and had 5 little kids who were little balls of endless energy! They had a lovely time and a huge thank you to the host for being so patient with them. The location is very convenient to ski at the Dodge ridge resort. Though I would recommend this more for an adult getaway, so you get to relax and soak in the tranquil home and enjoy your wine while dining in the charming Sonora downtown.
Our stay was so wonderful! We had a large group with a few small children that were able to comfortably meet for Christmas in Sonora. Our host, George was very welcoming and accommodating. He was an excellent host and truly made our stay very memorable. George was ready and willing to offer tips about the surrounding area and was very helpful in the kitchen! The home was set up especially for our family and had plenty of space and privacy for each couple. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of linens and towels. There were beautiful Christmas decorations and we were able to easily socialize and play games in the many open living spaces. It was nice to be able to walk around the property and around the neighborhood with amazing views. We feel as if we really lucked out not only with the property but also with our host George. He was the best!! We hope to make it back to visit Yosemite in the future.
We (me, my husband & my niece) were looking forward to staying at Chateau St George & on arrival, after a long day and the drive from Yosemite, George's greeting & welcome was like that of a friend. George was immediately a wonderful host, showed us upstairs with a wonderful view from the master bedroom. We then went onto the verandah to to a beautiful sunset & then to his wine cellar, wow! We had wine & nibbles whilst we chat with George as he prepared dinner.
I was very mpressed by George's thoughtfulness & provision for my wheat & dairy intolerance. Dinner was very much like being at a dinner party hosted by a friend. My steak was good beautifully and was complimented by the excellent Chateau St George Petite Sirah. George is a great host, considerate of the needs of others and enabled us to enjoy two nights in his beautiful home.
I would recommend Chateau St George & would love to return.
Chateau St. George and especially our wonderful host, George, will always be very memorable for all of us. We had 5 adults and 3 children in our family group. We all felt very comfortable in the top floor rooms and enjoyed all of the chateau that was made available to us. We all will have special memories of paradise point and the beautiful sunsets. The views from many areas in and around the chateau are beautiful. George is such a wonderful host. We enjoyed wine, delicious breakfasts, fantastic homemade banana bread, pear tarts and lots of other goodies. We enjoyed our first nights dinner in the wonderful wine cellar. One night we sat out on the turret deck with beautiful views and music and a wonderful visit with George. We could not have asked for anything more. George made sure we were all enjoying ourselves and made us feel very much at home. We felt like we were leaving a member of our family when we had to say goodbye. We look forward to visiting George and his chateau again. We definitely recommend this beautiful Sonora paradise.
After traveling for 2 long days, we arrived at Chateau St. George. George could not have been more welcoming to to my husband and me, along with our 5 children/friends that range from 20-24 years old. He was very generous in hosting a wine welcoming party in his extraordinary wine cellar! The top floor of the Chateau was very large, and more than comfortable for the 7 of us, and well as the entire Chateau was ours to use and enjoy. The view from the master bedroom was magnificent! In the morning, we woke to the smell of homemade banana-fruit bread baking for breakfast--delicious, before leaving for a long day of hiking/sight seeing in Yosemite. We arrived back to the Chateau late that evening to a fabulous candlelight dinner on the veranda, complimented by wine and fresh pear tarts! It was a wonderful dinner spent listening to music, tasting the 2015 Chateau St George Petite Sirah, and chatting with George and his friend! George could not have been more thoughtful and generous, as well as recommending activities that made our next 2 days of vacation more than perfect! We would absolutely recommend Chateau St George!
Most guests generally like to drive up to Yosemite National Park, or go skiing at Dodge Ridge, Hiking around Pinecrest Lake, or do wine tasting locally, including at the home, or towards Murphy's and Sutter Creek, in the Gold Country. But Chateau St. George is a destination of its own, as the chateau has its own vineyard from which the owner makes his own wine; the views are totally amazing as well, and are around 270 degrees.
