Although I currently live in Houston, Marfa will always be called 'home'. I attended elementary and junior high school in Marfa. Our family took frequent trips to Big Bend, Presidio and Ojinaga. On several occasions, we viewed the lights, visited the Mc Donald Observatory and Indian Lodge. I have many happy memories of Marfa, especially the friendly people and the delicious Mexican food.
Virginia Platt purchased this house in 1973
Mi Casita(my tiny home) has been in my family since 1973 and has served as a home for several tenants during the past 40 years. A couple of years ago, I decided to remodel it and use it as a vacation home for family and friends. I travel from Houston three or four times during the year to enjoy the beautiful weather Marfa offers and catch up with old friends.
The uniqueness about this property is that the inside buildout was performed by three women, my sister-a USDA inspector, my friend-a school teacher and me-a banker. Before each phase, we sat around and watched You Tube videos. I have a true appreciation for contractors and carpenters after this project. I am in love with Mi Casita.
As my guests, I hope that you feel that this is your home also.
We loved staying in Mi Casita. Virginia is a gracious hostess. The home was perfect for the two of us, and our dogs loved the yard! They also appreciated the toys she left for them. Marfa is a great spot to stay in order to see Fort Davis and Big Bend in one trip!
Great, clean, comfortable, well-appointed casita with all the amenities and supplies provided. A large private & fenced backyard that was also very accommodating with a covered patio and comfy chairs in the yard to enjoy a beverage and star-gaze.....even 2 cruiser bicycles (that we didn't get a chance to ride during our short stay.) Very comfy mattress and CD player loaded with CD's! Though I was expecting the town of Marfa to more than it was (low season), this home definitely met our expectations! The owner Virginia was so thoughtful to have welcomed us (remotely) with a bottle of wine, dog toy and detailed information on the local restaurants and attractions! That personal touch goes a long way. Thank you again, Virginia! We will certainly recommend to friends and hope to return soon!
My fiancé and I (and our dog!) greatly enjoyed our stay at the casita. Virginia left a great welcome bag with info about Marfa and even a toy for our pup (she loved it). We cooked Thanksgiving dinner for the two of us, explored the town, and spent a day in Big Bend during our stay. The house was perfect for the three of us, and the yard was amazing! The trains did not bother us. The internet worked well (we used the Apple TV to watch Saturday football). Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend a stay here! :)
We loved staying here. There was nothing we needed that wasn't provided. The property was very clean and in excellent condition. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to Marfa!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay. The house was exceptionally well stocked with essential supplies and many extras. Certainly clean and well maintained. The appliances were new and functioned well. The yard worked great for our small dog. The neighborhood was quite. The train made noise, but I think you can hear that anywhere in town. In late October, the pecan tree in the back yard provided pecans for our pancakes and oatmeal. The Food Shark food truck had fresh Mediterranean food and is within walking distance. Buns & Roses was a nice place for breakfast.
Virginia's place was such a respit with so many thought out amenities offered.
It was cozy, quiet and just minutes away from the Marfa main strip.
Truly a find. Ill most certainly come back time and again.
Marfa is a small town without traffic lights. Most destinations are within a couple of minutes of driving time. Shopping, restaurants, art galleries and bars are within walking distance or bike riding is also preferred option. Marfa is very safe and full of friendly people.
For your convenience, a welcome packet containing information about Marfa, things to do and places to eat will be provided to you.
