Overview

About the property

1512 Sq Foot Squeaky Clean Cabin with Views & Spacious Deck

Welcome to the TWISTED OAK CHALET!!

This fabulous multi-level mountain home offers 3 spacious corner bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, is nicely tucked away above a tranquil road and among plenty of old growth Sugar Pines, Cedars, Firs and of course, a gorgeous old twisted oak tree right out front!! The first bedroom is downstairs and has a Queen size bed with comfy linens. One of the full bathrooms is also on this level. On the next level, you'll find the 2nd bedroom with a Queen size bed, vaulted ceilings and a private deck right outside. This level also has the 3rd bedroom with a full size bed, vaulted ceilings and a set of twin bunk beds, with equally comfy linens and a desk, in case the kids wish to do homework while on vacation ;-). There is a full bathroom on this level.

The living room has a Queen size sofa sleeper and love seat, perfect for cozying up after a long day of playing in the sun, snow or water. There's also a reclining leather chair, along with a rocking chair for grandma to knit your next Christmas sweater :-). Numerous windows provide spectacular views of the surrounding trees, distant forests and plenty of flying shenanigans provided by our resident hummingbirds, Harley and Harriett. Additional entertainment is provided by our 40" flat screen tv with roku streaming, dvd player and boombox with a plethora of cd's for your old school listening pleasure. Last but not least, there's a wonderful detached wood burning fireplace, to add ambiance and warmth to your winter evenings.

Adjacent to the large living room, there's an equally large and well stocked kitchen. The interior dining table easily seats 6, while the outside picnic table easily seats another 9. The very spacious deck has additional lounge seating, patio heaters for those chilly nights, along with a gas grill for cooking lots of steaks, chicken, fish, burgers, hot dogs and so much more. Just below the deck is the horseshoe pit and enough firewood to impress Paul Bunyan.

Downstairs is the fun family room, where gamblers and fancy women need to sign in with the captain. There's also a Queen size futon sleeper, dart board, lots of games, cards, poker chips, foosball and a tv with dvd player.

For those that prefer to do laundry, there's a mud room/laundry room with full size washer/dryer, fishing poles and floaties for the kids to use.

The TWISTED OAK CHALET is VERY cozy and the deck is a wonderful place to have breakfast, happy hour, lunch, happy hour, dinner or one more happy hour each day. After all, when you're on vacation, you can never have too many happy hours!

It's the perfect setting for entertaining or just sitting around with friends/family. Relax on the deck with a drink and your loved ones, while hanging out with Arnie, our resident tree hugger bear, while watching the pine trees grow, pine cones fall, resident hummingbirds zip around, Squitchy the squirrel climbing the trees, Charlie the chipmunk, Billy the bat, the sunset, the clouds or the shooting stars. Either way, you're sure to have a fun and relaxing experience, whether reading a book, writing a book, scrapbooking, taking a nap or spotting one of numerous resident critters that call this place home.

There is central heating for those chilly nights, along with wifi and high speed internet. Because we're located in the community of Blue Lake Springs, you will have daily seasonal access to all the amenities available to residents (for a small fee) like: 2 lakes, a community pool, basketball court, bocce, ping pong, shuffleboard and tennis. There's also a golf course and 2 restaurants, all within about 1 mile away. The town of Arnold is less than 5 miles away and offers a supermarket, library, hardware store, several restaurants, banks and more shopping.

Nearby activities include: Alpine Lake (one of my favorite spots) for fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and picnics! Tree huggers will LOVE Calaveras Big Trees State Park for hiking and more picnics. The area hosts numerous events each year, such as the Bear Valley music festival, local wineries offer summer concert series, the quaint historic town of Murphys, boasting small shops, yummy restaurants and lots of local wine tasting.

Easy day trips include visits to Yosemite, Markleeville or Lake Tahoe. If you're a photographer or motorcycle enthusiast, then this will be PARADISE for you. Take a scenic drive over Ebbetts, Monitor and Sonora Pass, for truly spectacular twisty roads and stunning vistas!!! And don't forget highway 49 between Oakhurst and Angels Camp for additional motorcycle riding fun.

Go spelunking in one of several nearby caverns or zip lining through a canyon. Visit the nearby historic gold mining towns of Columbia, Sonora or Jamestown, where the kids can pan for gold, check out a blacksmith or maybe just ride back in time on a horse drawn stagecoach.

In the winter months you can go skiing or sledding at nearby Bear Valley, or snowshoeing along several trails with one of those trails located directly behind our cabin!

Angels Camp has its annual Frog Jump extravaganza, while Murphys has its annual St. Patty's Day parade and Arnold has a real hometown fourth of July parade down main street followed by a community barbeque in the town square.

TWISTED OAK CHALET is the perfect base camp for you, your friends and family to enjoy the Sierra Nevada mountains and everything they have to offer. We've even hosted groups of scrappers with ample room for all their scrap booking stuff.

This is a quiet/peaceful mountain neighborhood, so please be considerate of my home, the neighbors and respectful of nature. Once your reservation is confirmed, you will receive complete cabin instructions 72 hours prior to your arrival.

Well behaved dogs may be considered, in advance, on a case by case basis, for a small fee. Sorry but no cats allowed.

Unauthorized pets and/or any type of vandalism/reckless behavior will automatically forfeit your entire deposit.

No smoking permitted.

Please note: holiday bookings require a 3 night minimum stay (President's day-Memorial day-Independence day-Labor day-Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year's).

WELCOME to the TWISTED OAK CHALET!!! We look forward to your visit :-)

About Anthony Daniels

A former NY'er, International Tour Guide, Cafe Owner-Operator, Passionate Motorcycle Rider and Realtor, splitting my time between California and Arizona while discovering beautifully remote roads and natural scenery.

Anthony Daniels purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Anthony Daniels chose Gold Country & High Sierra

I chose Arnold because of the friendly sense of community that exists here and I've always loved the serenity and tranquility that the Sierra Nevada mountains offer. I think you'll agree with me that the TWISTED OAK CHALET is a wonderful place to return to during any season, time and time again. Cheers!

What makes this cabin unique

I love natural light and this property has plenty of it. With so many large windows upstairs and an expansive view deck, I spend most of my time either in the living room or on the deck with family & friends, enjoying the fresh air, listening to all the birds, views, sunsets, stars, majestic trees and entertaining critters.

Please note that this cabin is NOT intended to accommodate large volumes of visitors. It is not priced so low that it's always booked, with crowds of people coming and going every single weekend. Such places are subject to a great deal of wear and tear and it shows. This isn't that kind of place. It is lovingly cared for and we want our guests to be comfortable and make themselves at home, in a place where everything is nice, clean and in good condition. Also note that many of those "bargain priced" cabins may have lost most of their trees, due to 6 years of drought and bark beetle infestations. Our cabin is still surrounded by numerous tall, old growth Sugar Pines, White Firs, Ponderosas and Cedars.

Come experience the alluring serenity of the TWISTED OAK CHALET.

Always a wonderful getaway with the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the Twisted Oak Chalet a few times now. We enjoy being able to drive just a few hours away from the noisy Bay Area to stay at this beautiful, peaceful home. The Twisted Oak Chalet is completely outfitted, you will want for nothing when you stay there. The owner has everything very well organized and a binder of information about the home and fun things to do in the area. We have ventured up to Bear Valley, spent time in Murphy's, attended a concert at Iron Stone Winery and we've hiked around the area. We have stayed during all times of the year...never a disappointment. Only down side..is having to come back to reality after staying in such a lovely home.

Great Labor Day WE Experience at the Twisted Oak Chalet

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was a great base for wine tasting in Murphys, hiking the Big Tree SP and playing at Alpine Lake.

The house is well set up for any group of travelers, we enjoyed the really well equipped kitchen - we bbqed twice during our stay.

The deck is a great place to relax, cook and eat.

The overall set up worked very well for us, couple with toddler and another couple, however we could see bringing quite a few more people and still being very comfortable. Beds were great too.

So, overall, the house is very nice and I think a great deal during the summer month.

Travelling with a toddler often feels quite challenging so working with somebody who clearly cares about your experience is priceless.

This is where this property differentiates. The owner Anthony is amazing. He checked in multiples times before we arrived, promptly answered various questions as well as kept checking in during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed.

I would give him another extra star if I could :) and we definitely plan on returning!

Thank you again for making this so enjoyable for us and being so helpful!!

Great weekend away

  • 4 of 5

Went here with for the weekend with my parents and our adult children. We had such a great time. The balcony was wonderful. It was so peaceful - my daughter did her yoga there, we had dinner outside, and the weather so great we stayed outside to play games. There was a great place to sit in comfy chairs to relax, enjoy the quietness, and look at the stars, and the picnic table had enough seating for all of us. The guys had a GREAT time playing darts! Was hard to get them to stop and come eat dinner.

Anthony was so great with the booking process. There was a little snafu with reservation confirmation on vrbo and the site accepting my reservation and payment and Anthony was so attentive at working through it with me. He was quick to respond to my questions and concerns until it was resolved. He was also very patient and quick to answer my many questions.

The house is very cozy, has a nice open kitchen so while your working on meals you still feel included with the rest of the gang and the slider goes right from the kitchen to the balcony. Peaceful place to relax, watch the wildlife (a doe and her twins came right up to the side of the house), and enjoy the outdoors.

Fantastic place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends enjoyed a fun, relaxing weekend at the Twisted Oak Chalet. We found the property to be clean, comfortable and fully stocked. Even though it was a very warm weekend, the cabin interior remained a comfortable temperature. Some members of our group put down air beds on the deck and slept under the stars (and had no issue with mosquitos). We ate all of our meals (followed by long card games) on the spacious deck, enjoying the serenity of the pines and oaks. We also took advantage of the nearby Blue Lake Springs recreation center, complete with swimming pool, lake (even better for swimming), bocce court, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard and basketball courts. We even managed to play golf at the nearby country club (which was kind enough to accommodate us, even though it is a private club). Anthony checked in by text soon after our arrival to make sure that we had everything we needed. Everyone agreed that a return trip to the Twisted Oak Chalet is a must, and we're already looking forward to coming back.

Pleasant stay

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at the Twisted Oak a few times now, and we really enjoy it. The kids love (perhaps too much?) the foosball table, and everybody has a great time. It's about 45 minutes away from ski areas and sno-parks in the winter, pretty much in the best possible location. Plenty of areas to take walks and such, and it's close enough to grocery and restaurants to be convenient, yet far enough away to not feel like Southern California. We have nothing but good things to say about it and will be making trips there a tradition as long as the cabin is available.

Some tips for winter travelers: HWY 4 is well-plowed and generally doesn't need chains except during a storm. The Blue Lake Springs area, however, is another matter. While the roads are plowed, they are not plowed as often or as thoroughly, and the snow gets packed down into ice pretty quickly. Make sure you have chains or 4wd with you -- you may need it for the mile or so of side roads you'll take off of HWY 4. And there's no shame in parking at the bottom of the driveway, just make sure you don't stick out into the road.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for staying with us again. We love it when our guests choose to keep coming back year after year. BTW, there's no such thing as too much foosball. We choose it over a smartphone or other high tech gadget any day. Here's hoping you have a wonderful 2016 and feel free to come visit us again....any time of year! Cheers.
