About Caroline Matz
Doug and I have wanted a home in the woods and we were so glad we found The Chalet. Doug has been a builder most of his life and I was a teacher for 35 years. In retirement, we are enjoying outdoor activities while working on maintaining and updating our homes. We want to provide a one of a kind vacation experience that allows guests to feel truly immersed in their destination! The unique charm of Sisters surrounded by the extraordinary natural beauty of Central Oregon inspires us to create comfortable and exciting accommodations that accentuate the authentic, down-to-earth Central Oregon lifestyle. We are passionate about our community and hope to share with you the magic of all that Sisters and the surrounding area has to offer!
Caroline Matz purchased this Chalet in 2012
Why Caroline Matz chose Sisters
My husband, Doug, and I chose this custom log home for its uniqueness, its setting and the size of the property. It was built by a father and his two sons, which made it special. A lot of special touches were included in its building. He was a cabinet-maker and built the cabinets as well. All space was utilized. Inside, the lava rock fireplace is spectacular, absolutely breathtaking, and does the job of heating the home (even though it has an effective heat pump and air cooling.) It is in Crossroads subdivision in the Pine and Aspen trees. The Chalet is centered on a knoll in the middle of 2 acres, so there is separation for privacy, yet you can easily say hi to neighbors walking by. The sun rises and shines through the loft into the cabin, shines on the kitchen and living room side of the cabin and sets on the front porch. There are 4 hiking trails out to the Sisters Trail Alliance which extends through the Deschutes National Forest. We fell in love with the property!
What makes this Chalet unique
The position of the building on the site is perfect to receive the sunlight throughout the day. The sun rises at the back door and in the window of the loft bedroom, travels along the living room side of the house, and then sets at the front of the house. The Chalet gets sunlight all day. The lava-rock fireplace is awe-inspiring...you will see it when you arrive, and hopefully use it when the weather gets cold!! The porch and outdoor living area is so special, you can choose any spot you desire to settle in. Watch the deer graze in the yards, squirrels play and gather nuts, birds eating seeds. Sit on the western swing...and relax. There's no doubt that a good night's sleep makes for a fantastic vacation! But what makes a vacation truly remarkable, truly memorable is when you get to experience the authenticity of a place. To feel its 'vibe' and know it's people. To live for a weekend, several days, a week or more... as the locals live. To feel truly immersed in your destination.

The perfect getaway from a hectic schedule. The log cabin is very cozy and is quite spacious. We really enjoyed being so close to the network of trails that we biked and hiked on daily. Caroline, the owner, was very easy to communicate with and even offered us a late check out which was deeply needed.
We definitely look forward to coming again in the winter when we can ski.
Thanks to the Matz family!
The perfect getaway from a hectic schedule. It was a spring break that lived up to the hype. Awesome
We BBQ'd, we hiked, we played in the snow, we golfed. Our dog got to do things he'd never done before. And we still had time to just take in the scenery. Air was crisp and the neighborhood quiet. Couldn't have asked for better owners. This will be a hard trip to top in the future, but gives us a bar to strive for. Thanks to the Matz family.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comments. It is guests like you that keeps us wanting to make our home the most inviting.
Beautiful home in a beautiful setting
This house provided everything we needed for our vacation. It's close to plenty of things to do, yet we felt very secluded and off the beaten path. The rental process was seamless. We were provided with plenty of information to make our stay a success. The house was clean and well equipped, and located in a beautiful setting. I would definitely recommend this house.
Beautiful cabin in the forest
The cabin in the forest is absolutely amazing! A quiet location with many places to walk and the town of Sisters just a few miles away. The house has everything you will need including a big wood stove. Very clean and a comfortable bed. A nice place to getaway. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it. You will be very pleased!
Quentessential Log Cabin tucked against the Cascade Range Mountains
Gorgeous Log Cabin in Sisters, OR. This is our second visit to the cabin and it's only gotten better. The owners have added a beautiful wrap around porch and covered patio off the back. The location is fabulous, as it's just minutes from Downtown Sisters, trails, falls, etc. The owners have done a great job making sure that everything is comfortable, the beds are cozy, there are extra supplies (coffee, spices, toiletries, blankets, dishes, etc), a fire ready to be lit in the log fireplace, that the house is clean, stocked and fun. We definitely enjoyed our stay and plan to return very very soon. Sisters is well known for the beauty and the festivals and this is the perfect place to stay to enjoy your true log cabin feel in a mountainous town. A+
We had a lovely stay! Quiet location, we saw deer in the yard on two different days. The bed was comfortable, the cabin was spacious. Good wi-fi connection and short drive to town.
Dee Wright Observatory is only 10 miles where you are amid a lava field and can see 360 degree view of peaks in the Cascade Mountain Range and learn about the areas geological history; hiking trails right outside our neighborhood that puts you in the Deschutes National Forest. Follow the Trail Alliance trails for many miles on foot or on bicycle.
