Overview

About the property

Studio apartment next to extensive trails. Great access to Donner, Squaw,Tahoe

You may wish to simply relax and enjoy our detached spacious studio apartment and hot tub, while getting 'away from it all', or use it as a launching pad for enjoying a multitude of Reno/Tahoe adventures. Located on the edge of Truckee's 'Glenshire' subdivision, our property is adjacent to thousands of acres of open land, with a multitude of local trails for mountain biking, hiking and running. Stunning views of the back side of Mount Rose, and a wild flower filled meadow with seasonal brook, are just a two minute walk from your front door!

Our Sweet Truckee Apartment, is a large (500+ square feet=46.5 sq meters) second story studio (CAUTION: there are 15 stairs) above our garage (used only for storage) which is detached and separated from the main house by about 50 feet. The apartment is equipped with a full kitchen including a three burner stove with oven, full size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and a full complement of cooking equipment (pots, pans, coffee maker, blender, basic spices, and so on). Relax after a long day of Tahoe travels in a brand new hot tub with a filtered view of Mount Rose or enjoy the typically outstanding night time sky (the stars really DO shine brighter in Truckee!).

The apartment is furnished with a brand new super-comfortable king sized bed, plus a large couch that can double as a twin bed. A comfortable queen sized air bed, or small twin-size folding beds, are available for children or other additional guests. The apartment is equipped with Wi-Fi, a desk for your computer, a 40" flat screen TV with a DVD player and Sudden Link cable service including HBO & Pandora.

Located just a ten minute drive from downtown Truckee, we are within a half hour drive of Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, the North Shore of Lake Tahoe (Tahoe City, Kings Beach, etc), Royal Gorge X-C, Tahoe Donner X-C, and the world class rock climbing crags of Donner Summit and Big Chief. The brand new Truckee River/Glenshire Legacy bike path was just completed summer of 2014, and now connects our neighborhood to downtown Truckee and Northstar via a paved limited access bike path that runs on the opposite side of the Truckee River from the main road. A beautiful catch-and-release trophy fly fishing zone on the Truckee River is just minutes away, as are boating and fishing on Boca and Stampede reservoirs, where each spring you can watch adult bald eagles teaching their young to fly. With the Hirschdale/Boca/Stampede exit of Hwy 80 just three miles from our home, it is only a 30 minute drive to the exciting night life of downtown Reno, and just 35 minutes to the Reno International Airport.

We are located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac at the edge of the subdivision. Just perfect for a quiet stroll through the neighborhood, or a jaunt through the nearly endless network of trails that extend from our back yard all the way to Lake Tahoe. The subdivision clubhouse is several blocks away, and has a pool and tennis courts during the summer season, as well as a year round trail around the Glenshire pond with intermittent ice skating in the winter months. In the summer months we set up an outdoor patio with barbeque and grill alongside a beautiful wildflower garden and field of sage and bitterbrush, which attracts lots of mule deer and bunny rabbits, almost daily hawk visits, and we once saw a large bobcat staring at us from less than 50 feet away.

About Matthew Stein or Mary Beedle

Owner Mat Stein was born and raised in Burlington Vermont and is a best selling author, product designer, and occasional green builder. His parents started him walking on skis at age three, hiking at age 5, backpacking at age seven, hunting at age 10, rock climbing and extreme skiing at age 11. The Green mountains of Vermont, White mountains of New Hampshire, and the Adirondack’s of upstate New York were his four-season childhood play grounds. A National Merit Scholar and graduate of MIT, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering, in 1978 the lure of the “real mountains” of the west drew Mat across the country to California.

Mat's partner, Mary Beedle, is a nurse practitioner and for more than a decade had her own school of therapeutic massage. Mary came from a large Irish Catholic family on the south side of Chicago, has lived for several years in a tree house in Hawaii, studied massage and Hawaiian healing methods with renowned native Hawaiian healer Margaret Michado, and has sailed from Hawaii to Seattle.

Matthew Stein or Mary Beedle purchased this cottage in 1988

Why Matthew Stein or Mary Beedle chose Lake Tahoe North Shore CA

We loved Tahoe from the moment we saw it. We first lived off Lake Tahoe's West Shore drive in 1980/81, and totally fell in love with the area, but grew tired of the tourist season traffic jams that in peak seasons often made it faster to walk to the grocery store than to drive. When we were going to move from Tahoe to Hawaii, friends invited us to a going away dinner at their home in Glenshire. When we saw Glenshire (our subdivision on the outskirts of Truckee), my wife and I looked at each other and said how much we liked it, and that perhaps we shouldn't be moving? Well, we moved to Hawaii anyways, but returned to Glenshire in1986 and bought our home here in the spring of 1989.

Wonderful stay/time

  • 4 of 5

The only reason not 5 stars was the way the "apartment" was shot is a bit different than reality- studio, not apartment. Matt & Mary are lovely, trails fantastic, studio great for 2 people! Can't wait to go back!

Perfect Pad of landing

Not much else to say except the Studio, the experience, the hosts were perfect. I'll be saving this place for future visits to the area. Or to just get away for a bit. Thank you to the hosts for making it all very easy!

A very comfortable, clean, well equipped space. Very nice kitchen space. Extremely comfortable bed.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Matt and Mary's place. The hosts were amazingly hospitable and welcoming. They even had us over for dinner one night and we feel like we made a new set of friends. But they also respected our privacy. The perfect space as a Home Away from home while exploring Truckee and North Lake Tahoe. We would highly recommend staying here and would stay again!

Clean, bright, perfectly equipped and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic location and owners. The property offered everything we needed and was an excellent home base for our visit and nearby activities. Very peaceful and relaxing. I also appreciated the payment installment option. Recommendations from, and interactions with the owners significantly enhanced our trip. Would happily have stayed much longer and plan to return.

Quiet stay in studio apartment

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay outside Truckee in this quiet studio apartment. It's only about 20 minutes from historic downtown Truckee, so close enough to explore that area. We didn't get the see the bobcat or coyotes, but it was fun to look for them! Mat was helpful in giving us tips about potential traffic problems since it was Labor Day weekend, so we knew when to avoid what areas. A friend's wedding brought us to the area, but we saw it as a nice weekend getaway. Could easily come back and would be happy to rent this place again. We had everything we needed, with the kitchen setup. Perhaps another lamp would have been helpful - we are readers, so needed that brighter light. Other than that it was just as advertised. Thanks, Mat and Mary!
