Why Antonino Zappalà chose Balestrate
Villa Maria is our Beach House, since we were children we spent here many summers. The beach close to the Villa combines the relaxation of a large public beach to the comfort and the liveliness of the lido with bars and animation.
What makes this Villa unique
The convenience of the proximity to the sea and the safety and tranquillity of the location inside a private residence makes it the perfect place for your holidays.

Comfortable, well-equipped villa very close to the beach
The host Nino was very responsive right from the booking date and even met us late evening on the day of our arrival at a fuel station just off the autostrada exit for Balestrate to guide us to the villa. He also provided useful tourist information about attractions to visit in the area and recommended some of the local facilities/shops such as butchers, bakers and restaurants etc. as well as a map of Balestrate. We had a plumbing problem one night and Nino responded immediately and sorted it out. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor furniture and an outdoor kitchen, which we didn't use as our stay was out of season. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the villa and the host Nino wholeheartedly. The only negatives re the villa are the doors to the bedrooms and in particular the bathroom, which are of a concertina type and do not afford any real privacy and we would have expected a little more bedlinen and towels for a 3 week stay as it was quite difficult sometimes to get them dry after laundering due to the changeable weather. However, I am sure that NIno would have provided additional linen had we asked him. Also, there were only 4 TV channels in the English language (after a total re-tune!) and rather strangely we were unable to access any Italian channels! Balestrate is a typical little Sicilian working town with plenty of restaurants and bars etc. We would recommend the Ondas Azurras Pizza Restaurant to the right of the end of the communal driveway for pizza only, as that was what all the customers were eating and some of the other Italian dishes were not that great. A litre of red wine for 6 Euros was a very welcome surprise there! All in all an excellent holiday with good value accommodation, great weather for the time of year (except for a few days) and a lovely friendly host.
Our Stay in September
We stayed at Nino's villa for a week at the end of September and immediately felt at home. The villa was lovely with all of the facilities that you would need for a good holiday. The addition of ping pong and playing cards was the perfect distraction when we wanted a little diversion.
We particularly liked the restaurant Onda Azzura just 50 mts away where everyone was very welcoming and we met some lovely people there. Also we would recommend La Rosa dei Venti in Balestrate. Exellent food and hosts at both restaurants.
Nino was the perfect host, very welcoming and helpful. Thank you.
We would definitely recommend this villa and hope to visit again.
Patricia and Leo.
Séjour au bord de mer en Sicile
Séjour agréable ,
Super moment dans cette maison et propriétaire super gentil je recommande fortement 👍👍
Pretty villa, very large pleasant outside living area
The weather being very hot, we were able to take advantage of the outside living area, shaded thanks to the terrace roof, with lots of air, and surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants. The villa is accessed by a private road and surrounded by other pretty villas. The beach is right in front of the entrance to the private road, so going to the beach by foot just takes a couple minutes. Balestrate is a friendly little Sicilien town, with lots of food stores. Even though we spoke no italien, the shopkeepers when out of their way to help us. Balestrate is near Palermo and other sight-seeing spots. We loved going home to the villa after a long day of sight-seeing, to enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea, then to relax in the terrace. The nearby restaurant Lo Squalo has delicious pizzas and pastas and the waitresses received us warmly. Antonino, the host, is a very kind and pleasant young man, and so very helpful. Whenever we had a question or needed some help, he always responded immediately. It was a pleasure communicating with Antonino and living in his villa and discovering the sights of Sicily, using his villa as our base.
The Villa is located at 30 km from Palermo "Falcone and Borsellino" Airport and 50 km from the low-cost Trapani-Birgi airport. From the port of Palermo the distance is about 40 km. From both airports and the port of Palermo the Villa can be reached by highway A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo, exit at Balestrate. Given the proximity of the railway station you can navigate comfortably travel by train, especially towards Trapani.
Balestrate is a small town of about 6000 inhabitants, its location directly on the Sea offers optimal conditions for those who love to spend relaxing days on its golden beaches. The joyful atmosphere of the country is confirmed by the kindness of its inhabitants. Within the town there are also excellent restaurants where you can enjoy typical Sicilian dishes.
The town is also an important tourist hub: in addition to its golden beaches, in fact, from Balestrate is easy to access to wonderful places such as Castellammare del Golfo, Scopello, Zingaro Nature Reserve, San Vito lo Capo, Erice, Trapani, Aeolian Islands, Palermo, Monreale, Agrigento and Selinunte.

The villa is located in the countryside, so the proper sounds of the countryside can be heard from time to time. Moreover, as in the whole northern Sicily, there is a railroad all along the coast: the villa is on the coast, so the railroad is near. This has never been a problem to anyone, as you can see from the reviews, since there are only a few small trains passing: that's furthermore a romantic and funny thing, for example for me when I was a kid :)
