About Kate Van Sickler

We rented this cabin for many years before purchasing it in 2013. It was during our annual visit we noticed a lockbox on the back porch. We instantly jumped on the chance to own this small piece of paradise. We gutted the kitchen and added granite counters and stainless steel appliances. We continue to make improvements to our slice of paradise. Our future projects will be an outside fire pit and lounge area.

Kate Van Sickler purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Kate Van Sickler chose Canton

We love the location and the view. We keep this as home base while we continue to explore western North Carolina. Close to Waynesville, Sylva, Canton, Maggie Valley etc.

What makes this cabin unique

We loved the idea of owning a log home. We especially love sitting on the back porch listening to the sounds of the river. Taking walks down by the river at Rivermont ~simply never gets old. During the cooler months - there is nothing better than a crackling fire in the wood burning fireplace. MAX guest 6

Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at RiverRoost was very pleasant despite the weather. The location, being so close to Waynesville is a definite plus in addition to being able to hear the river whenever you are outside. The layout of the cabin is ideal for three couple or a couple with children.

Kate is extremely pleasant and easy to work with. She quickly responded to each question I had. We plan on returning during a season where we can fully enjoy the location of this cabin.

A great family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from River Roost. WOW, what a wonderful view, it was just what we needed. The cabin was perfect. We had our son and daughter who are adults now, one fiancee and one friend. Six total. The cabin served us well, with plenty of room. Let's not forget about the beautiful wrap around porch. All I can say it was good for the soul. Kate was wonderful to work with. She responded fast and when we arrived earlier than we had expected, was nice enough to let us in a couple of hours early.

We hope to return next year!

Relaxing and comfortable stay at RiverRoost as Fall begins.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed out one-week stay at RiverRoost, even though remnants of tropical storm Nate made a quick pass through the region on our 2nd day. The house was very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. We stayed in RiverMont last year, decided to stay at RiverRoost this year after we saw the house and the view from the deck while here last year. A very good choice. Residents nearby are very friendly. We would certainly like to come back and stay again.

great stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The kids loved going down and playing in the creek and feeding the fish in the pond. It's a short drive to Pisgah national forest, sliding rock and looking glass falls.

We came to watch the eclipse in Brevard, and this was the perfect place to stay. Nice house, with great neighbors.

Owner's Response: We loved having you. You definitely were a 5 star guest. Glad you were able to see the eclipse. What a wonderful experience. William deserved all 5 stars- unfortunately I didn't have my readers on and clicked all 4's by accident. Hope you'll visit us again soon.
