About Evelyn and Mindo
We are artists, business owners, software developers and currency traders. We have each lived in Santa Barbara for over 35 years and have owned retail gift stores, restaurants and bakeries in that time. We love this town and have carved out a very special area of it for you to call home during your visit. We have lived in many areas of Santa Barbara, Montecito and Carpinteria - yet find Mission Canyon, where we now live, to be one of the best places in the entire area. When other parts of the coast are foggy and cold, our little piece of paradise basks in warm sunlight. We love being close to downtown, UCSB (The University of California Santa Barbara) and the Music Academy of the West in Montecito - so all the cultural wealth of the town is easily within reach.
Evelyn and Mindo purchased this Apartment in 2000
Why Evelyn and Mindo chose Mission Canyon
Mission Canyon is known as one of the best places in Santa Barbara because it's almost always sunny here, far enough from the beach to avoid the morning fog and close enough to the mountains for great hikes & day trips. It's also close enough to downtown that you can easily walk to all the great shops, theaters and restaurants Santa Barbara has to offer.
What makes this Apartment unique
We think of our property as an evolving, living spiritual abode, and we are constantly bringing more artistic inspiration into every aspect of it. We often have garden groups come for private tours - even the docents of the famous Lotusland in Montecito - and artists from around the country come to see what lies 'behind the magic gates'.

3rd time - and it’s even more of a charm!
This was our 3rd time staying at SuitePeas. Evelyn and Mindo continue to offer what we believe is the best value and lodging experience in SB. We highly recommend SuitePeas to anyone who wants a quiet, private, and extremely comfortable abode that is close to many of SB’s best dining, retail and sight-seeing spots. Evelyn and Mindo are exceptional hosts - in every way. We’re already planning for our next stay! Enjoy!.
I can't say enough good things about my stay at Suite Peas. The suite is cozy and beautifully appointed with high-end furnishings and linens, and charming artistic touches. It was a treat to curl up on the comfy couches with a cup of tea in front of the fireplace. And the gardens... absolutely spectacular! Mindo and Evelyn were the most gracious hosts - very responsive but in no way intrusive, and provided many thoughtful extras like information on art exhibits and events, and even a healthy welcoming snack. I would love to stay with them again!
So much better than we expected!
WOW! What a magical and sacred space Evelyn and Mindo have created. I am the kind of person who appreciates attention to detail and there was really no detail that did not exceed our expectations. It's quiet, close to everything and every amenity is luxurious. When we arrived, there was a plate of goat cheese, crackers an kumquats from their garden! They had so many snacks, a bowl of fruit and the fridge was stocked with the basics :) The studio apartment is large with beautiful views to the gardens. The bathroom was perfect and stocked with spa bath products and robes for lounging. They had the best guidebook that they made with local places to walk and bike as well as a variety of books on hiking in the area. My husband I were celebrating our anniversary and it really was one of the best vacations we've had in a while. It was so amazing to connect and this space definitely contributed to our overall relaxation. Evelyn is an amazing artist--she makes incredible art out of Nespresso cups! And, there is garden art everywhere on the property :) They were even having a party that they invited us too...but we had gone to the dispensary and were honestly too high to go to the party. Be careful if you experiment with edibles while in California! We are clearly lightweights! But, we had an amazing time and plan to return next time we are in SB. Thanks so much for creating such a sacred and beautiful sanctuary!! We could feel the love! Amy & Christian.
A Special Place
Just spent three glorious days here and cannot say enough good things about our experience. The welcome from Evelyn and Mindo was as inviting as the luxurious accommodation. The gardens are so beautiful - both the plants and the art - that it was hard to leave and explore the wonders of Santa Barbara. Although having said that, the location was perfect for mountain hiking, Hendry's beach, and all the downtown sites.
A Quiet Place
Having visited over two dozen VRBOs from Martha’s Vineyard to San Francisco, Mission Canyon sits atop the list. From the moment you enter the property, you are enveloped in quiet and calm. Cool breezes, lapping water and total comfort surround you. A lovely deck in the treetops is irresistible and makes you question if you really want to leave it all behind and venture out to Santa Barbara. Whatever your choice (and the town is delightful) your body will find relaxation and your mind and spirit will be restored. As for the art and whimsy, I will let it be a surprise as it was for me. A teaser: NOT TO BE MISSED.
Perfect in every way
Suite Peas is a "must stay" for anyone traveling to Santa Barbara who enjoys privacy, quiet, "nature in the city", beautiful gardens and perfect accommodations--that's you, right? Then this is your place. While it is always about the accommodations, Suite Peas offers so much more than just the perfect bed with wonderful sheets and pillow options, room to roam, all the necessary "kitchen" things to more than just "get by", multiple coffee choices, a bath set up with amenities that will not only rival but exceed you best experiences in a five star hotel, plush towels, first morning (and beyond) breakfast fixings.....our list could go on and on but we will leave some things for your pleasant surprise. We must say that the gardens are really special and done with the same love, care and attention you will find inside Suite Peas. You awaken to the fresh garden smells and the sounds of birds. You finish your day on your private porch overlooking the gardens as the evening light shows itself in Santa Barbara splendor. Oh, and the "pod up-cycling" is an on-going discovery we will leave to you. Obviously, we loved our two weeks at Suite Peas. And, we left with new friends and a promise to return again to see Mindy and Evelyn and enjoy this very special place they have created.
