About Gary Schultz

My wife and I were both born and raised in the area. I grew up on a family fruit farm just outside of Leamington and other than 4 years spent at the University of Guelph, have lived all of my life in Essex County. My wife's family first settled in the Colchester area over 100 years ago. We both work locally; Diane for Remax as a real estate agent and I as a turfgrass agronomist for Plant Products. Several years ago we moved to Colchester and reside 2 streets over from Sydenham Place.

Why Gary Schultz chose Ontario

Diane's family have been long time residents of the Colchester area so when our children moved out on their own leaving us 'empty nesters' we were drawn to the quiet village lifestyle and nearby beach. We appreciated the country atmoshpere with the close proximity to vineyards, fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, golf courses, and local bike routes. Morning walks to the beach with our dogs are a highlight. Shopping, dining, sporting events in Windsor and Detroit are only less than an hour away, smaller quaint historical towns such as Amherstburg and Kingsville are minutes away. Local festivals such as 'Explore the Shore' highlight the bounty this county offers.

What makes this cottage unique

Upon entering the front door the first feature of the cottage that attracted us was the open concept spaciousness of the living area, accentuated by the cathedral ceilings.The fact that the cottage had just been recently renovated increased its value to us. The covered backyard patio with its wooden swing promised hours of relaxation and entertaining friends.

We a family of 5 were well received at this cottage just a short walk to the magnificent pier and beach area. Upon arrival the grounds were well maintained as well as having the yard well equipped with the essentials. The interior is immaculate and very well taken of....it boasts cleanliness and is stocked with basic provisions! The description for this cottage doesn't even touch upon how welcoming and cozy it truly is! From booking, to meeting Diane( proprietor) it was a great family vacation in Colchester

The sound of quiet.

After spending 2 weeks here I could not get over the sound of how quiet it is. Even thought It was a particularly bad weather time of the year during my stay, I felt very comfortable, warm and safe. A full kitchen, comfortable furnishings and close to amenities all contributed to a peaceful stay. I was very impressed with the community. One night there was a heavy snow fall. with the roads and driveways impassable, all of the neighbors were out plowing and shoveling. That reminded me of what it was like growing up in a rural community.

On another night, I went to the smoke house restaurant around the corner. Although I had never been there before, I was treated like a regular.

located in the village of Colchester, the southernmost settlement on mainland Canada, and the southernmost point with the exception of Point Pelee National Park. Colchester lies along the southernmost road on mainland Canada, County Road 50, and has recently become a tourist destination because of the nearby wineries, the beach and harbour, and the scenery of the area. Every year, the village plays host to 'Explore the Shore', which are aimed at attracting visitors to the venues and attractions along the historic lakefront road. The village is also home to Christ Church Colchester (Anglican) which has a long history dating back to the beginnings of Colchester as one of the first settlements in Essesx County in the 18th century. Colchester is also the proclaimed 'Walleye Capital of Canada' and hosts the annual Walleye Derby held in June for the past 23 years and counting
