Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 3 bathroom (all en suite), sleeps 3 couples. Enjoy lake & views!

1920s style cottage built 2007 on Lake Drive, a private, gravel road and lakeside community of 40 homes. Beautifully landscaped grounds with lovely foliage/gardens, fragrant mint patch (great drinks garnish!), stone walls and steps, flagstone patio with dining table and chairs, and long views across Lake Mahkeenac, AKA The Stockbridge Bowl. From the house's private dock, an uninhabited island is an easy swim or kayak paddle away (two one-person kayaks with life preservers and paddles are provided), and provides privacy from the hub-bub of the Town Beach, with playground and picnic tables, all the way across the lake. The house is charmingly furnished, with all rooms offering lake views. Living Room features bookshelves with stereo and HDTV hooked up to TimeWarner Cable, window seat and French door access to dining/relaxing/napping screened-in porch, as does the adjacent study, with club chair, bookshelves and desk, and 6' baby grand piano. Fully equipped kitchen (SubZero fridge & Bosch gas range/electric oven) opens to dining area seating 6. First floor bathroom has clawfoot tub & access to a sublime outdoor shower, and can be closed from the stair hall to create an en suite bathroom for the first floor bedroom, with queen bed and ceiling fan. Second floor has two master bedrooms (both with AC and ceiling fans) with en suite bathrooms (with shower stalls), each with king bed and access to a deck overlooking the lake. One second floor bedroom has a window seat, flat-screen TV hooked up to TimeWarner Cable and desk/work space. There are at least two windowed exposures and ceiling fans in every room (including the screened porch). Internet/Wi-Fi is provided throughout the house.

Called 'America's Lake District' in the early 19th Century, and a Gilded Age destination and playground after that, Southern Berkshire County is the perfect place to spend the summer. Your perfect Stockbridge lakefront cottage is just minutes to Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra), Kripalu Yoga Center, Canyon Ranch, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Shakespeare & Company, Norman Rockwell Museum, and historic/significant house-museums (e.g. Daniel Chester French's Chesterwood, Edith Wharton's The Mount, Naumkeg, Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio, Ventfort Hall/Museum of the Gilded Age, The Mission House, etc.) and dining at Red Lion Inn and Wheatleigh. Equidistant to charming and historic Stockbridge and Lenox villages: enjoy restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, antiques, picturesque main streets or woodsy walks and hiking/biking trails. Nearby Great Barrington and Pittsfield offer bountiful farmers markets, gourmet groceries, cinemas, celebrated restaurants and Barrington Stage Company. The Berkshire Choral Festival, Hancock Shaker Village, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival and Williamstown/North Adams (for Theatre, The Clark Museum, Mass MoCA) are a 20-50 minute drive away. But you may never want to leave the antique French campaign bed on the screened-in porch or the living room or master bedroom window seats that beckon for a good book or good nap.
