Called 'America's Lake District' in the early 19th Century, and a Gilded Age destination and playground after that, Southern Berkshire County is the perfect place to spend the summer. Your perfect Stockbridge lakefront cottage is just minutes to Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra), Kripalu Yoga Center, Canyon Ranch, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Shakespeare & Company, Norman Rockwell Museum, and historic/significant house-museums (e.g. Daniel Chester French's Chesterwood, Edith Wharton's The Mount, Naumkeg, Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio, Ventfort Hall/Museum of the Gilded Age, The Mission House, etc.) and dining at Red Lion Inn and Wheatleigh. Equidistant to charming and historic Stockbridge and Lenox villages: enjoy restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, antiques, picturesque main streets or woodsy walks and hiking/biking trails. Nearby Great Barrington and Pittsfield offer bountiful farmers markets, gourmet groceries, cinemas, celebrated restaurants and Barrington Stage Company. The Berkshire Choral Festival, Hancock Shaker Village, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival and Williamstown/North Adams (for Theatre, The Clark Museum, Mass MoCA) are a 20-50 minute drive away. But you may never want to leave the antique French campaign bed on the screened-in porch or the living room or master bedroom window seats that beckon for a good book or good nap.
