Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Historic On The Outside, Completely Remodeled On The Inside.

Our house offers you a great place to relax and enjoy all that Bend has to offer. We started with a “millworker’s house” that had fallen into disrepair and spent 18 months modernizing the inside while keeping the “Old Bend” flavor on the outside. We tried to reuse and recycle wherever possible. We focused on energy efficiency during the cold winters and hot summers by putting in maximum insulation in walls, ceiling and floor, installing an energy efficient on-demand water heater and heat pump that can warm and cool the house.

The Aspen House is our home-away-from-home that we are happy to share with you. It has two bedrooms (Full bed in each) and one bathroom (shower only, no tub). The shower surround is a unique mosaic mural made of recycled glass tile. The kitchen and bath countertops are recycled barn wood. The kitchen is fully equipped and the dining area seats 4. The floor plan (oak flooring throughout) is very open, with dining, kitchen and living room all connected. The living room has a built-in sofa that can accommodate a couple of extra sleepers if needed (extra bedding available). We have a washer and dryer for your use, and a boot dryer, too. We have wifi, but no TV (there’s too much other great stuff to do to sit around watching TV!) There is off-street parking (in the driveway) for one or two cars and ample street parking. We have a small deck off the kitchen that drops down to a paved patio. Great for relaxing evenings under the stars.

The house gives you easy access to the river bike paths, the Old Mill Center, downtown Bend, and to Mt Bachelor’s world-class skiing (Colorado Street that takes you to the mountain is just 2 blocks away).

About Manuela Huso

We are long-time Oregon residents who live in Western Oregon, but love to come to Bend to ski, bike, paddle and hike… things we love to do in Corvallis, but in Bend we can do them without the rain! We have family and friends here and enjoy visiting as often as possible. But since we can’t actually live here (at least not yet) we thought we would open our house to others while we weren’t using it. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

Manuela Huso purchased this house in 2012

Why Manuela Huso chose Bend

We seem to always be attracted to older, under-loved homes that we can bring back to life. Our home in Corvallis that we’ve lived in for 19 years was built in 1909. Our previous one (lived in it for 10 years) was built in 1932. This one is our youngest yet, having been built in the 40s! We fell in love with the little bungalow in a great location that needed some serious TLC. Not too big, not too small… just right. We had a lot of fun (and some frustration) working on it and decorating it with mementos from our lives overseas. Now we are happy to be able to share it with others.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location. Not to mention a really comfortable place to hang out and relax. We can walk to everything, and many people walk past our house, too. Even the Cycle-pub goes by regularly and we always run to the front door to wave and cheer them on.

Cozy little house in a great location. Walking distance to everything downtown and the Old Mill district. No frills but very clean & comfortable with well appointed kitchen and off-street parking.

Unfortunately, I locked myself out of the house and Manuela and Robert were very helpful! The stay could not have been any better!

Great location, cute, clean, and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Aspen house. The location is perfect, it's downtown and close to all the wonderful things downtown Bend has to offer, but the street is quiet. There is a great back patio and BBQ pit. I would have enjoyed a table out there to eat our dinners or drink our coffee at. One request I have for the house is curtains in the bedrooms, our kids woke up with the sun every morning. It looks as though there may have been curtains that we're taken down at some point. Thank you for the wonderful home away from home will definitely be back!

Convenient to downtown but very basic

  • 3 of 5

My fault for not reading the description thoroughly but no TV or comfortable couch made it not work well for our family of 4.
