Nice place but a little dated - had some issues

  • 3 of 5

First i would like to say the home is rather nice. If you are looking to get away and want to unplug this is a fine place for that. With that being said we were picking a place like this to get away but not unplug. All the TV's are outdated with no HDMI ports, so no Chrome cast usage. Either way the WiFi there was the slowest i have ever seen. Under 1 Mbps download speed. You could not operate a computer or phone on that WiFi. The house was set up with Dish Network, but for the first few days it was down. Gratefully the owner came out with his friend to come and fix it. So what about the rest of the house then. There are 3 bedrooms with queen beds and another queen bed in a loft upstairs. Of the 3 beds in bedrooms, one is too hard, another is too soft and one is just right. The hot tub we were looking to use was in not great shape. It was pretty dirty and you could tell its a little old. It would really only fit 3 people as it has lots of contours for sitting positions. The kitchen had all the things you needed to make breakfast and cook. The water pressure in the sinks in the house were not that great so it was a little hard to rinse dishes. Unsure if the dishwasher really worked, it was rather old and crusty. Toilets had a harder time flushing. The showers were find with water pressure. The basement was good. It had a pool table in good condition, a dart board, which didn't have darts (brought my own) and not in great condition, large TV and a fair amount of seating. The coolest thing about the basement was the speaker system. There are speakers set up in the ceiling which were hooked up to a receiver where you can plug in your phone or computer via headphone jack and play your music. It has a volume cap, but its loud enough. There is a corn-hole set, which you could play right out on the terrace level. I will say the location is good. The town is nice and everything is close. Skyline caverns is worth it, not the most amazing, but a fun hour. Last thing i will say is make sure you confirm with the owner that you have the place. Once I booked the house, the listing on homeaway.com was down, the house is listed on Zillow, and one of the nights we were there another party came thinking they had the house. Luckily the owner confirmed that we had the house and not them. All in all it was a good weekend.

Gracious, fun space for group of friends

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 enjoyed our weekend stay at Franklin Manor. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, cookware, and glassware, and the large DR table was inviting locus for meals together. The jacuzzi was most welcome at the end of each day of hard, physical activity. We felt we were tucked away in the woods, yet so close to major roadways.

Large home conveniently located to Skyline Drive/Hiking/Water Activities

  • 4 of 5

If you need a house that can accommodate a lot of people, this is it. Pros: lots of space, right off the highway yet secluded by trees, conveniently located near Skyline Drive, Skyline Caverns, Shenandoah National Park, Canoeing/Kayaking/Rafting, wineries, grocery store; Cons: relatively clean, but could be maintained a little better - at least one deep clean per year of the rugs, furniture, and windows would be nice to get rid of all the dust, debris, and bugs that travelers bring with them; also, there was definitely a smoky smell when we were there which was a problem for two of my family members with asthma

This place is outstanding

  • 5 of 5

All,

If you're looking for a good vacation location in the Front Royal area, this is cabin is fantastic. The owner ensured the climate control was on when we got there, which was great because it was hot outside. That was a big plus. The place is clean and very spacious. There are 4 beds, so technically it will sleep 8. The cabin is located close to Front Royal and only a short drive to the wineries and breweries in the area, which is also awesome. I recommend this place to any and everyone looking for a great cabin!

Wonderful Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed from a Friday to Monday in October. The house is a beautiful wood cabin, with three floors of space that can accommodate a large group for a nice getaway. Unfortunately most of our group couldn't make it due to last minute schedule conflicts, so there were only three of us, but we made the most of it and enjoyed the cabin and nearby attractions. On the first (ground/basement) level there are couches (sleeper sofa), a pool table, bar and mini-fridge, and a full bathroom. On the second floor there is a large porch with seating outside, and inside there is large living room with a TV, the kitchen, and the master bedroom and bathroom. On the third floor there are two bedrooms and another bed in a loft area, plus a full bathroom. Out back (second floor) there is screened in porch with a hot tub and tables/chairs, and then outside is a small deck with a gas grill and a chiminea. Plenty of space! (especially for three). The kitchen was well stocked with the necessary pots, pans, cups, bowls, etc. We visited Skyline Drive on one day and the Skyline Caverns on the next day. Both are worth the trip and so close by, especially the caverns. We enjoyed it very much.

One tip, the owner is very nice but doesn't seem to be too responsive to emails, so I'd recommend calling the provided number to discuss accessing the house, lock-box code, etc. Very nice gentleman.

Thanks again.
