About Chelsea and Joe

I am a musician, author and illustrator. I bought this 1907 house with earnings from my music. I am writing a book on songwriting that will be released soon. I love hiking, swimming, river trips, dining out, biking, yoga, gallery hopping and my beloved community. I am here to get you acquainted with Asheville! My partner, Joe, is a philosophy major from St. Johns, who does river rescue and raft guide work as well as a full time potter. He also is a Jon Snow look alike.

Why Chelsea and Joe chose Chestnut Hills

This is the most affordable property for the location for 5 people. It is a pleasant, clean, no frills apartment where guests can feel safe and happy. I try to keep my rates as low as possible so that folks can come enjoy the town that I love and love to share. If you are looking for something fancy, huge, updated or you like to be ultra pampered, this is not the place for you. I have 240+ positive reviews on AirBnB.

What makes this apartment unique

You can park and never have to use your car again. The nearest cafe is a pleasant five minute walk. The neighborhood is blooming with flowers and trees in the spring and summer and is cozy and sparkling in the winter. There are breweries, restaurants and bars all within a pleasant fifteen minute walk from the house. There are street festivals in the summer time and friendly people everywhere.

Notes:
QUIET HOUR is 10pm. Please consider another property if you are seeking luxury anything. You WON’T find it here. The beds do not have fancy mattresses. The towels are sometimes line dried and may be coarse. The furniture is half vintage, half new. We do not use chemical cleaners, bleach, dryer sheets or Febreeze. It will not smell like a hospital or a big corporate hotel. The house is more than 100 yrs. old and is quirky with cracks and marks and tons of imperfections. It is small, but bigger than most hotel rooms. The sheets do not get ironed and may have wrinkles. The location is downtown in a dense area so you may hear neighbors, garbage trucks, kids, weed whackers, chickens, though it is quiet at night. If you are here to party, this is NOT the place for you. The bathroom is small. If you are a large person you may not be comfortable here. Asheville is VERY wet and smells that way. If you anticipate mustiness being an issue, this may be a problem for you.

A quiet place close to the Arts District

  • 5 of 5

Lots to love! We really appreciated having the space to stretch a bit, and I appreciated the coffee & tea, shampoo & conditioner, lovely books, magazines, and games, even if we didn't necessarily need them - we did use the maps! The runner in the family said the morning run was amazing. Only thing I would change would have been to shush the overenthusiastic mockingbird one evening! We enjoyed the opportunity to catch a glimpse of a charming neighborhood we would never have known otherwise - staying here made Asheville itself feel especially welcoming.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 2 full weeks & it was great to have a base of operations and not have to switch hotels or couch surf. We walked to downtown daily, and there are several closer, tasty options for meals, too. 15 minute drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway!

The place is comfortable and homey. It was July and the AC was fine -- at night we could turn it off & open the windows!

The front porch is lovely for sitting!

4 stars instead of 5 only because:

- The listing says it sleeps 5, but the most we had at any one time is 4. But even when there were only 2 of us, it was common for the hot water to run out before the showers were over. We came in July, but in January this could be a real problem!

- No place to hang clothes in the larger bedroom. Most of the one closet is full, and there is only a over-door hook in the large bedroom. Probably not an issue if you are only staying a few nights.

Cute little place.

  • 4 of 5

Decorated in shabby sheek. Great neighborhood. Front porch was awesome. The master bedroom was great and the bathroom not as small as decribed by owner. We thought it was fine. The only changes I would would suggest would be a bigger fridge and new futon mattress.

Owner's Response: Thank you all so much for staying! Our kitchenettes (and the sizes of sinks and fridges) are actually regulated by the city. . .thus, the small fridge. Any thing bigger would be considered “permanent housing” potential. We aren’t permitted a stove for guests either! I’m glad you enjoyed the porch. It’s one of the sweetest spots to hang, for sure.

The best!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the rental, the location and the owners! Spacious, comfortable, just as advertised! Short walk to town (Asheville is a cool town!). It was fun visiting with Chelsea (beautiful person inside and out). Liberty House Coffee and Cafe was my favorite morning stop. The coffee was great and the breakfast was outstanding. Whenever we return to Asheville I know where where we'll stay!

Simple lovely place close to town

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location with many places close by to either shop, gather groceries, restaurants or to walk into town. The bedrooms were comfortable and large kitchen/den combo. The front porch was nice to sit on and just relax either in the morning or late in the evening. Chelsea each day provided us great options knowing the weather projected some rain to get us started. We really enjoyed the quaint home and having the entire upstairs was perfect for our girls long weekend trip. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Owner's Response: Thank you all so much for staying! I'm glad that I could help with my "rain itinerary." Asheville is a great place rain or shine! It just takes a little rerouting. And yes, the front porch by the wild flowers is one of the best spots in the whole house. Thank you for staying in our home and for being such great guests.
