About Barbara Edgemon

I was away from the mountains for a few years but I'm so glad to be back. I have a plaque on the wall that says 'the mountains are calling and I must go'. That explains it perfectly for me. The house is too large for me so I decided to make the walk-out basement a rental and the upstairs is also available for anyone who needs a full size kitchen and likes to do their own cooking. I want to share what I have been blessed with.

I am a snowbird and live in Florida during the winter months. The best of both worlds.

I am including pictures of the entire house and would rent the top half if it was desired.

Barbara Edgemon purchased this apartment in 2014

Why Barbara Edgemon chose Smoky Mountains

I built this property ten years ago for my youngest son and his wife and decided to buy it when it came up for sale. I love the area and the people. Things move slower and I just love getting back to nature.

The picture is of my granddaughter and I, she wanted to take a selfie.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is located on ten acres and is mostly wooded. Plenty of area to hike and enjoy the quite of the forest. Remote enough that you can't see another house.

We have an abundance of birds and humming birds.

Wonderful Spot for Rest and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a 3 day weekend here for our 5th anniversary in June. We absolutely loved it. The place was spacious with plenty of parking. We were here in the summer time so we didn't take advantage of the fire pit or outdoor gas log fireplace. The view out the basement apartment doors is beautiful. We look forward to returning in the fall sometime so we can enjoy the outdoor amenities. There were three split unit A/C units in the apartment but we didn't end up needing them. There was a great breeze and we enjoyed having the two sets of french doors open. The king size bed and the sofas were comfortable. The internet worked great for netflix and other streaming services (we brought our own device and connected to the wifi for convenience). The kitchenette was perfect for a weekend getaway. My wife had prepared meals and we reheated them in the toaster oven or microwave. The induction stove top burner worked great. The mini-fridge was small but it worked well. We wound up packing the fridge out with our pre-made meals for two people for only three days so if you have more people or are staying longer then you may want to only bring enough cold items for part of your trip. The kitchen was socked with all your basic cooking needs and I feel if we had needed something that wasn't there Barbara would have let us borrow it.

Now, the place is very secluded (which we loved). You are about 15 minutes from the nearest gas station/convenience store and a half hour from restaurants and grocery stores/Walmart. There are several nice picnic areas within a quick driving distance. We especially liked Balsam Lake and enjoyed the trail walk there.

Barbara was very friendly and offered tips on different local activities going on for the weekend we were there. She was accommodating and very easy to work with. She gave us plenty of privacy but I know would have been willing to assist us with any other questions or needs we had.

We felt this was an amazing value for the price and we look forward to returning! If you don't mind being out in the sticks and are looking for some good R&R then this is your place.

AMAZING PLACE!!

  • 5 of 5

I don't know if there are enough words to say about how amazing this home is. Perfect location to see all of the mountains on the east side of the Smokies; secluded and private; beautiful home that had all the comforts of a home away from home; an absolutely wonderful hostess in Ms. Barbara; perfect family location that you could certainly spend the day at without the need to leave; a rental that we will DEFINITELY return to in the future!!

Myself and my three sons 17, 17 and 11 stayed here for a week as a central location to fly fish. Barbara was very, very accommodating. Very clean, very functional, private, we'll kept weber grill for cooking out. The compact kitchen didn't prevent us from eating well...she also provided us a slow cooker. No doubt I will return here every time I want to stay in the area....thank you Barbara!

Perfect Location and Cabin!!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is very clean and well maintained. We visited The Great Smoky Mountains, Cherokee and the Pisgah Forrest on the search for waterfalls that we haven't seen in prior visits. We enjoyed the nice view of the mountains from the back porch and sitting out in the mornings watching the birds eat from the feeders. My husband really enjoyed the secluded cabin and my daughter loved playing pool. Will highly recommend to friends and family!

Beautiful, clean, & comfortable! We loved watching the squirrels and birds, and beautiful mountain view. So enjoyed seeing the water falls & surrounding countryside. Granny's Buffet and the Friday night auction were a big treat. Highly recommend this place and looking forward to our next trip & staying longer.
