Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom with loft close to downtown, skiing & the Grand Canyon.

Our vacation home has been newly furnished and updated while still maintaining it's 1930's charm. The hardwood floors are original and made from local fir and oak. The loft has a luxurious slipper tub to relax in after a long day of skiing at Arizona Snow Bowl or a hike in the Grand Canyon. There is even a view of the San Francisco Peaks from the tub!

If you like to cook, you will find everything you need including a nice gas cooktop stove. There is a bbq in the backyard for charcoal grilling. The backyard is fully fenced and has a hammock available if you would like to hang it from the 2 ancient elm trees. All three beds are 'heavenly' and include memory foam pads, Pima cotton sheets and goose down comforters with duvet covers.

About Matt & Erica

We are one of the happiest couples you will ever meet. We are always planning our next outdoor adventure and rarely spend any time in front of a TV. Our dogs are a major highlight of our lives and we love to take them places. Our favorite country in the world is definitely the Bahamas (outer islands). Our second home in Flagstaff is a real retreat spot for us - we call it the playhouse. It is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Phoenix. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Why Matt & Erica chose Canyon Country & Northeast

This neighborhood is like a classic one you would see in the movies. Tree-lined streets with sidewalks, Victorian and Craftsman architecture. Walk for 3 minutes and you will find yourself on beautiful wooded trails where you can hike for hours. Head the other direction to the quaint downtown square where you will find gourmet restaurants and local pubs (some with live music). No need to worry about a designated driver as you can easily walk back to the house in a few minutes.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Our visit was a respite from Phoenix heat while hiking, mountain biking and enjoying the restaurants and bars of Flagstaff. The location of this cozy home was perfect for all of this. While we used our car to access Humphrey Summit, Weatherford and Sandy Canyon trail heads, and purchase groceries, otherwise it was unnecessary.

Walk or ride either east or west a few blocks and you encounter the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS) which takes you just about everywhere you may want to go. Good, established restaurants such as Josephine's and Brix are a short walk from the home and the cluster of new restaurants and brew pubs in the downtown are an easy walk. If you are headed south of the tracks, bikes come with the home!

During our visit it was warm by Flagstaff standards (low 80s) but the home has such great cross ventilation and large shade trees, we were always comfortable inside. The backyard, while smaller than the pictures, has a great new deck, charcoal bar-b-q, super hammock and a nice grass area for your dog - fully fenced.

As their description reads, the home is fully stocked with all your conveniences. There is no dishwasher or disposal, but that's really not a problem if you are eating out all the time. My wife thought this was the greatest "HomeAway" rental ever! Very "cute" and well done with ironing board, board games, great area relative books, etc. Erica (owner) and Sheryl (housekeeper) were very friendly and helpful. Thank you both.

charming place; great location

  • 5 of 5

My brother and I had a great stay. House was excellent and well stocked for our stay. Great location! walk to town for great restaurants. Great jumping off point for sightseeing. Only limitation is the upstairs loft bathroom - had to do some maneuvering since toilet and tub are under eaves but that would not keep me from coming back again! it may be an impediment for elderly as it is a spiral staircase to get up there. as there is a full bath on the ground floor it is not an issue that should keep anyone from staying there. Owners were very helpful in asking if we needed anything, etc. highly recommend!!

Fantastic Location and Well Maintained

  • 5 of 5

Was up here with the family for a soccer tournament. The location to the parks, trails, fishing pond were perfect for activities. The closeness of downtown for eating out or grabbing groceries was perfect. We will stay again. House is well equipped.

We will be visiting again and hopefully soon!

  • 5 of 5

Oh this place was just perfect for what we were looking for! My son was playing in the state chess tournament held at Flagstaff High School that was just a 5 min walk away. There was a park down the road (again walking distance) that the kids loved to go to. We had my mother-in-law and sister join us and we were all quite comfortable in the space. I can't tell you how nice it was to just be hanging out listening to music, cooking, sitting out in the front yard or swinging in the hammock in back with the dogs running around. Seriously I made sure to do it all. There is a tub in the loft and I'm not much of a bath person anymore but this made me set my alarm earlier in the morning, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a wonderful soak. The host and owner were so nice. At one point I accidentally locked us out and Sheril graciously came over and unlocked the door. We are from Tucson and the summers are hot! We are looking forward to getting out of the heat and coming again!

Perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

I loved this house. It is exactly what we look for when we stay in Flagstaff. The location is perfect; within walking distance of downtown, the library, parks, trails. The house itself has a wonderful combination of the classic charm of historic downtown Flag homes along with modern appliances and features, as well as little touches for vacation travelers -- board games, bikes, a backyard hammock. It's cozy (2 bedrooms) but doesn't feel small because of the high ceilings and all the natural light. Lots of seating and room for kids to spread out...mine loved the loft, of course. It got a little chilly at night when we were there and the heater works GREAT, warming up the whole house in no time at all.

Access to the loft is a narrow spiral staircase. This was not a problem for us, but may be a concern if you have toddlers or mobility issues.

A wonderful stay for us -- highly recommended!

Car: recommended

Most people coming from out of state would drive here, or fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and rent a car for the 2-hour drive north. There is also an airport here in Flagstaff. A rental car is highly recommended especially if you are going to visit the Grand Canyon. If arriving by Amtrak, it is an easy 10-minute walk to our home from the train station.
