Places to Eat:
If you don't feel like cooking, there are 4 restaurants on the island. The closest place to eat is the Eagles Nest located in the Bloody Point Clubhouse. If you feel like an appetizer and a drink, there is a nice bar to watch a game and grab a drink. The most famous place to eat on the island is Marshside Mama's. Just a short golf cart ride away with a menu that charges daily. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is more of a bar, so you may not want to bring young children later in the night. For more of a cook out feel, try the Old Daufuskie Crab Company. With an outdoor bar and picnic tables over looking the water, the Old Daufuskie Crab company is the spot to go. Make sure your golf cart is charged up because it is about 15 min drive. The last spot on the island, the Melrose Beach Club.
Things to Do:
Besides sitting on the beach or by the pool there are many other things to do. A special rate of 2 rounds of golf are included per day for $29 at Bloody Point Resort. This lovely Tom Weiskopf designed course first opened in 1991 and was updated by the Davis Love group in 2011. Bike rentals also are available from Bloody Point.
Horseback riding and deep sea fishing are just of a few other activities available on the island.
The only real way of transportation around the island is a golf cart or bicycle, and for long distances a cart is preferred method. Golf carts are available for rent from several different spot. We have a preferred relationship with Bloody Point Resort with a very attractive rate which we pass onto you. Both 4 seater and 6 seater carts are available and advanced reservations are strongly recommend.
How to get there:
Being an Island, the only way to get to Daufuskie is via a ferry. There are currently 3 different ferry services to get to Daufuskie. The first is public ferry from Hilton Head. This ferry is from Hilton Head to the Freeport Marina on Daufuskie. This ferry is also about an hour long. In addition to the ticket price there also a charge for luggage other than carry ones, you will also need to pay ground transportation to get from the Freeport Marina to Bloody Point. If you plan on this option, your luggage is not likely to be on the same boat as you, it usually arrives later in the day. However a positive about this ferry is that parking in Hilton Head is only $3 a day. The next option is May River Excursions. May river leaves from Blufton and parking is free. May River has a flexible schedule, however the boats are smaller and are not covered. There is additional charge for reasonably sized luggage so this option could make sense for larger size parties. However this boat arrives at public dock and so ground transportation also needed for this option.
Bloody Point Resort operates a semi-private ferry service that we can arrange for you. This ferry departs for the Westin Hotel in Savannah, Ga. This boat arrived directly on the grounds of Bloody Point where you met by the Bloody Point staff and transported to the condo. Parking at the Westin is $10 a day, advanced reservations are required. This ferry will take a reasonable amount of luggage but will not take hard sided coolers. Please note for 2016 bloody point has started charging for luggage, $12.50 per bag, so if you have a lot of luggage the other two might be a better option.
There are very few groceries for sale on the island, so if you plan on cooking in the unit, then you either need to bring your own groceries
We are a professional couple with two great children who have become young adults and have both come to share our great interest in relaxing vacations as being very necessary to take a break from a high-stress career and reconnect with their significant other.
Michael & Nicki Gilboy purchased this condo in 2014
Both as a couple and as a family we have had the opportunity to explore a number of great vacation destinations in the US, the Caribbean, Europe and Hawaii - always asking the question 'Do we like this place enough to want to own here?' Clearly there are places that called us back (e.g., St. Barts), but every location had something that kept us from 'pulling the trigger' such as accessibility, local attitudes, level of infrastructure, level of commercial development or provisions for Emergency medical care. Although no one is going to confuse Daufuskie with St. Barts in January or February we saw Daufuskie as retaining the charm that drew us to different islands 30 or more years ago - with a reasonable chance of retaining it for years to come. We knew that Daufuskie was a location that made sense for us the first time we visited, and continue to feel that way.
We considered a number of properties before moving forward with this one. We wanted (and were able to get): a terrific beach that is very close, fabulous views of the Atlantic from our 4th level (3rd. floor location), a family-friendly 3 bedroom layout in a well-maintained property. Candidly the décor was in serious need of updating when we bought it, and we have worked hard to create a charming, upscale property.
The condo is beautifully decorated - Looks like a oage from Architectural Digest but the views of the ocean are what make this extra special. We loved sitting in the living room or on the balcony and watching the waves. Perfect place to unwind. Also, the owners were very responsive and great to deal with. We will be back!
We have stayed in this condo several times and find it very comfortable and well appointed. Daufuskie is a great "get away" type vacation. The beach is gorgeous and the local restaurants are good and very casual. The condo is clean, spacious and the kitchen is will stocked. Great view from the balcony and the condo even has a stash of movies for a rainy day.
Everything one could want, with all of our expectations met and more.
This island is perfect for anyone looking to get away from the crowd. Planning ahead is a must, especially with groceries. We brought most of our groceries with us, but we needed a few extras mid week. I called the cyber valet service offered on the island one morning and we had our groceries that afternoon. The condo itself is beautiful! My kids loved all the games and movies provided. The owners were excellent at responding to the many questions I had. During our stay I had put the coffee pot in the dishwasher and it broke. I notified the owner, and we had a new coffee pot the next day! We also had an issue with the air-conditioning, and it was fixed the same day. The quick response to these issues impressed me due to the seclusion of the island. When we come back, I would love to stay is this very same condo. It was a perfect vacation for my family!
We highly enjoyed our first stay on Daufuskie! What an amazing view of the beach from the condo. You can even hear the ocean from inside. There is everything you need to help make the trip more enjoyable, books, games,DVDs,and beach equipment. The beach is awesome for walking and seeing dolphins swim. The owners were easy to deal with when booking. We will definitely be back to this island and condo!
Renting this condo was so easy - the place is clean, comfortable, right on the beach and has a pool. What more could you want, except for another week there? :)
Life on Daufuskie can best be described as very relaxing with great beaches, lots of open area, several golf courses, memorable restaurants and minimal traffic (golf carts and bicycles are the best ways to get around). Renters at this unit have access to 2 different pools, well-maintained tennis courts and the Bloody Point Golf course.
